Extremely disappointing! Most trees were uplit from a single spotlight on the ground like you can do in your own yard and many of the “displays” look like they were bought off Amazon.com. Does Not compete with the Arboretum.

Lightscape not worth the price to get in!skip it or head to the Morton Arboretum! It was a waste of $170 for 4 people! Nothing more than walking through a neighborhood!

We were unsure on how to kill time before our fly back home. This botanical garden was an great option. The staff was super nice! We didn’t know what to do with our carry-ons and they stored them for us (at our risk…which is understandable) so we were free to roam around… carved out pumpkins in display, beautiful gardens, colorful trees, nice sceneries. The tickets were a little expensive for out-of-towners which is expected (about $24 per adult) , after seeing the beautiful gardens, I was happy that our money will contribute to keeping up this place .
We also had lunch at the Garden view Cafe, a bit pricey but tasty, it did sound that members would get a discount here.

The Lightscape event for the holidays last year was beautiful and perhaps set my expectations too high for the Night of 1000 Jack-o-lanterns event. While the ticket cost is appropriate for the event, the $25 parking fee is just too much on top of it. It literally is a path of regular carved pumpkins with larger, impressively carved ones every 10-20 feet. The artists on the larger ones do impressive work, but it got old quick. And you walk through the entire thing like a herd of cattle waiting for every Instagram addict to take a photo of each pumpkin. It’s just one long miserable, slow, crowded line. I expected the smaller pumpkins to be incorporated into interesting displays but they were just along the path. Definitely would never attend this one again.

We came here while visiting family. The gardens are huge and there are a lot of different areas to explore. The bonsai exhibit was fascinating, we loved the English Walled Garden, and the train area is a perennial favorite. There is always something new to discover. Well worth a visit!

What an incredible place! Pictures cannot do it justice. We stopped by on our way back from downtown Chicago, when my wife asked if we could see what it looked like just from the outside. But this Garden is irresistible. The people who run the facility are very friendly, the Visitor's Center is gleaming, and the walkways and water views are breathtaking. Of all the places one can visit in this great City, this one is unique and one not to miss!

Beautiful grounds but late August might not be the best time of year to fully appreciate the grounds. Lots of flowers were past their prime but those that were still in bloom were very pretty. The large lake had a few birds on the water. Still an enjoyable 2 hour visit with family.

The Chicago Botanic Garden was truly stunning, and with every step forward, we encountered newer species of flowers and plants. Overall, it felt like a paradise-like meadow.

According to the CBG website, they offer Household & Individual membership options for a 1 or 2 year period, and a "National" membership available to those living more than 75 miles away from the Garden. No senior nor other specialty category discounts are mentioned.

What is there to see at botanical garden in march?
CultureVulture60657
Chicago, IL10 287 bidrag
I wanted to include a link to the CBG's website but TA won't allow me to. You can Google it. In the dropdown menu, look for "Plan Your Visit". and then you'll also see "What's in Bloom". Know that they update this only every 2 weeks, so it's a little behind what you might actually be able to see.

Are there indoor exhibits during the winter and early spring months?
CultureVulture60657
Chicago, IL10 287 bidrag
Due to COVID-19, all indoor exhibits are off-limits. No idea what things will be like in the coming winter or spring. In normal times, there are greenhouses and buildings to visit, year round. Check the Botanic Garden website for up-to-date information..

We will be passing through town on Sunday Aug 1, with our small pop-up travel trailer. Does the botanical gardens allow trailer parking, and if so is there an increased fee? I see some posts that say you can walk in from nearby hotel parking, would that be a better option?

Lake Forest, IL673 bidrag
I do not remember ever seeing a trailer or camper in their parking lot, including two visits in the past week. Since attendance is limited now using timed admissions, the parking lots are not very full. So perhaps they would allow campers now even if they do not normally. You can call member services and ask, as they are very service oriented and would try to be helpful. I would have a Plan B, such as shuttle service from nearby hotel.
Email communication from them might be your safest bet, as if you get a "yes" you can show that at the entry gate along with your timed entry ticket.
The Botanic is worth the hassle, was there yesterday and It is in full bloom
Can you use your library card for entrance to the Garden?
Eryn L
Chicago, IL92 bidrag
Garden is closed right now. But, generally: Admission is “free”... you can walk/bike in. The cost is the parking. I don’t think a library card will work.

Has the Orchid Show been extremely crowded? To the point where it is hard to take pictures?

Even before Covid 19, the Garden planned to limit crowd size at the Orchid Show.
Tickets are sold by date and time slot. Sales close when a particular time slot is filled to capacity. The times are on the hour, from 10:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. The exhibition closes at 4:00.
There is one late night left (March 19) from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. It's called "Orchids After Hours".

We will be in Chicago the end of the week and I'd like to see the Botanic Gardens for the Fall colors. How long can we expect to be there? We were also going to try and drive to Milwaukee River front as well in same day which is less than an hour away.
Thank you

You could easily spend an entire afternoon or morning there. The Garden is spacious, it has different gardens laid out in different areas. I have been there twice, for about 2 hours each, and we focused on several gardens each time. We could have spent more time there, exploring all the areas. It really depends on whether you want to stop and absorb all the beauty of each area, or just kind of cruise through for an overall impression. I'm more of a "stop and smell the roses" kind of gal. You might want to study the layout in advance of your visit, to decide what you want to focus on. Hope this helps!

There are both bus and train options to get to the Garden. You can search the internet for transportation options to the garden from the city. As suggested earlier, The Gardens will have suggestions.
