I love how scenic and full of life this trail is. So many options with where to start, where to go, and whether to jog, cycle, walk, ride on a scooter you name it.

Watch out for tree roots lifting the ground in parts between the brickworks and findon.

West beach parkrun takes you partway up the linear path on a Saturday morning

The River Torrens is the most significant river of the Adelaide Plains. The River Torrens was selected as the site of South Australia's capital in 1836. The Torrens runs for 85 km (58 miles) from its source in the Adelaide Hills to the sea, The River Torrens is not a large river, but South Australians are proud of it,

I took the 13 km walk along the River Torrens from Henley Beach South into Adelaide. It begins with the sea views at the river mouth where pelican statues overlook the area from tall wooden posts then quickly becomes rural. For this section it appears to be commonly used for horse agistment and so there are wire fences between the path and the actual river. This gives way again to more natural well-treed bushland with access to the river but housing is often quite close by and sometimes the path runs next to them too. At Hindmarsh there is an old cemetery and the area becomes industrial before entering the reserve area between North Adelaide and Adelaide itself where you can view the Torrens River Weir Gate before getting to the Adelaide Convention Centre and central Adelaide.

The path is flat and well signposted with distances between bridges being clearly set out. There are a number of reserves and playgrounds, some with toilet facilities, and community efforts have planted red gums along the river. There were no river side cafes I could find in this section, though one could diverge at Brickworks and perhaps eat there. I had a short stop at the snack bar near Par 3 at the North Adelaide Golf Course which was almost at the end but, by then, one could then eat in Adelaide itself. Of course, the linear trail continues onwards for another 17 km from Adelaide up to the Adelaide Hills but that is for another time - and I think I would start in the Hills and walk down.

What a better way to start a morning than a walk along part of the River Torrens Linear Park - I didn't do the 30kms, but 3kms. Even so there was plenty to look at, even passed a wild bee BNB nestled in a tree trunk (pic attached) The trial I walked was fairly flat. Great way to get out side and be immersed in Australian wildlife - you might even see a Rakali (Australias other amphibian mammal)

Excellent parks along the way with lovely gardens and great statues. Great running trail for your morning run, we ran past Angas and Grundy Gardens and kept on going, can’t believe this lovely trail is in the CBD. It even looks spectacular at night!

Great easy to ride bike track with changing scenery along the way. Lots of beautiful spots to stop and have a rest or coffee or ice cream, fun for individuals, couples families and groups.

This review is for Adelaide CBD from the Botanic Gardens, to the hills-end of the trail at Athelstone. It was great on a hot day as a lot of it was under shady trees. 36km return, took us about 3hrs. We're two middle-agers, and I'm not a seasoned cyclist, but we managed the trail well. On the way to the hills it's gradually but gently uphill, plus flat on some parts. On the return it's mostly downhill/ample freewheeling. We parked in a large carpark, free on Sundays, on Botanic Rd outside the Botanic Gardens (see pics) then cycled north past pines to join the trail. For the first few km the trail wasn't as well signed as later, and we ended up on sidestreets a few times by mistake - advice is, stick to trails close to the river on that bit, and cycle on the south sude if the river which seemed better signed. Nowhere to stop for coffee/food on the trail at all between Zoo & Athelstone, you'd need to peel off onto side streets for a few kms to get to something, except at Wayville (Grind). But plenty of shady picnic spots, so take some snacks or sandwiches. Just a couple of public toilets on the trail, and one at the end, but that was enough. If you do any of this with kids, there are some playgrounds.

Day 1 we rode from Adelaide CBD to Henley Beach 35km return. We started at Lounders Boatshed Cafe for the morning coffee and then headed west. The ride was easy, on a cylce path the whole way to Henley Beach. We rode along the beach cycle path and had lunch at the beach. Day 2 we rode from Adelaide CBD to Paradise interchange 26kms return. I was pleasantly surprised how picturesque the ride was. Beautiful grasslands surrounded the River Torrens as it wound its way along the cycle path. We had breakfast at Local Grind Cafe in Walkerville which was adjacent to the cycle path.
