The museum is devoted to the United States Naval Training Center, Bainbridge. It is open on weekends. Educational and interesting. Reopened after coronatime.

We have talked about taking my father-in-law here for sometime, and we finally got a chance. After watching the eagles at the Conowingo Dam, we went here. he, and all of us, really enjoyed ourselves. He had done his basic training here, as did the docent who was on that day. He was also from Lancaster, as are we, so they had a great time comparing stories, well worth a stop.

Ever read the book Capt. Phillips, OR watched the movie? The US Navy Seals to the rescue...delivered by the USS Bainbridge: A Stealth 2004 Missile Carrier on duty in the Indian Ocean: Against Somali Pirates. The home of the name Bainbridge is a former U.S. Naval Base (1942-1976)located in Port Deposit, Maryland on the Susquehanna). This Base served over 700,000 men and women (some who gave their lives to defend this country); Was the largest WAVE facility in the world; Had a Nuclear Training School; A NAPS facility, and a 1,000 bed hospital....WOW!
You can see all of this at The USNTC Bainbridge Museum (and Base) at #6 South Main Street (P.O. Box 65), in Port Deposit, Maryland 21901 . This is one of the largest Naval Museums in the region, and only five miles off of I-95 . You can also find some of the Collection at The Port Deposit Visitors Center (The Gas House) along the Promenade that runs almost half the length of the town along the Susquehanna River. A stop is a mustifyur in the area....and/or if you want fantastic food a t Lee's Landing...................Worth the Visit!

Very Interesting visit to a time and era not that many years back. Bainbridge is a defunct 300 acre military base. It's worth a stop and visit. I especially liked the dusty interior and displays. Check the hours to confirm the place is actually open. The museum is operated by volunteers.

In 1942 The United States Naval Training Center Bainbridge opened to train over 700,000 men and women who became part of The US Navy until the Base closed in 1976. The Base is (still there) over 2,000 acres, 300 feet above the town of Port Deposit, Maryland and The Susquehanna River. At its height, the Base had a 1,000 bed hospital, a NAPS (Naval Academy Preparatory School) facility, a Nuclear School, and was the largest WAVE base in the USA.
The Museum (6 South main Street, in Port Deposit) houses one of the largest naval collections in the region), and is open every Saturday and Sunday from 1-4 pm-all year long. In addition, you can arrange a private tour (no fee, but donations greatly accepted) on the Base (tours must be booked in advance).
Along with the new Gas House Visitors Center, a stop in Port Deposit is well-worth a half day visit...and perhaps a bit more. The Town also offers the Paw Paw House Museum and several fine restaurants that overlook the Susquehanna River just above where it empties into the Chesapeake Bay.
Currently the present USS Bainbridge is a stealth missile carrier (DDG-96) currently on duty in the Indian Ocean dealing with Somalian pirates.............Remember the cargo ship The Maersk Alabama that was hijacked by those pirates a few years ago? Remember Captain Phillips (novel and movie with Tom Hanks)? If so, also keep in mind that it was the USS Bainbridge that came to the rescue: Now you know the rest of the story.
