This review is for the campground. If you are a nature lover, you will love this campground. Absolutely beautiful. Private sites with lots of trees and shrubs between you and the next campers. The bathrooms were clean and the showers were adequate. If you choose the last loop of the campground, the sites will be right on the river. The middle loop's sites are on higher ground. They provide bear boxes for your food because there is a lot of wildlife in the campground. Firewood is provided there but nothing else (they do have water and a sink at the restrooms) so buy all your supplies before you get there. Walk right from your site to hiking trails. This place is a gem.

Mohawk Trail State Forest Campground is a pristine and rejuvenating camping site. I stayed in campsite 20 which is one of the hike-in sites (car-free) and enjoyed the ample space and proximity/easy access to the river which is no more than 20 yards away.

To get to this site and other hike-in sites (17-22), one needs to walk down a somewhat steep hill where all the "car free" campsites are located. Two wagons are at the base of the hill to help you carry your gear. Depending on which campsite you get, you'll be walking anywhere from 60-100 yards to get to your site. It's downhill there...but don't forget that it is uphill going back!

Site 17 is the biggest and there is no one right next to it. It has great views of the river. Only caveat about this site is the hill everyone walks down to get to their site meaning they can look down on you as they pass by. Site 19 is another great option because there is no one right next to you and you also have great river views.

Sites 18, 20, and 22 are all in a row, but there is good space between them so you don't feel like you are right on top of another group. 18 is a good site, but the road and area where wagons are stored are right there so people might be walking by often. When it rains, you have a nice views of a small little waterfall.

Site 20 is where I stayed and thought it was great. Tons of space. Tiny little creek right behind it is nice.

Site 21 is very small, not too private, and floods during rain. A couple arrived to the site after heavy rain and decided not to stay because it was swamped. Best to avoid site 21 if possible.

Site 22 is the farthest (100 yards to walk there) but is private, has some nice river views, and is decently sized.

A grill, picnic table and a large bear locker are at each site. Bear lockers can fit coolers (about two 50 quart coolers) AND about 3 medium-sized boxes of food with no problem. If you want, bring a lock with you to lock your items if you feel the need.

All site are well-maintained with lots of trees etc. Staff dusts everything off and rakes the area prior to your arrival.

The nearest bathroom, sink for dishes, drinking water sources, and shower are at the top of the hill right next to where you park your car. This walk to these amenities are the only things I didn't like about camping in the car-free area but thought it was worth it to camp there anyways because the spaces are bigger, quieter, less crowded, and you can walk down a little embankment to get the river where there is a "pool" to swim.

Bathrooms were very clean. I did go there once early in the morning and staff hadn't gotten there yet to clean. A few stalls were short on toilet paper and I saw paper on the ground. But right when staffed arrived, everything was very clean and tidy and sterilized. Bathrooms where cleaned constantly throughout the day.

Staff at this park are friendly, accomodating, and professional.

Hiking trails to mountain tops are within walking distance and many are only 1.5-3.5 miles.

This was my first time visiting and I plan to return soon.

Great experience, scenery, and people.

The fall foliage is absolutely breathtaking. The trail is long but well worth it. Definitely a fall destination

We come up here with friends every summer. We love camping by the river and having the kids play in the water. Such a beautiful place.

We took a hike yesterday - up Indian trail and back Mohawk / nature trail. I wish that the map / signage had been better. Various signs say ‘nature trail’, which was confusing. I’m just one of those people that like good signage when hiking. We got home to find ticks on the dog and us, so beware of that.

Soooo relaxing and quiet. Nice clean park and camp sites. The sound of the river is amazing. Some hiking around. I would say they are moderate trails. Bear boxes available in every site. We had a 17 foot travel trailer that fit perfect in the site. No hookups but very clean bathroom and showers.

We went in search of the jake swamp tree, it’s the tallest tree in Massachusetts. The park employee couldn’t tell us where to find it because if they gave out that info people would try to climb it or carve their name in it. We did find the pine grove it’s located in so we think we found the tree. It’s a nice walk, I would recommend it.

We took this back road to avoid the faster roads and found some old buildings interesting villages. Very enjoyable.

Mohawk Park state forest is a great place to camp. We had a tent and a short stay with nice weather and found lots of things to do in the area. This is a great place for yourself and the kids to “unplug” for the weekend since you will not have a cell signal or WiFi when staying here. They have decent bath houses and electrical outlets at the bath house only. Very “back to nature” style camping with bear boxes on each site for the storage of your food. Very affordable at $17.00 a night if you are a resident of Massachusetts. I would definitely visit here again.
