This battle happened early in the Civil War and lead to KY not siding with the Confederate States, so it was fairly significant although it was relatively small in casualties and time of battle. There is a large parking area with several signs to describe the events that took place before, during, and after, along with a replica statue of Abraham Lincoln. There is a walking trail, which is easy for anyone to take, with a few signs along the route.
I am a Civil War buff, so had to go. If you are not into Civil War history is it worth the drive to the middle of nowhere? Probably not, but if in the area definitely worth stopping by.

Good place to do a quick walk. They have two trails union, unpaved, and confederate, paved trail. Several plaques telling you about it, although they are in need of some love.

We too were a bit disappointed, as we thought this area would be part of the National Parks or Historic Park. Someone seems to be doing some upkeep with a newly paved parking lot, but no facilities. Some of the informational signs were hard to get to or sun-faded. The informational maps were a bit hard to understand how the battle went day to day. There is a logbook that visitors can sign.

Loved visiting the battlefield but disappointed with the grounds and not being well kept. Grass is overgrown and can’t get to several of the placards.

This is a good sized park, preserving the main area and approaches to the Middle Creek Civil War battlefield. Only a small portion around the dirt parking lot is open to visitors. There are two short non accessible dirt and grass trails through the union and confederate lines and a couple of sign boards describing the battle. However, there is no visitor center, no cannons for photo ops or services or shelter of any kind so it looks much the same as it did 150 years ago when the two sides were chasing each other around the region and were drawn into a pitched battle at this now peaceful site. It was more of a skermish with a fairly low body count but was strategically important in that it secured control of southern Kentucky for the Union. The winning commander was James Garfield, one of three Civil War officers from Ohio who later also served as president (Grant, Hayes). Garfield was also one of four presidents to fall to an assassin's bullet (Lincoln, McKinley, Kennedy). His home and his tomb can be visited in Cleveland. Either site has more to do than this earlier point in his career. Civil War buffs will be enthralled but the rest of the family might just stay in the car.

This was a favorite of the group I traveled with. We learned a lot that no one was aware of and the gentleman that told the story of the battle made you feel like you were there when it happened.

If it's called a National Battlefield I expect it to be a part of the National Park Service, but it's not. It was misleading since I haven't heard of any new National Parks in Kentucky. Outside of that it's OK. Not alot of space here, but if you use your imagination you can get a feel of what it was like in the Civil War.

The battlefield holds events throughout the year and they are all worth attending. The battle re-enactments are fascinating.

The is the site of a Civil War battle. There were Kentuckians on both sides. It is a site where you pull off the road and read the signs documenting the battle and the soldiers that fought there. There is a short walking path (1/10 mile) with an additional informational sign or two. This is a 20 minute pull over sight, but very interesting,
