National Hellenic Museum is really a highlight from my Chicago trip. Big museum - lots to see and learn. Amazing exhibition on current refugee crisis in Europe, and very often overlooked impact on Greece. Great floor with Greek American history. Very much recommended!

The curation could be a lot better at the museum. The special exhibit of a Chicago Greek Artist was good - but the history of Greeks in Chicago and the US could be portrayed much better.

シカゴに滞在中グリークタウンに有るこちらの博物館を訪れました。きれいな施設の博物館で、館内ではゆったりと展示を見ることが出来ました。ギリシャからアメリカへ来た人々の様子などを知ることが出来ました。

Congratulations to the Greek Americans who have created this National Hellenic museum which boasts the largest collection of Greek American artefacts in the world. It gives a great insight as to how life was for all those who were brave and inspirational enough to leave Greece in the late 19th century and early 20th century and make new lives in the U.S. We were lucky enough to see a wonderful exhibition of works by the late George Kokines.
It is small enough to be able to view in less than two hours. Worth a visit.

This museum tells the story of the Greeks coming to America, why and how they came, and what they made of their life here. The photographs and accompanying commentary are insightful, detailed, and often surprising to me. It was delightful and heartwarming to see the connection to Chicago.

The museum also had a retrospective exhibit of Georges Kokines, a superbly talented artist in a number of media, who I'd never heard of. What a lovely surprise that was.

Not too impressed with their limited museum pieces. A lot of text and few pieces. Kind of small. Liked the rooftop. But looked at a lot of construction in the city from there! The people were nice thought.

The National Hellenic Museum is the second oldest American institution displaying & celebrating the cultural contributions of Greeks and Greek-Americans. Earlier known as the Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center, the National Hellenic Museum is located in Chicago’s Greek town, on Halsted Street. I came here to join a workshop organized by organization I belong to. We had our meeting at the ground floor where is the lobby and a small gift shop. Then we were allowed to visit museum on the 2nd and 3rd floor and than on the 4th floor rooftop we had our dinner and networking party. Wow, the rooftop and the view is just spectacular. Although the access to the rooftop is not too convenient (especially when you have a lot of people trying to board one elevator - and the stair case is ending on the 3rd floor and you need to figure out how to find another staircase to the 4th floor).
I was a little bit disappointed by the museum. Not too many displays. I was expecting to get entire history of Greece and Greek immigration to Chicago but instead it was mostly about Greek stones and islands....

My wife and I, along with my daughter and grandchildren (girl 10, boy 6) went to the museum mostly to satisfy the young lady who is into mythology and everything Greek. We were all quite happy with the visit. The traveling exhibit on the main floor was on Chicago as a major candy center and it was nicely done. The second floor presentation of the Aegean archipelago was beautifully staged and captured the wonder of the many islands and their volcanic creation. The Greek emigration displays on the 3rd floor, as well as the fight for Greek independence, were very interesting.
We attended on a Wednesday afternoon and the museum was not crowded which permitted us to flow through at our own pace. The staff was very pleasant and helpful.
Go....you'll enjoy.

We went to the museum to see the Anthony Quinn exhibit. I knew he was an artist in addition to being an actor, but had no idea that he was so prolific in that his art spanned all genres. The works on display showcased each of these genres, including sculpting, painting and free-standing stone works. Each area contained an excellent explanation of his "process." This area of the museum was well done. Now, this part of the museum really impressed me: the geological history of the Greek Islands. The exhibit explained how they were formed and included absolutely gorgeous pictures of the topography, the cities and the people of each island. The third floor showed the history of Greece and its people. This area contained many photographs of the people and cities of Greece, and also contained a history and photos of the Greek people in America -- very interesting. Lastly, go up to the roof where you can see a 360 degree panoramic view of the neighborhood. There is a small gift shop. Well worth a visit.
