Very nice spot for a hike quite close to NYC.

Probably buggy in the summer because of pond and marsh.

Someone else complained about getting a parking ticket. The legal parking is fairly limited. We were lucky to get one of the last spots but many people took their chances parking in places marked no parking and didn't get tickets the day we hiked.

I have been hiking here for 15 years and it has always been a great place to spend some time outdoors. Unfortunately, my most recent trip ended with a parking ticket by Westchester County, due to 25 new "NO PARKING" signs which were recently installed and not present just a month prior - A great cash grab for Westchester County especially since COVID quarantine has forced people to spend more time outdoors.

I hiked the Red Trail. This was my first visit. Though marked "easy," this trail had moments of appropriate challenge for me. I am in decent shape and 58 years old. Highlights:
* well-marked red signs on trees
* peaceful once you get further in
* very shady and nice
* not that buggy the day I went
* easy parking in lot though getting crowded by 10:30am on a Sunday
* one-way signs RE COVID -- the vast majority were clear (with one exception where many trail converged, had a moment of significant confusion -- they need more one way signs at this intersection of trails)
* other hikers showed respect 100% and everyone masked up while passing/waiting for one another
* most people followed the one way COVID signs -- those who did not, I am pretty sure they just couldn't handle the hike and had to turn around or maybe they got turned around at the confusing intersection of trails where no one way signs were posted
* wooden boards over muddy areas much appreciated -- though 1-2 need maintenance (wiggly in mud)

NOTE: This hike is not appropriate for a struggling hiker due to loose wooden boards; steep short inclines at times; rough footing at times

This was a REALLY GREAT HIKE for someone like me!

Cranberry Lake Preserve is a beautiful get-away spot for city dwellers young and old. It is only about a 15-minute drive from downtown White Plains, yet it offers so much in terms of natural beauty that you will wonder why you don't come here every week. My son has been doing just that since he was about 5 years old (and, at age 30, he enjoys it even more). If you fancy a walk/hike/picnic, seek a refuge from city-dwelling, or just want to commune with nature, this place will not disappoint! If it is your first time visiting, I recommend that you call the visitor's center (914-428-1005) or check online for tips and guidelines (no dogs, no fishing). Print out (or pick up) a trail map, wear sneakers and bring water. Be prepared to relax, unwind and enjoy (and fall in love with nature all over again)!

For those of you who get the reference in my title, hiking at the Preserve is like the scene when the band is in the basement of the arena, looking for the stage door. They get directions from a worker, proceed to round several corners while chiming, "Rock 'n Roll", after which they end up back at the same worker who gave them directions. My friends and I went around in the same circle, numerous times in numerous places. The signage isn't the greatest. There were no maps available there so I'd suggest you print it out or have it on your phone. As for the hike, it's a nice place to walk around. There are some ruins and a quarry from the time the Kensico Dam was built. There is also some nice vegetation. There is a pond and a lake you can walk around. The address was funky on my GPS but if you follow Old Orchard Road, you'll come to the entrance.

This is a local nature preserve with several miles of walking trails through several habitat types. There is a visitor center and good parking and you can visit year round. The map is easily printable from the Westchester Parks website. I go here all the time in all 4 seasons and I love it. It has become more popular lately, please carry out all trash you bring with you.

Really enjoy hiking here. Different trails, with mildly rugged terrain (lots of natural tree roots, little bridges) and the quarry is great. Kids love climbing on the rocks.

Marshy ground the day we went. It was great that the park had provided small little board walks in the areas it gets soggy.
Check out Cranberry Lake and the South Pond and the Bird Observation Tower over looking the Pond.
We followed the Blue Path which at one point it got a little confusing. We stopped on the big bolder took a picture and didn't realize the blue path continued behind us. We did a little back tracking and found our way.
After the bird observation tower the area had flooded and we couldn't make it through so we just followed the path in reverse to the Lodge.
I wish the ground cover wasn't so over grown so you would get a better view of the lake and the pond. The lodge is closed on weekend and we did not find a bathroom facility.

First at all, editors please correct this issue. People can get in other place wrongly. The address is right, except the state.
Anyway, this place is great for families, small kids, teenagers or adults. The trails are quite easy to hike. Just follow the signs around the trees. I did with my family of five, my kids walked not big deal. Take water, i did not see any water fountain around.
