Very interesting place. I went to ride the two-foot guage train, but there is much more to do. The train is pulled by an anthracite coal burning steam engine built in Germany in 1934 for industrial use. The coaches are either restored or built to original specifications. The ride is about 30 minutes with a stop at an antique car museum. The museum contains Ford model A's and T's along with vintage Packard's, Chevrolets, Cadillacs, Rolls Royce's, Mustang's and several other types of cars. Next to the car museum is a building containing an operating model train layout based on railroads that operated in Maine. There are also several 2 foot gauge train cars present that are covered awaiting restoration. Another nearby building contains a museum that provides the history and artifacts of the six former Maine two-foot gauge railroads.
The area also contains several restored buildings depicting stores, offices and firehouses from small towns in early 1900 rural maine.

We have passed by for so many years and SO GLAD we spent the time there
this past Sept. We are an older couple but it brought the child out in us !
This is not to be missed in between harbor cruises and downtown Boothbay.
Have some simple fun…it’s great !
The engineer and conductor are wonderful people and willing to share all of their many years of experience . We are train people and the smells…coal..the hooot of the engine and the bell. So great. The ride is short , however you stop and hop off visiting a fantastic antique car and truck museum…and a huge model trains set up that was terrific and multi layered. Gift shop as well. History abounds and the old village buildings, one room schoolhouse and more are great fun. It is not a lot of walking and all ages would enjoy the simpler days..the sounds..the people..and afterwards enjoy a well stocked antiques building with lots of things from the same era. Thanks again to the engineer who was so personable and full of info. Cheers!

I can give no cost as it was included in our trip cost.
There was a lot to see mostly related to railroads. A major find if you are into old cars. A fantastic collection!

Doesn't seem like much till you walk around and ride the train. Awesome, huge model railroad that took 20 years to build. Must see. Classic car museum was awesome too. LOT's of vehicles. Inexpensive too.

The last minute decision was the best one of the day! Our goal was a train ride for grandkids: 1yr. 2+ yrs. & 6 yrs. This was a perfect fit! It’s made for kids and can accommodate adults. We packed a picnic lunch, after purchasing tickets you can eat in the village. They have several tables available. Right near the chapel under a beautiful tree. We then started investigating all the quaint buildings… each one having a unique history, and all having interesting displays of the past. This was a great way to start teaching history to the very young. They enjoyed moving place to place and seeing what surprise was inside. Hard to say which they liked best.
This place is well laid out, good signage, helpful kind employees, clean and well groomed landscape.
The train ride is not very long but with the village to checkout, it’s just right!
We did not use the ‘tour app’ but they have one available. We found we spent about 3 hours… we had a ride home, otherwise we would have stayed a bit longer.
There are also some adult surprises… i.e. if you like cars, old or antique, they have an impressive view for you!
This was a great summer discovery! And would recommend it, HIGHLY.
Thanks for reading.

The property is gorgeous, and the staff are well informed and fantastic. I loved having a quiter day with the kids that was not time/schedule demanding, and we could leisurely look through all of the buildings. The day we visited, there was an artist carving wood and a blacksmith making items for sale (he has a business card and can have items delivered). Antique cars, working model trains, small antique shop, short ride on a steam engine train, and more. Well worth a visit

What a nice surprise. Thought this would be a quick stop to kill some time and it turned into a delightful stroll through Maine history. Many of the buildings had been moved from other places in Maine so it was not a recreated village, but really a historic one. An old town hall building, a small chapel, a real small town, railroad depot , an antique car museum which was amazing. Missed riding the train, but had a great time.
