Not going to lie. I felt sad for the animals. There was an elk that paced the whole time and it look extremely skinny. The badger seemed stressed out, and I just felt sick when I left. I know zoos like this mean well. But it just made me sad. So maybe if you're sensative to animals or are tender hearted, maybe avoid this zoo

We are on a road trip and had hoped to visit this zoo since it was close to where we were staying. It rained shortly after our arrival, and the zoo closes at 4PM so it was too late to visit that day. Since it opens at 9AM, we thought we could visit before going back on the road. But apparently, 9AM is when the first employees arrive. Eventually 2 of them made there way to the ticket booth. And sometime after that, another employee arrived who opened the doors of the booth, but then disappeared. I suspect they might have gotten around to opening at 9:30, but that would not have left us enough time to visit.
Please post your opening time as 9:30 if employees don't arrive until 9, and it takes a while to open.

We enjoyed this zoo, especially knowing before we started that it's a small local zoo focused on rehabilitating local animals, but I could see others not enjoying it.

This entire zoo is outdoors and focused on animals native to Idaho. It takes perhaps 45 minutes to go through in it's entirety, and is built on local terrain so you will need to do some walking up hills! The staff was very friendly and it was great to see so many native animals. The price is also very reasonable and well worth it for a good cause.

As a small local zoo it has a small budget, something which is unfortunately obvious in some exhibits - for example, the black bear exhibit is very small and does not look inviting. Other exhibits, presumably for animals that have individuals or organizations that will sponsor exhibits, have large exhibits well suited for them. It's hard to come down on an organization that is focused on getting hurt/sick animals back into the wild, regardless of whether each one has a perfect exhibit, but if you're bringing kids you might want to be prepared to explain some of the smaller exhibits or more upset looking animals.

I wouldn't say this is a top attraction, but if you like zoos and want to support local conservation while seeing some of the work done for animals, this is a nice place to stop. If you just need a break from being in the car for a bit, this is still worthwhile for the low price - just don't go in expecting the San Diego or Washington DC zoo!

It was a great zoo to take the grandchildren. While it only took an hour to see everything, the kids loved it. Upon seeing the exhibits, there is also a play area with a slide up in a tree-lined deck. Also, the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating.

It was a nice example of a small zoo. All the animals seem to be well cared for...and you need to be in good shape to do some walking.

This zoo is one of twelve in the United States that solely focuses on rescue and rehabilitation for our local wildlife. The entire zoo is built around the natural landscape. I love coming here multiple times a year and seeing the progress and change that this zoo has gone through. Sometimes you will see animals in distress because they are not used to being in an enclosure. And most animals you won't see again because the next time you go, they will have been released back into the wild. I'm excited for the new Wetlands enclosure that they are currently building to make its debut.

It's all local critters of the mountain west. The zoo staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. It's a small town operation that is working on many improvements and additions. All the critters are rescued so the zoo is providing a home for animals that are not suitable for return to the wild. Well worth a visit.

We were told when we entered that the animals there were rescue animals. Some of the areas such as the Grizzly Bear, Elk and Coyote enclosures were very nice and gave the animals a little room to roam. Other animals such as the Black Bears and raccoons were in the old traditional small cages. This is why it is a work in progress, there is much that needs to be done. They have 25 acres and this has the possibility of being a good facility for rescue and rehabilitation of local animals but there is a lot to do. I really went between a 2 and 3 on this one but there is construction going on and I hope next year to see some improvement.

The petting Zoo for children is nice to bring them to as well as the Aquatic center across the street.

Our first problem was determining where the entrance to this so called "ZOO" was. They do not have an entrance, or name sign. I agree with several people's reviews , the animals appeared to be suffering. There was a badger, we learned his name was Mr. Todd, he was spinning in circles in the dirt, burrowing, and screaming. We asked the very young zoo keeper, who looked like she could be a high school student on a summer job, why the badger was screaming, she replied we think its hormonal. There was mountain goat , who couldn't seem to hold his head up. We never found the bobcat, if he was smart he got out of his enclosure and ran away. There was a white fox, who at first we thought was dead, but closer inspection we saw he was breathing, though he looked in distress. There was what they called a water enclosure , but it was just a huge mud puddle , with nothing in it. This zoo was totally uphill, don't waste your money , time or support this zoo. This zoo in my opinion needs to be shut down and the animals moved to proper , more apt place to care for these animals.

All animals and birds are the ones native to NW USA. We spent about 2 hours and did not hurry. Senior discount was appreciated. A few common barnyard animals in petting zoo.
