I had many bad experience wanting to spend two and a half days in the park to see elephants and gorillas.
I don´t know where to begin...
Maybe with this: it is impossible to go gorilla tracking unless you have a written authorisation by the WWF (???), which only researcher or politically important people receive. I got told that after having already spent a night and a day in the park, where it was impossible to get that paper. Of course the WWF guide new about this, but didn´t tell me before.
The road from Kribi to Campo was in a very bad state because of the rain washing deep crevasses into the road, bridges bein in very poor condition, flooddings,... So already the trip to Campo village took forever and was very unpleasant.

You have to register at the park office, before entering. The costs to enter the park in July 2018 were as follows:
daily fee per person: 5000 CFA
per camera (no matter how simple): 2000 CFA
WWF guide (which they said was compulsary) per day: 5000 CFA

You need to bring your own transport. To hire a motorbike (with driver) from Campo Village costed 10'000 a day plus food.
You also have to provide transportation for the WWF guide - (they charged another 10'000 a day for his bike). All the motorbikes they should have at the park office for guides where broken.
The roads / paths have been from ok to terrible. Not just that the rain does it´s damage - they are very badly maintained so that the plants are over-growing it and you might get twigs lashing in your face, slide in mud,...
I can NOT recommend entering the park on motorbikes during the rain season (June - November). If by car you would need a sturdy 4 x 4. (about 50'000 CFA per day)
Due to recent elephant poaching, the elephants have moved further into the forest and are quite aggressive towards humans. A local village chef said, if he´d see an elephant now, he would run away as quickly as he could.
Well, we didn´t see any - as we didn´t enter the forest deep enough. You´d have to go with tents and off any tracks.
I could go on and on (about the park manager, that held us up for 2.5h, before we could enter, the WWF guide first arriving with a flat tyre on the motorbike that needed fixing (3h), then not knowing his way around the beaten tracks, the second camp (gorilla camp) where we wanted to stay, which was deserted, so that we had to break in (well the WWF guide did the breaking in), were left with nothing to eat - apart from a few biscuits I luckily had on me-, no fire, no light,...)

In short I paid about 130'000 (just under 200 Euros) to see a few monkeys up in the tree tops, to see "La grotte Picatharte" (impressive rocks in the middle of trees where the Picatharte bird will nest) and "Musée de l'arbre" ( an old tree with very big roots), drink some water out of a liana, elephant dung and traces (flatened paches) and lots of green. None of it impressive enough though to go through a lot of troubles.
It meant travelling on motorbikes in very bad conditions, getting bitten by hunderds of ants, that run up your legs into your underwear within seconds, falling into a hole in the ground where there used to be a bridge (void is overgrown now, thus invisible) sleeping in the simplest camps (with own sleeping bag, no sanitary infrastructure etc), not eating much and having a lot of stress due to incapable guides, bad preparation and very bad infrastructure.

I really can NOT recommend going there, maybe unless you are part of an experienced tourism enterprise, that has it´s own guides, means of transportations etc. It seemed impossible to organise a decent experience in situ. It was a waste of money, a waste of time and most of all a very unpleasant time.

If you do go: be prepared for the worst. Bring along more food, then what you think you need (you might have to feed other people with it too...), bring along a good fire lighter, a good torch, etc - even if your plan is to stay in a camp with these things provided.

We came to Campo village in the afternoon, the day before. We payed for visas and for guide. The forest guard told us to be ready next day at 5h30 a.m. so we were. From Campo village to Campo Ma'an Park is about 40 km of low quality road, The way took about 2 hours. At full day there is no possibility to see any animal. We saw the excrements of bison and antelope, really amazing (sic!). In addition, forest guard and local guide knew very well at the beginning of our visit that they show us nothing - unfortunately, in our group was a guy who understood their dialect. Very sweet, isn't it? So, the conclusion is: if you want to go to the park, you have to know you should be at 6.00 a.m. the latest at the gate to the park because the animals will go to drink the water early morning. Or late afternoon. Forget to see the elephants, monkeys only. You have to know it is much better to pay for a guide after the trip, not before, maybe he will be more motivated. You can ask also in WWF Cameroun in Campo village. Maybe the program manager will help you. Maybe. We didn't have such a chance. This is a long, long way to attract the tourists to Campo... As to me, it was my first and my last visit there. I am disappointed and I feel diddled. I traveled 7 000 km to see the animal dung...

hochpreisigen Individualtourismus geeignet - schlechte Infrastruktur, hohe Kosten, dafür
wenig geboten, schlechte finanzielle Infrastruktur, d.h. keine Kreditkarten, keine Pauschal
Angebote, also also viel Bargeld mitnehmen und jeden einzeln zahlen.

Unique because of the type of animals this parc shelters. You will see seaside, forest and experience sleeping in a wild but safe environment

Situated extremely south of Cameroon, along the border with the Equatorial Guinea, and lined on the West by the Atlantic Ocean, the national park of Campo-Ma'an and its peripheral zone cover a surface about 700.000 hectares . It was created in 2000 following the Summit of Yaoundé on the protection of the forests of Central Africa. It shelters numerous species of animals threatened as the elephant, the gorilla, the mandrill or the chimpanzee, as well as plants which we find nowhere else. The price rate of visit of the park is 5.000 FCFA a day and for a lonely person and 2.000 FCFA by vehicle and a day, support(accompaniment) of a local guide and a forest warden: 10.000 FCFA a day.

Campo Ma'an National Park is in easy reach for most travelers via the Kribi to Campo road (75 km of passable dirt road). The area hold beautiful beaches with nesting sea turtles (Ebodje, Nov-March) and the National Park is a huge expanse of tropical rainforest; the southern edge flat and beautifully situated on the Ntem River and in the Northern sector there are mountains of over 1000m. The park hold an extremely varied wildlife, with sizeable populations of éléphants; gorillas and chimpanzees. The birdlife includes many interesting species too. The proximity of the National Park to beautiful beaches makes for an enticing combination.
Please note that spotting animals in a forest is challenging and particularly so for shy animals such as gorillas and elephants. Visiting the park can be done by walking with a guide (its hot and vegetation is dense) or via boats on the Ntem river. You should get in the park as early as possible and you need to pay for your entry fee and a guide at the Park Headquarters in Campo town. There are a number of basic hostels in Campo and having your own car/motorbike is recommended. Going here should be about discovering a quiet and beautiful area where you can explore both tropical forests and beaches.
