Enjoyed a lovely walk through Middlewood Way yesterday. This is a place I would definitely recommend everyone to visit. There were lots of runners, cyclists and generally everyone is really friendly. A place definitely not to miss!

Have come to the Middlewood Trail for many years as a walker , runner, cyclist .
Never ceases to amaze me .
Mainly start walks from Nelson Pit , Higher Poynton .
As good facilities Car Park and toilets .
With Cafe nearby on Macclesfield canal .
Lots of circular walks out and back around the canal also .
And including Bollington .

Many access points. You can do a long linear walk along this old railway line or you can mix it with perhaps a return route along the adjacent canal. The canal is usually adjacent by a short walk of less than quarter of a mile.
The only thing that breaks the peace is that cyclists and walkers seem to share the same two lanes. Horses don't tend to knock you over as you can hear them making a fairly slow approach and you also know which path they are on. But impatient cyclists race past you on both lanes as if you somehow knew they were there.

Being an old railway line gradients imperceptible. Old platforms provide rest stops. Surface very good. Option of joining canal. If starting at Rose Hill station Marple ( not the other station) parking available. Could use trail to end then return via canal. In normal times pub en route. Bailey's Trading post has drinks, ice creams, some supplies.

This is a great place to cycle, walk, run or ride a horse. Plenty of space for everyone and lots of access points. Nice and flat too.

A Sunday or any day really and being out in the open air with miles and miles of track to go along is a pleasant way to spend a number of hours getting healthier and feeling better about yourself. The dog walkers, horse riders and runners are equally respectful of users and there are no annoying motor bike users as well. The way connects marple and Macclesfield with plenty of on/of spots as well. Instead of a lazy Sunday resting, why not use the day and time for something better. We did and we will again

That is if you choose your time to explore this lovely linear walk along the old Marple to Macclesfield Railway. This year is the 150 anniversary of the original opening of the line (02-08-1869) and as I am no longer living the area what better time to revisit. It is to the credit of both Stockport & Macclesfield Councils that walkers, cyclists and horse riders can enjoy a trip along here.
It is easy to visit at various point, not just at the start or end. Obviously the main starting point is Rose Hill Station where you can see the line there is the terminus for the present line. There is car parking there also. Another good place to join is at Middlewood itself where you can catch any Buxton train from Manchester or Stockport and alight at the “old” Middlewood Lower Station. This enables you to walk either way thus shortening the walk! Lots of vegetation and water filled gullies as befits a railway line, together with numerous bird and insect life. Boards at most of the old stations are very handy with information and historical facts. Also you can leave the track at most halts and find a good old country pub for refreshments. Highly recommended.

Nice walk along the old railway line, good information boards to bring education of times past and places to stop and get refreshments or take a rest along the way.

Not a bad walk, although not particularly scenic compared to other similar paths. However never really got away from people, loads of bikes whizzing past and gormless “nothing to do all day” women walking dogs seemingly everywhere, even on the rural sections. Viaduct at Bollington is nice, and a bit of railway interest in places such as Higher Poynton disused station. But unless you like hearing bing every 30 seconds and having dogs sniffing round you, don’t bother.
