I went in June 2022, on a Thursday. I took the “L” to the Braeside station and walked. The garden is lovely and many flowers were in bloom when I was there. The café had nice options. I did a free tour and the two guides were a joy. There are several places where you can sit and reflect and I like that in a garden.

This place is amazing. So beautiful, we'll laid out and organized. My wife and I went (fiance then) and spent all day there. Tons of things to see. Themed areas. Go!

I visited on a Sunday in late May with my son and two year old granddaughter. My son and his family are members and they visit often - this was my first visit. So I was not paying attention to prices, parking etc.
I loved it! The place is beautiful and large. We arrived during the early entry time for members and it was noncrowded. I enjoyed the mix of plants, whimsical art, and water features. The model railroad area was great too! Definitely something for everyone.
Next time I would love to ride the tram, visit the gift shop and cafe.

Be sure to review their admission requirements and COSTS. They now charge a PARKING FEE for every vehicle PLUS a separate ENTRY FEE for EACH VISITOR. The cost varies by date and by your residence (less expensive for Cook Cty residents). This is a huge change from the previous system of charging one fee for a full carload.
Additionally, they are under construction and made it a bit more challenging for anyone with ambulatory challenges or using a walker or wheel chair.

Plan a visit to The Botanic Garden's ORCHID SHOW UNTAMED. For non-Members, purchase your tickets for the day and time you want to visit online. Members are welcome anytime.
The show is simply a stunning, aromatic, colorful display of all types and varieties of ORCHIDS. It's a short walk to the Regenstein Center where the show is hosted. Two of the green houses are adorned with beautiful displays of Orchids and natural wood objects which are intertwined with the ongoing exhibits of Cacti.
Hurry! The exhibit ends March 27th, 2022.

Even in deep winter the orchid show was a magical botanic experience. We also did a brisk walk around some of the paths. I wish there had been more inside, but what we saw was lovely.

This is an extremely calming place, especially if you arrive early or go on a weekday.
Stroll around to each of the specialty areas, like edible fruits and vegetables (see what well-tended lettuce, peppers, and more look like in late summer!), the walled English garden, Japanese garden, sensory garden.
In the summers, they have beer gardens. In autumn, stunning color. In winter, the light and orchid shows. There is also a cafe and gift shop in the welcome area.
A few times that I've been there very early, I've seen amazing wildlife: deer, heron, frogs.
It's not too far outside Chicago and easily accessible by public transit too (take the 213 bus from Howard station or check for the nearest stop North of Howard).
It used to be free but this year (2022) they started charging admission fees and are members-only before 10 AM. There are free days and it's cheaper if you book in advance. If you're coming from out of town or have other garden memberships, see if they offer reciprocal admission privileges with Chicago Botanic Garden.
It seems to draw a lot of people from various different cultural backgrounds. You'll hear different languages spoken around the grounds and the like. I don't see many people who look like me there, but I've never personally felt unwelcome.
Go and enjoy some quality nature time.

When we arrived there was no signage telling us where the front entrance was. Considering we have never been here before we had no idea where to go and there was no one directing us either. The event was great, we loved the walk through light display. We will definitely come back. Also on the way to the parking lot again there was no one there to direct you to the parking lots and the parking lot signs were dimly lit.

This is one of the most well tended Botanical Gardens. Beautiful from every path, walkway, whether a wild garden, fountains, ponds, fruit orchards, statutes, it's a location for strolling and reconnecting to nature. The team taking care of the Chicago Botanical Gardens do a wonderful job creating unique and diverse gardens. Add it to your visit to Chicago. It's a great place to spend a day.

What is there to see at botanical garden in march?

I wanted to include a link to the CBG's website but TA won't allow me to. You can Google it. In the dropdown menu, look for "Plan Your Visit". and then you'll also see "What's in Bloom". Know that they update this only every 2 weeks, so it's a little behind what you might actually be able to see.

Are there indoor exhibits during the winter and early spring months?
CultureVulture60657
Chicago, IL8 665 bidrag
Due to COVID-19, all indoor exhibits are off-limits. No idea what things will be like in the coming winter or spring. In normal times, there are greenhouses and buildings to visit, year round. Check the Botanic Garden website for up-to-date information..

We will be passing through town on Sunday Aug 1, with our small pop-up travel trailer. Does the botanical gardens allow trailer parking, and if so is there an increased fee? I see some posts that say you can walk in from nearby hotel parking, would that be a better option?

I do not remember ever seeing a trailer or camper in their parking lot, including two visits in the past week. Since attendance is limited now using timed admissions, the parking lots are not very full. So perhaps they would allow campers now even if they do not normally. You can call member services and ask, as they are very service oriented and would try to be helpful. I would have a Plan B, such as shuttle service from nearby hotel.
Email communication from them might be your safest bet, as if you get a "yes" you can show that at the entry gate along with your timed entry ticket.
The Botanic is worth the hassle, was there yesterday and It is in full bloom
Can you use your library card for entrance to the Garden?

Chicago, IL92 bidrag
Garden is closed right now. But, generally: Admission is “free”... you can walk/bike in. The cost is the parking. I don’t think a library card will work.

Has the Orchid Show been extremely crowded? To the point where it is hard to take pictures?

Even before Covid 19, the Garden planned to limit crowd size at the Orchid Show.
Tickets are sold by date and time slot. Sales close when a particular time slot is filled to capacity. The times are on the hour, from 10:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. The exhibition closes at 4:00.
There is one late night left (March 19) from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. It's called "Orchids After Hours".

We will be in Chicago the end of the week and I'd like to see the Botanic Gardens for the Fall colors. How long can we expect to be there? We were also going to try and drive to Milwaukee River front as well in same day which is less than an hour away.
Thank you

You could easily spend an entire afternoon or morning there. The Garden is spacious, it has different gardens laid out in different areas. I have been there twice, for about 2 hours each, and we focused on several gardens each time. We could have spent more time there, exploring all the areas. It really depends on whether you want to stop and absorb all the beauty of each area, or just kind of cruise through for an overall impression. I'm more of a "stop and smell the roses" kind of gal. You might want to study the layout in advance of your visit, to decide what you want to focus on. Hope this helps!
How much is membership fee
Ellen B
Hortonville, WI582 bidrag
If you live > 75 miles away, the fee is $72/year. A family membership is available for $135.

There are both bus and train options to get to the Garden. You can search the internet for transportation options to the garden from the city. As suggested earlier, The Gardens will have suggestions.

The Chicago Botanic Garden is not free. However if you are a member of another museum or botanic garden, they have reciprocal arrangement so you can get in free. That covers parking. Tram rides are a separate price.
