All of the park signs were taken down and the park road was gated, yet NFLD Parks listed the park as open?!?
It is a reasonable walk in from the main road though. The Heritage trail and the Governor's Staircase and the cobblestone beach was well worth the confusion though. Absolutely gorgeous!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay at Blow me Down Provincial Park. The park is quiet, the comfort station is clean, and the beach in the Park is breathtaking. There is a 3KM trail in the park (James Cook Heritage Trail) that leads out to Lark Harbour Head; a stunning panoramic view of the Bay of Islands. You can find the trailhead easily by the sign, but don’t miss the Governor’s Stairs (which also links up with the trail) located on the beach to the left. The stairs are built in the rock. It is quite amazing.

To enjoy the sunset, we drove through Lark Harbour to Bottle Cove. There is a short boardwalk to a point of land that gives a spectacular view of the ocean and the sun setting on the horizon.

Great Hiking, beautiful views, and no one around. This place is off-the-beaten-path and worth the stop for the views alone. The Governors staircase was totally unexpected and is a great addition to the park.

Also the place was covid conscious while checking in and with the spacing of the few visitors there were at campsites.

This is a nice enough park - fairly basic, but handy to Gros Morne National Park, and with adequate facilities. But the drive in from the so-called highway is a nightmare. The road in is a crappy secondary road with lots of potholes, wash-board asphalt, torturous turns, and very few places to pull over, or pass. It is not a place for a big rig to be travelling. The driver will not have time to enjoy the scenery enroute, but any passengers might well enjoy beautiful vistas of sea and sky. There are other choices for the visitor to Gros Morne, that would be easier on the nerves to get there.

Well worth the $10 cost. Pack a lunch, hike the trail (amazing view of Lark Harbour) at the top, then head down the Governor's Staircase, other beautiful view. Have lunch on the beach, picnic tables to sit at. Just enjoy a beautiful and peaceful day.

We used this site to hike the Governors staircase and tortoise mountain. The hike was moderate as far as the lookout but then became more strenuous in parts. Apparently the Provincial Park only maintain it as far as the lookout. That explains why some sections of the trail further on are a bit precarious.

This is a Provincial Park with some camping spots, and there is a $10 fee per car for access to the day-use area, but the hiking trail to your left at the beach is very nice. Initially, there is quite a climb (lots of stairs), and you will see signs for the "Governor's Staircase" but leave that journey for the way back down. Stick to the stairs going up and after a short while you will reach the viewing station at the top. Wonderful views. From there, the hiking trail is reasonably flat and you can go a long way out toward the point (about 3km). This is quite a nice trail, and not many people go past the viewing station (we only ran into one other person out there). It is an out-and-back trail, so you don't have to go out the full 3km if you don't want to. On the way back down, branch to the left when you reach the sign for the "Governor's Staircase" and you will continue down to a wonderful surprise descending the staircase under overhanging rocks to emerge on the beach. If the tide is low, I think you could probably hike to the left on the beach, but we were there at high tide and just walked to the end of the beach on the right side. The parking lot is just above the beach, so you can easily head back to your car from there. Aside from the initial climb to the viewing station, the trail is not particularly difficult, and is 6km max if you decide to hike out to the end of the point, but you can cut it shorter at any point.

Pay $10 for the car's admission, drive as far as the trail goes (the beach) and park.

Then on the beach go to your left - toward the imposing and seemingly impassible rock. Tucked inside the first of 427 steps to the lookout. mind your head on the first forty steps - thereafter the going is easier, and after 427 steps, what a view.

Blow Me Down is located about 58 km off the Trans Canada Hwy., and you drive back the same way you came in on Route 450. The road is windy but there are some beautiful views en route; unfortunately, there aren't many spots where you can pull over to take photos. The park has 28 unserviced sites (2 loops - sites 1-18 and sites 19-28) and we liked that the sites were quite wooded. Each site had a blue box and a garbage can. The comfort station was very clean; there were also outdoor privies available. The laundry facilities had 2 washers and 2 dryers. No cell reception at this park.

We stopped here for some to hang on the beach and the more adventurous to walk out to the point - a fairly tough walk when 25 degrees.

Beach lovely with its of skimming stones and sand dollars for those willing to brave the cold water
