Have been coming here since it opened around 1985. Great place to visit especially if you are interested in local history. Took the farmhouse tour. It was so pretty and decorated for Christmas. Have been on this tour many many times over the years, but it is always different. You learn something new each time. Dennis was a great tour guide. Watch the Conservationist for current activities throughout the year. Since the weather was so mild, we walked all around the farm and visited with the cows, chickens, turkey, and sheep. Bring your kids. They will love it. And...it's free.

When I lived in Wheaton and Glen Ellyn in the late 1960s and early 1970s, for whatever reason, I never took advantage of the many sight-seeing opportunities available to me in the western suburbs. Now that I live on the Gold Coast in downtown Chicago, I take advantage of every opportunity. Like Kline Creek Farm in West Chicago. It's like taking a step back in time, exploring and experiencing what life was like on a Du Page County farm in the 1890s. Located at 1N600 Country Farm Road, in the Timber Ridge Forest Preserve, it represents 19th century farm activities, such as baking, canning, planting, harvesting, sheep shearing, quilting, spring cleaning and ice cutting, even beekeeping, through programs designed for individuals, families and groups. Visitors are encouraged to begin their tour at the Timber Ridge Visitor Center, which offers exhibits of the 1890s and the agricultural heritage of Du Page County. Then stroll through restored farmstead structures and meet the historically costumed interpreters who explain the living history of the farm using tools and techniques of the past. The farmhouse was the center of domestic activities and today contains original artifacts and reproductions that enhance its homelike atmosphere. Interestingly, beekeeping is a longstanding tradition at Klein Creek Farm, dating to 1984. In fact, the sale of honey at the Visitor Center helps to support farm programs and operations. The farm is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Monday.

Kline Creek Farm is a living history museum property of the Forest Preserve district of DuPage county. The farm interprets to farming in this area during the 1890’s through demonstrations of sheep and dairy farming, keeping chickens, plowing with Percheron horses, and adapting to the seasons. In the winter you can observe the ice harvest followed by maple sugaring, and the birth of the new lambs. In late spring the fields are prepared for planting corn, the vegetable garden goes in, and there is often cooking or baking taking place in the farmhouse kitchen on the antique wood burning stove. Visitors can help with egg collection every day at 9:30 a.m. and tours of the house are given on the hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The house is decorated according to the seasons as well as activities on the farm following seasonal activities. In the summer there is a day camp program where participants can learn hands on about what children did in the 1890’s. There are holiday celebrations reminiscent of olden times. Staff and volunteers dress in period clothing to give a really authentic experience.
The farm is open on Thursday through Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm., with special Thursday evening activities in the summer months. There are morning story hours and afternoon chores activities in the summer months for kids to participate in. Check the farm’s Facebook page for updates on what’s going on at the farm.

Great to see a slice of farm life from a bygone era. We enjoyed seeing all the animals and bee hives. Good place to ride your bike to via the p path or great western trail but you can’t ride through the farm itself.

There may be some disagreement as to whether Kline Creek Farm is located in West Chicago or Winfield in DuPage County. But everybody agrees that the 200-acre property that lies on County Farm Road within the larger Timber Ridge Forest Preserve has served as a testament to how life was like for the early settlers. For decades, it has been a cultural attraction and has been described by the West Chicago Chamber of Commerce as a "living history farm" with an original farmhouse and buildings from the late 1800s and authentic re-creations and historical activities that paint a picture as to what life was like for families on many DuPage County farms. Re-enactors dressed in period clothing engage with visitors by providing demonstrations with farm animals and old-time farm implements and telling stories about the history of farming in DuPage County.

Farmhouse and buildings from the late 1800's. Beautiful, peaceful setting. There is supposed to be a tour of the farmhouse on the hour. There is a sign on the front door of the house to wait for "the bell" to let you know the tour is starting. We waited until 10 minutes past the hour with no bell and so then just walked in. I guess the guide was not in the mood to give a tour but since we had to "force" our way in, we went on a tour which was very good. Weird but good.
