It is a great place to get exercise, all while been within the picturesque Dandenong Ranges surrounded by Ferns, Gum Trees, and other Plants/Trees while hiking to the top of One Tree Hill which is a good place for a picnic, and its nice to enjoy the serenity of being within Nature while going for a hike. Also you can check out all the plaques and Boards along the way about all the solders who fought for our country, so I recommend checking the place out.

My wife and I walked up this trail during our recent holiday in Mount Dandenong where we stayed overnight in a luxurious holiday cottage.
The weather was cool and it was easy walking the trail. The views were scenic. We will visit again sometime in future.

A great track that reopened several months ago. Usually always busy esp on weekends so try and come off peak. There are toilets, picnic spots, playgrounds and also a cafe at the bottom here.
When I come here I pick between 3 tracks - this kokoda 1000 steps, the lyrebird track or the belview track. The 1000 steps is quicker but is really lovely with rainforest, mixture of steps and sloped walk - it's supposed to be 1 way but ya know people lol. The belview track which you access from the side of the carpark that leads around the back and up is my favourite. Has steep parts but is the most scenic and u can catch lotsa wallabies and roos and birds🤗 and lyrebird track in my opinion is the steepest of all 3 and a bit of a slog - i do this when i really wanna feel like im putting in work haha.
All 3 lead up to the top where u can walk over to some toilets and picnic spots. No real lookout over the mountain from what i can tell.

The walk up is one-way and is somewhat strenuous, but there are rest stops along the way. There are drinking fountains at the end of the trail, but I would advise to bring a bottle of water that you can drink on your way up the trail. Good hiking boots/shoes are advised. There are no trash cans along the trail or at the top, so you will need to carry out your trash. You can use public transportation to get to the Komodo trail. We used a combination of trains and buses to get to the 1000 steps trail. Bus 688 from Fern Gully station has a bus stop at the entrance. The trail is open as we visited today, March 27, 2023.

I have walked this trail many many times but every time I am still in awe of all the nature around me, it is a lovely walk and always worth it if you are in the area and in need of some fresh air and some space to stretch your legs.

We came here for hiking but due to closure of some of the hiking place, we went for the lyrebird track instead of Kokoda track 1000 steps memorial walk. It was drizzling and we hiked up under the rain. Fresh air and heard lyrebird welcoming us with their lovely voice! A memorable hike for 750m distance before giving up! Great work up…!

Well set up. I got there around 7am and the car park was packed.. not yet full but I was surprised. Quite a strenuous walk and everyone seemed to be in a hurry going up haha but it was really nice to see people of all ages and sizes going up! I went a tad further to one tree hill then looped back down via lyrebird track which is not as steep but definitely longer. Lots of places to sit and rest or read memorial plaques along the way. Cafe at the bottom and some bbq spots which is nice. Toilets at both ends too.

I love the 1000 steps memorial track so much I do it at least once a week, for my own health and fitness.
Due to restrictions it is suggested on the track that you only go up the steps and then use the fitness track on your way down, (you can also use the fitness track to go up).
Make sure you wear comfortable shoes like runners or hiking boots. Bring plenty of water, there are two tap spots, one down the bottom and one up the top.
It’s suggested that the walk to the top will take about 40-45 minutes. But really it all depends on your fitness. There are dedicated resting spots, equiped with small benches and a map of the Kokoda track with some detailed information on it which is always worth a read.
I recommend doing the track during the weekdays as there is more parking available at the track and less people walking, but if you choose to walk on the weekend, keep in mind of tour groups, larger families and extra parking around the corner as the normal car park will be full.
Most importantly, just have fun! You’ll feel so accomplished once you’ve completed the walk.

Kokoda 1000 steps is a place for enjoying nature with family/ friends while burning your calories. Must come in the early morning, or you can’t get a parking spot.
There’s a cafe and playground too.
