The park is great for a short stay. Staff were wonderful. Great access to attractions & events. Only complaint is the WiFi (pretty much worthless).

This is a really great campsite. The staff are real friendly and helpful. The facilities are real clean for the campers. They have firepits, water, showers, bathrooms, and you can even do laundry.

We spent a week in the campground. The first night there, we had a storm. It knocked down several trees. No one ever came around to clean up the debris from the storm. There are several people living there. The park campground is in need of repairs. Some sites are sinking and very unleveled. It was pretty empty so I’m sure last minute reservations are easy. It’s about a 30 minute drive to New Orleans.

Hard to believe there's nature this close to a big city. There are about 100 level paved campsites with electric and water hookups. There's also a dump station on your way out. Children playgrounds and laundry are available. This is a fantastic alternative at low rates to the name brand campgrounds. If you want to visit Nola and save some money you can't do better than $50 for 4 nights.

We stayed at the campground. It was quiet at night but noisy during the day because of the airstream boats passing close by in the bayous. We had the visit of a black eagle and great heron. Showers at the facility were either cold or freezing … There is a laundry at the facility as well. It is close to garden district or French quarter (around 25 minutes)

German cockroaches are everywhere! They are in the grass, Under each deck at everyone's site, Literally everywhere! We have never had one in our RV and I did spot 2 of them. Now we have to do a deep cleaning and put bombs off everywhere in there.
We went to pull out and my husband took the wheelchocks and they were loaded with them. You can see them crawling in the grass. The swimming pools are both closed. We felt bad for the guy checking everyone in because he was alone and overwhelmed but he did a great job.

We are on a Coast2Coast adventure- so staying at various parks, hotels& Air B&Bs. When researching places to stay, this park was recommended. We were very intrigued that it offered cabins in - yes “in” the canal. We checked in on a Sunday for two nights. Rate is cheaper Sun-Thurs. $150 per night/ $175 on weekends. Retired military also gets discount. This park is about 20 minutes to The French Quarter & Bourbon St. The cabin was wonderful- 2 bedrooms, one with 2 sets of bunk beds , one with very comfortable queen bed. Pots, pans, full kitchen, living room & dinning area. But the best part was a big screen porch. It had a picnic table. We were glad we brought our folding chairs. Lots & lots of gators that came right up to the porch. Obviously someone was feeding them!! (Very bad) the deck around the cabin had a grill, place to clean fish and place to moor/dock a boat. We enjoyed sitting on the porch at night watching the boats go by. The cabin does move a little when big boats go by and create a big wake. All and all great place & would love to have stayed longer.

Taking into account our family's size, this was a great option for an affordable, safe place to stay on a trip to New Orleans. With taxes and fees, our three night (thurs-sun) stay came in at $555. Good luck finding a place that sleeps 8 for anything even remotely close to that in New Orleans.
We found the accommodations to be adequate. Everything except the floor was clean upon arrival. All linens and towels are provided, as well as basic cooking equipment (coffee maker, cookie sheet, pots/pans, toaster, knives, plates, cups, etc.). There is a full sized fridge (with ice maker), oven, dishwasher, and microwave. There is even a small TV in the main living area.
The best part is all the alligators!!! My kids were absolutely mesmerized by the alligators that circled our cabin. Not being from LA, we were hoping to see maybe one or two alligators during our stay, but from the minute we walked the bridge to the cabin there were multiple alligators present almost constantly. I imagine they have learned to wait around the cabins because of all the fishing, fish cleaning, and fish filleting that goes on at the cabins. The ladies fishing next to us didn't seem to find the alligators quite as pleasant as we did ;)
The queen bed and bunk beds were comfortable enough. My poor boys who had to sleep on the pull out couch, though. ROUGH. By the last night they were debating sleeping on the hard floor.
Speaking of the floor, it was filthy. You could not visibly see any dirt, but we all had black bottomed feet after walking on it barefoot. Guests are expected to sweep the floor before checking out, and this may be happening, but I can tell you it had probably been weeks since that floor had seen a mop.
The bayou is beautiful. It was lovely to sit outside on the screened in porch and watch the boats go by. We initially booked cabin #1, but when we arrived there was something wrong with it and they had changed the reservation to cabin #13. Honestly, there isn't much of a difference between them. No cabin is too close to it's neighbor, so I really don't think you can go wrong.
It was about 25 minutes to the French Quarter. One day we drove and parked at the Algiers ferry terminal (20 min drive - free street parking) and took the ferry across. The state park feels remote and deep in nature when you're in it, but it's actually right off a main highway with all the conveniences close by. Excellent!
Here's the thing: this is not a hotel, it's a state park. If it were just me and my husband, I would not think it was worth it to spend $185 a night to stay here. For the remainder of our trip we stayed in airbnbs for a similar nightly cost that were vastly nicer, more comfortable, and didn't make us sweep the entire house before we left. But for 8 people, 20 minutes from New Orleans, the price simply could not be beat. We enjoyed our experience and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again on a return trip to the area.
A couple of helpful notes:
1. The office closes at 5pm on weekdays. We called in advance to let them know we would be later than that and they told us the key would be in the cabin for us and we could check in in the morning. This turned out not to be the case and I nearly had a panic attack thinking about finding another place to stay that night and losing all the food we had in coolers in our car. We caught a lucky break and it worked out in the end, but my advice would be not to chance it - when they say they close at 5pm, they mean it. Be sure to check in BEFORE closing.
2. There is a coffee maker but not coffee filters.
3. One dishwasher pod is provided. Bring extra dish soap.
4. There was no soap in the bathroom. Bring your own just in case.
5. The prior guests may or may not have used the pans to cook the fish they caught, and may or may not have soaked the adequately afterwards. Err on the safe side, wash the pans before using.
6. Bring a sponge.
7. The knives are blunt enough to be a safety hazard. Bring your own if you plan on cutting a watermelon (or something).
8. A swiffer mop is not a bad idea.

I had such an amazing time! This was my 1st time fishing and I truly enjoyed myself. I did not catch any fish but I still enjoyed my time fishing. The cabins were very nice and comfortable. The whole area was very peaceful the entire time that we were there. The office staff was friendly at the time of checking in and checking out. They were very detailed about everything we needed to know about the cabins. One of my favorite things was, the cabins are on the water. The water was so beautiful. I was able to see the sunset and the sunrise. There are even alligators around but as long as you don't bother them, they won't bother you. There are also a lot of little flying bugs around but keep in mind you are by the water so that comes along with it. I no longer want to stay in a hotel with come to Louisiana. I will be staying in a cabin at Bayou Segnette State Park.

Went to this park to attend a family gathering. However upon arrival there was no information regarding entrance fee nor any signs designating pavilion area.Bayou.Bridges(3) are in serious need of repair due to cracked & warped boards, erosion of road leading up to & from bridge.Otherwise, the park is beautiful, serene with abundant wildlife.

Are there canoes or kayaks available for campers to rent?
Also, two questions about leaving our vehicle at the ferry parking area and taking ferry across to the FQ.
1. Is this a safe place to leave a vehicle (vandalism/theft)
2. Is this ferry parking lot a safe place if we are returning from FQ after dark?

Is there a Catholic mass said at the parks site?
Skrevet 26. mai 2017
No. If you have a vehicle there are several Catholic Churches nearby, St. Bonaventure and Assumption of Mary, both in Avondale and Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Westwego.

Hi all, I am considering going to this camp site around august (although I am still hesitating based on the 90+ weather) and I would love to read anone information on it.
- How much can I expect to pay by night (as students it is our biggest concern)?
- Would it be realistic to ride by bike to New Orleans or should we opt for public transportations or even rent a car?
-Do you know, for comparison sake, any other camp sites within realistic distance from New Orleans (let's say max 45 mins by car from downtown)?
-Any other tips?
Thank you all for your time.

I forgot to mention we intent to be camping in tents and not in any RV or lodgings, unless the conditions would be too unbearable by your opinions (we are accustomed to moist heat camping but we are from canada, so not that damp aha).
Skrevet 16. mars 2017
We are thinking of going tent camping in the spring and wondering if the sites are spaced far enough apart from other sites and have trees surrounding the sites. Also what type of hiking trails are there?
Skrevet 8. januar 2017
Is there any mass transit from the park to the French Quarter?
Skrevet 5. januar 2017
There is a ferry that runs from near the park to the French Qtr. They will tell you about it when you check in if you ask.

While camping at Bayou Segnette State Park, we drove down to the Barataria Preserve which has a parking area and a pretty decent nature trail that goes into the swamp. There is no charge for this access.
