I have gone to plays before. However, when I attended The Lyric Opera House I felt like a instant Celebrity. I was seated on the top floor and I was able to see every move each Actor made during the play. I went to see McBeth.

I purchased the best seats for my visit to Chicago from London. It was a 20 year reunion and a combined treat for a friends birthday too. The show I saw was West Side Story. The venue itself was stunning inside. I loved all the art deco/nouveau interior, lighting, fixtures etc. The welcome by lyric front of house staff was excellent and friendly. The seats were expensive but so worth it. The show itself didn’t disappoint. I’ve worked on touring versions of this show myself over the years as well as in London’s West End on other well known musicals. The cast and talent was exceptional. The lighting and sets did not disappoint either and I was so pleased how they executed and performed the original Fosse choreography too. What a joy it was to see this version of the show. This production was well worth seeing. I look forward to returning to Chicago and the LOH again one day in the near future.

The attention to detail in this venue is amazing. It's definitely from another era, when cultural palaces were about opulence, regality and ancient legends. Everything from the intricately designed wall lamps to the stair rails shows the Craftsman's touch.
It's home to the Lyric Opera and the Joffrey Ballet, and experiencing a performance is a must do, where visitor or local.

We came to the Opera House to watch the Nutcracker. This is an iconic landmark in Chicago sitting on South Branch of the Chicago River. For years of seeing the facade from the outside, I have always wanted to see the inside and it did not disappoint. Bring your camera! There are plenty of picture opportunities starting with the entrance.
We sat in the mezzanine level, and you can tell from the approach to their design that they have spent years trying to blend the traditional vs. the contemporary. We purchased tickets to the mezzanine level, and it was interesting because the seats actual individual seats vs. the traditional stadium seating. It was very private as there were only six seats in the "Suites". It was also interesting as there was a double entry system whereby after you enter the first set of doors you can store your jacket/belongings, before you pass through the second set of doors to your seat.
The view from the seats was unobstructed and the theater was beautiful - I am hoping to get a little closer for the next show to really get a feel for the grandness of the theater setting.

The Lyric is beautiful and ornate. As a family we went to see Madam Butterfly, currently playing at the Lyric. The Stage was amazing, it was well thought out. It incorporated the east and the west into the scenery. It is helpful to read the program before the Opera begins, the three Acts have a synopsis so it was easy to follow; especially if you are not familiar with the story line. If you find yourself falling behind, the translation is right above the stage. Don't miss it.

Une merveilleuse salle d'opéra , probablement une des plus belles , actuellement des rafraîchissements la rendent encore plus brillante.
Son acoustique en entonnoir est excellente si bien qu'aux places les meilleur marché , le son y est excellent

My partner and myself visited the Lyric as part of an Open House weekend to marvel at Chicago’s many architectural wonders. I happened to get into conversation with an employee of the Opera House called Paulette. She was wonderfully engaging and knowledgable about the Lyric and about Chicago more generally. Paulette was extremely generous with her time and so courteous with visitors. She is a credit to the Lyric and to Chicago and made me fall even more in love with this wonderful city.

We saw La Boheme and it was magnificent! This was the first opera for us. The Lyric is beautiful on its own and the production was fantastic! Set designs were wonderful and don't worry if you do not understand Italian they have English translations. I would highly recommend this even if it is just a bucket list adventure or a regular date night for you!

For my wife's birthday, I bought box seats to her favorite musical, West Side Story and made reservations for dinner at the Sarah and Peer Pedersen Room. Show was at 7:00, dinner at 5:30. We had plenty of time to eat, drink walk around and see the opera house, which is an amazing building, and be in our seats with plenty of time to spare. Every person that works or volunteers there is very friendly and helpful.
Yes, the meals are catered at the Pederson Room , but 5 star catering! Presentation was second to none! Price was surprisingly inexpensive- $85 for two people! Food was fantastic.
My wife was very pleasantly surprised with this gift. Yahoo, I finally did something right.. HaHa.
If going to a show at this wonderful histric venue, I highly recommend doing dinner at one of the "Rooms" at the Lyric Opera House. They don't just have operas, they also have Broadway musicals and concerts.
I'm definately going to take a tour of the building soon.

Excellent acoustics, superb voice $ dance.
Excellent venue for this American musical tragedy. Scenery was well designed and staged. Second act staging was a surprise.
“Maria’s” vocal range was amazing.
As good as the movie and then some.
