The Trembling Earth Trail gives a good view into the swamp. Viewing the local fauna--deer, wild turkeys, woodpeckers was interesting, as was the boat tour.

The cabin was beautiful inside and very well equipped. Ours had two bedrooms, one bath, perfect for two couples.

Excellent park to get away from the hustle and bustle from the big cities. Went camping for the first time in my life with my girlfriend and we had a great experience! Only downside to the park was loud and annoying camp neighbors and screaming kids!

We stayed at Stephen C Foster in one of the cottages. Usually, I camp and the campground is outstanding but we decided to try it this way this time. The cabin was $150/night and is equipped with dishes, linens, cable tv, and enough sleeping space for 8 people if you sleep two to a bed or 4 people if you sleep solo. The star of the show was the screened in porch. Beautiful area with tons of wildlife and very flat roads for biking. We did the 90 minute guided boat tour which was fun. A guy on the boat asked where was the best place to eat around here which made us and the guide laugh since there are no stores or restaurants within an hour of the park. If you come, bring everything you will need, including bug spray. We saw deer, raccoons, a gray fox, a bobcat, and lots of snakes, lizards, frogs, and gators. Everyone was super nice.

We had a great time on our visit to Stephen C Foster State Park. We went in early October, just after a new moon. We weren't able to get a cabin in the main park, so we reserved a cabin that was part of the Eco Lodge in Fargo. The Eco Lodge is still part of the state park (reservations are managed through the park), and it is about a 20 minute drive from the main park entrance. There is not much in Fargo (one gas station, a Dollar General) so if you go, pack well. The cabins at the Eco Lodge had everything we needed in the kitchen, and they were clean so we felt comfortable. Our cabin had a few issues (water pressure was high but coming out in pressure-washing streams so very hard to wash or shower comfortably. we were in an ADA-accessible cabin and the sink and bathroom were accessible. One of the two beds was lower (we were in Cabin #9, EcoLodge) but all the cups and plates are at standard cabinet height, so if you do need ADA accessible, that could be a problem). Some of the doors didn't open or close properly (the linen closet and the door to the porch), but that wasn't a big deal for us. The bigger deal was that we were unable to adjust the AC so we were lucky and brought layers! Our cabin had two beds and those beds had a sheet and a light coverlet. There was one extra blanket. Fortunately we had brought some sleeping bags since we didn't know what to expect and we were glad we had them. If you are going for the Dark Sky experience, for us in October the sun set at 7pm and we arrived in the park by 8pm. The sky was full of stars by 9pm. The gates to the park close at 10pm, and there are two gates to clear before they close, so we were advised to leave by 9:40 to make it out without being locked in. It is VERY dark. But there was plenty of time before that for amazing sky watching. We brought flashlights, but smarter people than us brought red-light lights which were less disruptive to viewing the sky. We also took the park-ranger Swamp Tour, which can be arranged by calling the park office. When we went they opened the reservations one week out. I felt very safe on the boat (it was covered and the ranger was informative and safe. The children wear life vests (adults if they like) and all passengers have a floatation cushion). It rained and we did get wet, so if it looks like rain bring a poncho. I believe there are other Okefenokee tours on the east side of the Okefenokee, but we were very happy with the tour we took through the park. The other side of the park is an hour away.

We camped 3 nights on the first small loop #s 1-26 and loved it. We have a small TT and were glad because many sites are compact. We like to find pull thru sites but all were booked. Once there we were glad we didn't get one because they aren't as they appear (to me) on the map. Pull thru sites (with the exception of a very few on the loops) are mainly on a park ROAD - not really a part of the campsite loops. Just felt isolated and not a part of the real campground to me. You almost need one though if you have a really big rig, bus, etc. unless you're super experienced backing into tight spots. Seemed around half the campers were in tents. Bath facilities were pristine. It was just after a full moon so not the dark dark sky we hoped for (will schedule differently next time) Flying things (bugs, mosquitoes, big things) were out in full force and only get worse as it warms up per the park employees. BTW, ALL staff was super nice and helpful. We did a boat tour with the famous Alex ;-) and were not disappointed. Very knowledgeable and enjoys his job! Also took the scenic boardwalk trail and drove down the Suwanee Sill Road where we saw lots of gators in the canal. Saw a bobcat and a cottonmouth in the park and a gator on the boat ramp - but zero deer or bears. Took our bikes and were soooo glad. It's a great park to ride bikes. The rest you know - its in the middle of nowhere - take all you need. One bar of cell service that came and went (at&t) Trading post/office did have wifi, ice and a few other things. GREAT prices on walking sticks - locally made. We will def back - when it's cooler.

My son and I visited for a day trip. He had previously kayaked the okefenokee swamp over 3 days and had a great time. I wanted to see the swamp as I have never been in this environment before. I booked a boat tour through the state park and it was well worth the drive and the modest cost. We saw so many animals! The area is very well maintained and the people are so nice. The facilities for camping look decent. It’s a very long drive to any sort of town so come prepared.

We stayed a few nights in a cabin; I have a separate review for that.

Call ahead for a reservation for the boat tour. When I called on our way there, they were booking 1.5 weeks out, so we missed that tour.

The park has a small boardwalk trail. Stopping & reading every little sign, it took us about 30 minutes to “hike” the trail. It was great to see how different this side of the swamp was from the east side. Other than that, the main activity for this park is getting on the water.

If you’re traveling with kids, make sure to do the Junior Ranger program. The pin you earn at the end of the program is cute.

We and another couple camped for two nights and had a very good time. Great scenery. Rented a small boat and really enjoyed exploring the swamp and its beauty.
Only small complaint, the camp site was rather small and the campground itself fairly compact. Very close to all neighbors. That said, had a very enjoyable time.

What a beautiful place! We went for the dark sky and were NOT disappointed. It looked like the sky was sugar dusted with stars!

We also rented a canoe and took a guided boat tour with the fantastic Ranger Alex. We saw a river otter, turtles, many birds, including wintering sandhill cranes! A few alligators and so many whitetail deer. I honestly didn't expect to see so many animals in January.

There are several well maintained walking trails and the opportunity to rent kayaks, canoes or jon boats.

We stayed in one of the cottages which was clean and comfortable. This was our second trip here and won't be our last.

Everything was perfect in this beautiful park. When the sign says deer crossing, they mean it. When the sign says bears sighted, they mean it. Plus the birds are glorious. It's part of the National Wildlife Refuge and just about everything is well cared for. There's a boat tour that is just wonderful. Our guide was Josh and he offered us so much information. (There is also a boat tour on the Folkston side of the park. If you can experience both, do it. They are very different and very special.)
