This museum on the Qld/NSW border is well worth the drive. I never realised the huge importance the Wallangarra Railway Station was to the economy and the effective processing of troops during both WWI and WWII. The way passengers and goods were transferred over because of the different railway gauges between the two states was unbelievably cumbersome when compared to today's standards.

I used to drive trucks between Sydney and Brisbane during 'the recession we had to have' to keep us afloat. I would come through in the late afternoon or early morning and never noticed the railway station. Once, my father came with me on a trip and he mentioned he embarked from here on a troop train, sitting in his truck on the back of rolling stock, bound for Sydney. That was almost 30 years ago and I no longer drive trucks interstate, but recently my partner and I were in Wallangarra so we went to the railway museum and in the display of historic events of the station is a photo of WWII army trucks on rail stock. There is reference to the 1919 Spanish Flu pandemic border closure which is quite relevant with today's Covid19 pandemic. This museum is well thought out with informative displays in the original railway building. We'll go again!

The station is well taken care of and the museum is worth a look, if you want to stretch your legs after a long drive.

This may be small museum but full of great info....and tales being related between elder and youngin' of happenings whilst line in service. This line marks the state borders of NSW and Queensland along with associated history. No trains to see generally, but steam trains or diesel run on special days. I think this place is a gem.
And costs nothing - but - I'd certainly enjoy the great cafe on the platform whilst you're here.

We just happened to be there on a day a steam train was there and what a treat! The museum is small but interesting. We had lunch in the cafe and the food wasn’t great but ok.

As train buffs we visited on a day the steam train came. Although small, the museum is of high quality and packed with information. We learnt lots. But the best thing was to see the steam train turn up. It was great.

Great coffee and slice on the border between Queensland and NSW. Quite a historic old railway site with a nice cafe and museum.

When you visit the Wallangarra Café for an excellent meal, also visit the Railway Museum which is also on the platform. So much history of the Rail system and well presented. Worth it to take the time for a look into this history. Nominal donation.

Called in when passing through and will return for some of the steam train trips. Amazing history of two states trying to work together with differing railway gauges.Great little museum showing the significance of the station - unused since 1997. Many times we have just motored through but now we will always make this cute little place a stop-off on our travels...
