Me, my husband and my two labs thoroughly enjoyed walking the trail and being transported back in time. The audio that we were able to access with our cell phones was amazing. If you are a history buff, I highly recommend visiting this gem.

A fascinating view of local history and daily life portrayed in buildings handmade or reconstructed by local students under the tutelage of experienced elders. The stories shared here bring to life the way our ancestors lived and survived on this land. A beautiful location off the road to Black Rock Mountain brings a real feel of actual conditions and environment. Local artisans display their talents at weaving, broom making, and blacksmithing. An easy walk through this rural village will inform and enlighten and intrigue. Add this to your list of must do’s when in the Georgia Mountains!

Very interesting and educational activity. Walking is required but not difficult unless disabled. This is how our Appalachian ancestors lived, and many others live today usually by choice. Staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. I'm glad we took the time to visit.

Very good experience for kids to see how mountain folks lived in the 1800's. The craftsmanship of the log cabins is amazing, There are about 23 structures in the "village". The walking trail is hilly.

I had a great time. The young man who was blacksmithing was very knowledgeable and was fun to watch as he worked. The museum was well laid out and was very interesting. Takes you back in time to show a more self reliant living. These are the things our kids need to learn about.

A look back at how things used to be. It's a walking tour and ALL uphill, coming down not so bad!! There are some craftsmen there, blacksmith, and quilters.

If you are a fan of the Foxfire books and even if you have never heard of them- this living history museum is worth visiting. I recommend downloading the app prior to visiting. You can drive pretty close to each of the sites or if you are physically able, you can walk.

One of the best small, working museums for mountain life and lore. This project that started in the 90s with high school studnets, has created a wonderful, realistic setting for life in the mountains bu the early pioneers. The preservation of the cabins and buildings is truly amazing. If you come to the GA mountwins, this is a must to grasp the challenges the settlers faced. It is all outdoors and good, comfortable shoes, suitable for light hiking are a must. If it is warm, bring a bottle of water. Takes about 1 1/2 hours

A friend had recommended Foxfire Museum and so my husband and I decided to visit it. Our GPS could not give adequate directions, but my husband used his phone to find it and direct us to the location. "Museum" to me meant a building with lots of pictures and artifacts. This is an outdoor museum with self-guided walking trails up and then down the mountain. The places visited have descriptions and some of the houses are open for closer inspection. All aspects of learning (visual, auditory, tactile, combination) are used and there is no specific time limit (just until the museum closes for the day). This is a wonderful educational trip and could be visited again and again. However, the trails are rough, so this is not suitable for strollers or walkers, or for those who are physically limited in their walking abilities.
