Estate was lovely if grounds a little unkempt.
House was very interesting, volunteers knowledgeable.
Young man in shop let us out a side door to relieve our tired legs - hope he did well in his exams.
Coffee Shop at entrance not great, very little choice & slight unkempt.

We’re glad you enjoyed your visit and found our volunteers and shop staff helpful. The grounds have changed in recent times for a number of reasons, partly because we’re still getting back on track after covid, partly because we are making major changes to the walled garden area, and partly due to a deliberate policy to allow some parts of the grounds to be less manicured and grow more naturally.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THIS PLACE?
[Tuesday 21st June 2022] - This was our first visit after three years and we were really looking forward to it however, we were amazed and deeply saddened as to how Blickling Hall Estate (National Trusts Norfolk Flagship) has gone down – Firstly we could not find any staff so we decided not to wait and set off for the gardens however, we did not feel comfortable with this so went back and a young man appeared – there were very few people about which was really unusual - As we walked round many things were shut, the Temple, The Orangery and some of the garden areas which were having maintenance work done on them, which we understand need doing but this just added to the downhill spiral.
We walked over to the Walled Garden and within seconds we could see it was untidy and virtually nothing in it – If we had not been members and had paid £28 we would have insisted on a refund.
We decided not to go round the house as we did not want any more disappointment and drove on to Fellbrigg – So glad we did it the Walled Garden was WONDERFUL and the property was packed full of people – They must have known this is now the place to go.

Wonderful gardens, as usual. Well done to gardeners. Great for photos. Pleasant cafe staff and good food. Steady lake walk, suitable for some with limited mobility. Disabled parking not well/at all? signposted. It's a long way from car park so worth finding it behind cafe. Outstanding bookshop with very pleasant staff. One star off for not being dog-friendly in the main garden. I am a solo traveller with 2 dogs and had to rush round the gardens in, literally, 8 minutes with my camera, whilst worrying all the time about the safety of my dogs in the car. This isn't ideal and will stop me visiting so often. Surely dogs can be allowed in gardens nowadays? I think this will stop some people from visiting at all, especially people on their own.

If you're looking for an interesting and enjoyable trip for all the family, then Blickling might not fit the bill. Like many NT properties at present: no children's trails in or out of the house. It's like they don't want to inspire the next generation of conservationists. We came back after a 6 year absence but it's a lot emptier than we remembered it. Staff were friendly enough but I'm not surprised they were short and couldn't open more rooms as a result. Shop stocks the usual items you can buy anywhere else and there wasn't really anything happening for the jubilee (2 days after we visited)- just a few items under glass and a notice asking for memories of the last coronation which was mostly said ”i didn't exist". I guess they don't get the message. There was a play on for kids, but our kids both have ADHD and don't cope well with sitting still, quiet and focussed for very long. Seconds actually.

We’re sorry that you visited at a time when there were no children’s trails; we do arrange them as often as we can. As you say, there was a play for children when you came, though we appreciate it might not be suitable for all. It is worth checking the website in advance of your visit to see when there are suitable activities available.

The visit to the estate was very enjoyable with the exception of the cafe. The cafe staff were fine, so this comment is most definitely not relevant to them in any way.
Tea for two, a scone with clotted cream/jam and a pretty average gluten free brownie (the only gluten free item available) cost £11. That's not an insignificant amount, but you have a choice - buy it or don't buy it.
What you don't have a choice about is the miniscule portion of milk supplied. Apparently it's an attempt to reduce waste but I see it as making Scrooge, before the visits by the Christmas Spirits, look generous. You've paid and the milk is yours to do with as you wish. Having to queue again to get more milk, while your tea cools down, is not conducive to an enjoyable visit.
We are National Trust members and have regularly used the onsite cafes but we will be taking a flask in the future.
I suspect the National Trust will give a wishy washy response to this review citing waste and green etc etc. I'm afraid that doesn't hold water - it's purely and simply maximising profit in the name of green. I emphasise again that you've paid and rationing the milk is totally unacceptable.

Thank you for your feedback on your visit; we will pass your concerns to our food and beverage team. It’s a pity that your otherwise enjoyable visit here was made less enjoyable by the small amount of milk you were given. The reason the jugs are small really is to reduce waste. Please do ask for extra milk with your tea if you visit the café again; our staff will be more than happy to provide it.

Visited this wonderful place today. Stunning grounds, weather was glorious and I loved the deckchairs to relax and enjoy the view of the house and lake.
The staff were so helpful, in particular Clara and Connor who are a credit to the NT. Thank you

Similar to a previous reviewer, I am also let down by The National Trust’s claim to being ‘dog friendly’. It definitely isn’t - you can’t go anywhere near the house or any of the gardens. Being allowed to walk around the outside of the estate just doesn’t count in my book. I don’t care about the cafe, where you can spend more money in an attempt to ease your unwelcome. I’ll never understand why dogs are not welcomed in all outside areas (I was not expecting to be able to go inside the house). Highly disappointed and wasted journey.

Grand and impressive stately home, feel really privileged to be able to access it. A vast estate to explore too.

Had a lovely day out. Blickling Hall and gardens are well worth a visit. Staff are very knowledgable and helpful. Had a good coffee break and later a nice lunch. I found the book library was so well stocked and couldn’t resist buying.

Yes, but it’s free for National Trust members ( you need to scan your membership card at the ticket machine, I think )

How much is the entrance fee to get inside? Thanks

Hi.
As it is a National Trust property, it would be best to check their site. There are different prices for different areas and people. The house was lovely, but the weather was poor so I didn't see much of the grounds.

Hi. Are dogs allowed?

You can walk dogs in the park but not in the house or gardens. The park is great for dogs but I think they have to be kept on leads due to livestock. There are lots of long walks around the park and lake. There is a dog friendly cafe near the car park, although I think you have to sit in the rear room if you have a dog... lots of dogs and their walkers enjoy Blickling estate.

As you can see from other replies there is a lot of uncertainty about breakfasts at Blickling. I think this is because it is seasonal and the opening times change. I would suggest giving them a call 01263 738030 - hope this helps.

Is there an event to mark the anniversary of Anne Boleyns execution? We came down a few years ago for an evening of ghost stories and it was superb.
