Excellent guided boat tour with a very knowledgeable guide. Boat was comfortable and a good size so that everyone could see and hear. We stopped several times to look at alligators, and to hear how quiet the swamp is as well as to have a chance to see birds and other wildlife.

It's sad to see reviews commenting on the lack of internet/TV stations. This is the middle of the swamp. Don't go here if you need internet and chatting on the phone. Do go here if you enjoy the beauty and solitude of one of America's last great wild places. The cabins were perfect for us. Again, they are not 5-star - this is the middle of the swamp, but way more luxurious than the tent we pitched on one of the island hammocks over 40 years ago. The boat tours were wonderful. IF you can take one of the evening tours, it would be uniquely special. Go and enjoy the wilderness or maybe stay home and enjoy your internet.

Our trip was both relaxing and amazing! This is a certified Dark Sky Park and we were able to see so many stars with and without our telescope. The park staff were amazing and very knowledgeable. The wildlife was everywhere and very photogenic. We took thousands of pictures, fished, relaxed, and had a lot of quality family time. The park offers so much more than we had time for like boat tours and rentals, canoe and kayak rentals, hiking and biking trails, wildlife observation areas and so much more. The park will be closing for renovations and upgrades for just over a year which will only make your experience better.

Nice park with cabins and camping area. I drove in on a weekday and the park wasn’t crowded at all. I saw several species of wildlife - deer, turtles, turkey. I was disappointed to learn the boardwalk is closed and will be for 6 months so it can be replaced. On the way out, I detoured down a side road to the ‘Suwanee sill”. Saw a big alligator at the dam. Definitely worth the drive out.

We stopped here for 3 nights on our way to Florida. This is a small park - only 120 acres, but it's wonderful! We found out on the boat tour that the state of Georgia "rents" the 120 acres for a state park. This is really all the Okefenokee Swamp NWR.
There's a $5 day use fee, even for campers. It's only $5 even if you're staying longer than a day.

There's 3 trails here. All are easy.
They rent boats & canoes. You can fish from shore also.
There's picnic shelters.
The office has a nice gift shop/camp store. You can buy your boat tour tickets there. They're slightly less expensive than the East side of the refuge. The tour was very good. We saw many birds & alligators.

The real gem is the campground.
It's beautiful! Many nice sites that look like camping in the jungle.
Water & electric sites. Some are small - more like tent sites.
Sites - 1-25 seem larger. you could get a bigger rig into them.
Sites 26-58 seemed smaller. Site 39 was very small. tent only.
Sites 59-64 are pull throughs. The rest are back in.
We had site 41 which was plenty big for us. It was also by the bathroom. If you like being close to the facilities, 40/41/42 are the spots to choose. The bathroom/showers are individual units. They were very clean for a state park in the swamp!

It was buggy, even for late April. No seeums & mosquitoes especially at night.

My adult siblings and I took a family trip, spending Sun-Wed nights (April 30-May 4) in two 2-bedroom cottages. This was a perfect time of year to be in the park - the weather was not too hot during the day, cooling down nicely at night. April was probably great, too, and it will get hotter from here on. Mornings were cool, as well - highly conducive to trail-walking. The bugs weren't absent, but they weren't awful. We saw lots of wildlife - deer families, racoons, a bobcat, a fox, alligators, birds of many types, and squirrels. We didn't see snakes - yay! Our advice is to bring groceries and plan on eating all meals at your cottage or campsite. Going anywhere else is just too far, plus there are very few places to go. The cottages are 2/2 houses w/ a screened front porch, a fully-equipped kitchen, and a LR/DR area. They're a bit older than in some other parks we've visited, and I'd give them a 3 on a 5 pt scale, but they're totally adequate. You have direct TV, but no internet or wireless access, except when you go to the park office. There were tables there, and it wasn't a problem to walk up & connect through park Wi-fi when needed. This is a dark sky park, so plan on doing all that during the day, not at night when the office is closed. There are plenty of boats to rent - kayaks, canoes, and small motor boats. There are also guided boat tours. We walked every trail, took that boat tour, and then felt confident enough to rent a motor boat for 4 hours and go on our own adventure the next day, to Billy's Island and 2/3 of the way to Minnie's Island. Going all the way there would've required more like a 6 hour rental, rather than 4. One day, we did drive outside the park to the National Refuge entrance at Folkston, on the east side of the Okefenokee. It's about 20 miles, as the crow flies, but by car, it's much further and takes 1.5 hrs. However, it's totally worth it to walk through the trail to the Chesser Homestead. Everything we did was great fun, and all 4 of us highly recommend this park! We never got bored, and did everything there was to do in 3 full days.

This place is right out of the 90’s! No cell service, no internet, limited tv channels.
The cabin was old and dirty. The bathroom was dirty and old, cabinet doors hanging off, the toilet was so low it was like a kiddie toilet, the dam of the tub was really high and the space in the shower is narrow with no grab bars which made it hard to get in and out of.
The dishes in the cabinet were dirty and arranged by someone who’s never worked in a kitchen… the silverware is in the overhead cabinet, the glassware is next to the stove, the plates and bowls are next to the refrigerator!
The bed (mattress) was soooooo old and uncomfortable!
There was a grill but no picnic table at our cabin to eat outside.
There were no rugs to wipe your feet on.
They didn’t even have any medallions for my walking stick!!
Overall bad experience, will not go back!

Campsites really vary in size but didn’t see any “bad” ones. Whole park is clean, staff is friendly and helpful. Park store is nice but wished they’d offered more in the way of food staples to buy. No WiFi at campsites, only at store, which is actually a plus in my opinion!
We took the boat tour with John Paul. He was the perfect guide. The waterway is beautiful. Saw lots of birds and gators, even tiny babies! Our kids also rented a small motorboat to go explore an island. They loved that. It’s a “dark sky” park which made for great stargazing.
Not much in the way of trails so we mostly hung out at camp in our hammocks or played games. BRING ALL THE FOOD AND SUPPLIES YOU’LL NEED! Town is 30 minutes away and there’s not much there.

We stayed at the campground for 3 nights. This is a very nice campground with spacious and clean bathhouses. If you are looking for a camping trip to get away from the world and explore nature, this is the perfect park for you! We fished, took a boat tour, participated in the stargazing experience, and rented a boat to explore the swamp ourselves. I wished we could've stayed longer, but we will definitely be back. The staff and park rangers are nice and very knowledgeable.

We took the 90 min tour in the afternoon. We chose the afternoon for greater likelihood of seeing alligators. They like to come out in the warm sun.

Boat tours can only be reserved 7 days in advance. Mark your calendar and book the first day reservations open before your desired date. We went on a week day in late Feb (non touristy time) and boat was almost full. I’m told these tours book fast so plan accordingly. Boats only hold 16 people.

We debated between the park guided 16 person boat tour or renting a john boat or kayak for a self guided tour. Hindsight wish we had more time and we would have done BOTH! We didn’t know what to expect with the swamp area so starting with the guided boat tour was best. Wish we’d then had more time to rent a boat or kayak for some exploring on our own.

There are several hiking trails. We walked them all before the boat ride. They are all short and flat. Very easy. Nothing too exciting but quiet and peaceful.

There is nothing else in the area. Be sure to bring your lunch or snacks. The visitor center sells a few over priced items.

I was unable to get cell service in the park with Verizon. The Visitor Center has free wifi that worked well.

Your NATIONAL park annual or lifetime pass works for this state park to cover the daily admission fee. We’ve found very few state parks that do this so that was a plus!
