This is the best day trip, in my opinion from Reykjavik. Definitely more impressive than the golden circle. You can do a variety of different things like drive through lava fields that feel like a different planet. Of course a visit to the Kirkjufell Mountain is a must do. You can also see basalt columns, a volcanic crater and end your visit by some beaches as well.

Returning from Grundafjordur you will drive along the wonderful Snaefellness peninsula. There is the possibility before turning the corner of the peninsula to climb left towards the Jules Verne glacier 😀. Exactly snaefelljokull. It's a not difficult F-road that climbs between green hills with a breathtaking view especially on a day with optimal visibility, but I think also a little cloudy makes its effect. However you arrive by car at the foot of the ice, not under the offshoot of the tongue of the glacier as happens in Iceland, but you have the feeling of flying and being in the presence of a King. Without much effort we had a nice non-planner experience in Advance, but we flew the drone in a fantastic flight. Thank you Iceland

A national park that surrounds the western and southern tip of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Massive lava fields cover the ground, some with moss some exposed. Fantastical scenery.

If you only have one day to explore Iceland’s geological wonders, go here and tour the peninsula.
Towering basalt cliffs, multi-coloured mountain slopes, and various ocean attractions. Take your time and turn off the road frequently.
Visitor Centre about 20 km from Borgarnes is staffed by an enthusiastic and charming young woman who gave us a map with ten things not to miss. Great advice.
Go all the way to Styklissholmur(?).
Watch out for the cruise ship crowds in their tour buses (really, I was surprised to see a huge ship in a tiny village harbour).
Stop for coffee and goodies too.

We visited the Snæfellsjikull national park on a road trip around the Snæfellsnes peninsula and we couldn't be more glad that we did. I've heard so many people say they've "visited" Iceland by getting a shuttle to and from the Blue Lagoon while staying in Reykjavik but have no idea of the wonders places like the Snæfellsjikull national park have to offer.
The beauty of this park is that it really shows a small scale of what Iceland has to offer, mountains, waterfalls, volcanos and glaciers - how could you want any more?
It is very easy to spend the day in the area, stopping at each of the sights and making the point to spend time and soak it all in. I would highly recommend to give yourself a day to do it, anything less than that and you would likely feel rushed and possibly miss something you'd have loved to seen

We spent 4 days in this area, it is really fantastic, you can spot whales high in the mountains, along the coast, a trip to puffin rock, black beaches and nice little fishing villages.

Far west of Iceland, very remote, lighthouse at tip of peninsula has big colonies of guillemots and razorbills and other birds. A long drive from nearest town though!

We drove from Stykkishólmur around the western peninsula back to Reykjavik on a rainy day. Views of the mountain weren't great because of this, but everything along the coast was gorgeous. There are plenty of places to stop and take in the landscape. Services are few and far between (gas, etc.) so plan ahead.

Has anyone hiked to the top of the volcano? Can you tell me about how long it took, how hard it was, etc
Skrevet 29. august 2018
We have small kids. Can we drive close enough to see the volcano? We don't want to go home and not having seen "a real volcano" :-)

olá, tem como ir no parque por conta propria, sem contratar tour? dificil achar as informações certas

Is Songhellir - the Singing Cave part of the South coast tour?

Hello! Is there a certain time visitors must leave the park?
Skrevet 20. juli 2017
This isn't like an american park. It's more "protected land". There's no gates or borders. It's like entering a state or city limits parts are curated but others are just land.

Does the road around the Snaefellsjokull pennisula require 4WD? Will be driving the first week in September. Traveling from Budir off Ring Road to Olasvik.
Skrevet 4. juli 2017
No- it's a regular highway like the ring road. There's a road up to the Snaefellsjokul glacier that would require a 4wd. All smaller roads off the main highway were fine with our 2wd.

Ciao,
il tour sul ghiacciaio l'avete prenotato prima?
vale davvero la pena il giro? perchè costa 260 € per due persone.
Noi abbiamo un 4x; é possibile farne un pezzo da soli? è fattibile o bisogna essere molto esperti?
Grazie mille a tutti

I plan on visiting Snaefellsjokull National Park roughly mid-November 2016 and may be driving in with a front-wheel driving car. Reasonably speaking, which parts of the park will I not be able to access with the car (and walking)?
Also, is there any gear I should consider bringing in November aside from the usual suspects (warm clothing, extra socks, etc.) and is there anything I should bring in particular if I want to go on the glacier?
