Fishing is not allowed at the hatchery. The pond is part of a waste water treatment for trout waste and is closed to fishing. People are welcome to view the trout and walk the nature trail.

We brought our 4 year old son here to see the trout. It did not disappoint.
The holding pens are massive and are easy to navigate. Be sure to pick up a map of the grounds along with a map of the surrounding Chattahooche.
If you're lucky, the grounds crew may let you feed the fish.

Our grandkids are fishermen, and this is a super place for them. They have MANY, MANY smaller fish to be released, but also have huge breeders that are great fun to see. Feeding time it really good because you can readily see what appears to be millions of hungry fish.

As a hatchery goes, this is a good one. Clean, great short trails for exploring nature with little ones. Staff was friendly. We had hoped to go fishing, but the pond was full of little green pods. Might visit it again during a cooler season.

The fishing pond has been changed to a wildlife viewing area, fishing is no longer a good option. The pond is a Trout waste water settling pond, and is NOT a good place for catching fish.

A great place for kids of all ages to see the wonders of a trout hatchery. From big to small and all sizes in between. Make sure to toss in some of the feed found along the edges of the tanks!

We stopped here as a leg-stretcher/kid-entertaining pit stop on the way to another location. We decided to check it out because admission was free and we had small children. I was going on the recommendation of other reviewers saying their small kids loved it. The location is gorgeous and the weather was perfect in April for an outside visit. You have to drive through a pretty neighborhood to get to the Hatchery. There is a small office and information area as soon as you park. The office staff were very friendly and waved hello as we walked in, but we arrived just at lunch time and they were all leaving. Literally there was no one left in the office! So we had the entire place to ourselves. I was glad I read the information before taking the little ones out to view the hatching corrals. There are electric wires around each of the pools to keep deer and birds out of the waters. I would have been so upset if the little ones had grabbed it without us knowing about the electricity! You would have thought the rangers/office staff would have at least mentioned that on their way past to lunch! We probably spent about 15 to 20 minutes there. We did not go check out the fishing pond since it was duckweed season and it would have been completely covered anyway. The 2 year old enjoyed seeing the fish as did the 5 year old, but the 5 year old was bored after about 10 minutes since there aren't large fish - just fingerlings and small fish. It's a good distraction if you need to get out and stretch your legs but not much more than that.

A place where trout are readied for release into the rivers and streams of N. Georgia. A good place to take a kid (big or little) fishing for the first time in their catch and release pond. Free poles are available. A nice walk through the woods on a marked nature trail gets you to the pond. Guided tours available, check the schedule.

We took our three young grandsons, and they loved it. You can feed the fish and they go wild for the food ( given to us by the attendant).
