Spent time feeding them apples and just hanging out with them. Gentle giants they are. Not a lot of places to go into, but they are building a pole barn and have other shelters. The area is being all fixed up with some nice pasture land for the horses.

We're so happy to hear that you had a nice time on our new farm, even though you visited just as we've been re-establishing here in West Brookfield. Please do come back to see how much farther we've come any time you wish. We hope to break ground on the pole barn in the Spring after an exciting and eventful winter!!!

I would not send a rabid dog there. This place is moving up the road finally. This farm was once very beautiful now it is ugly. This woman has brought way to many horses here In the summer you could drive by a smell urine something I have never smelt going by any horse farm.

I just read the harsh review and if you were coming from a show horse, expensive stable setting, I can see where it might feel shabby and run down. Think working farm vs. showplace. If you understand that they are giving pastures and a herd to horses that were often abused or neglected, or were about to be sent to slaughter in Canada, you begin to understand the love and respect the staff feel towards horses and the connection they want others to have the chance experience.
It's not a museum or paid attraction. it's a place where you can lean on the fence and connect with the draft horses which made America great, and other retired/rescue horses. They even have a few youngsters. Bring a few carrots. Relax.
Blue Star Equiculture is almost entirely run by volunteers and funded by donations. if you love horses and want to lend a hand, by all means donate and help.

I travel to Blue Star throughout the year
to sketch or photograph the horses. It is in my hometown so I do not have to travel far but I noticed the negative review and cannot imagine what this person is talking about.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Here are some of my pictures.

Between your horses, your staff, and volunteers, you have one of the most beautiful places in this state, I have yet to meet one face not smiling (gorgeous scenery too). The comfort felt as a visitor and the education this property and people provide to those who have the pleasure of experiencing is absolutely unmatched anywhere I've ever ventured. Keep up the amazingness. I've never seen such a dedicated volunteer based workforce!

After reading the reviews, we decided to visit Blue Star Equiculture on our way to the reining horse show at the Big E. Oh my god, this place was the worse place we have ever seen. The barn was old, falling apart and didn't look safe to even walk in let alone leave those beautiful draft horses to reside in. This place needs to be reported to the mspca and those poor horses need to be rescued from this awful place. The lower level was like a dungeon. We counted at least 12 horses that were in that underground, all crowded together in a dark small area. They were unable to stand and put their heads up because the ceiling was too low. There was no ventilation, or water. The horses on the upper level also looked depressed and when the horses stepped on the floor, the floor looked like it was going to cave in. Some stalls had two draft horses in them and they were unable to move. Again, we did not see any water in these stalls. . The photos shown are false and misleading. Please rescue these beautiful horses from this awful neglect and deplorable conditions.

We're so sorry your visit left you with such a horrible impression of our conditions and our mission. Now that we are at a new location in West Brookfield, we invite you to revisit any time here on our forever farm. We may have had a few limitations due to our landlord in Palmer but can assure you that all the horses we have saved are cared for and loved with all that we have to give them. We've placed over 500 retired, disabled or rescued draft horses in the 10 years we've been doing this work as well as keeping the herd that will be forever with us. We are so excited about the new pole barn breaking ground in the spring here along with teaching facilities and much more. We truly do hope you'll reconsider and give you opinion an opportunity to shift.

We were there for a recent event and fell in love with the place, atmosphere and people. It was a fund raiser for their not for profit agricultural experience. Go, see , walk and experience the farm life.

Where to start? If you love animals and especially horses, this is a must stop. Located in Bondsville Ma, a village of Palmer, this is the old Domey Farm. Instead of selling it for house lots, these wonderful folks bought it and transformed a dairy farm into a retirement home for horses, draft horses, down to ponies. Instead of just putting them down because they can't work any more, they get to enjoy the last years of their life walking around a farm well taking care of and meeting new friends. It's WONDERFUL! The care and love they receive is evident, and better yet you get to meet them, pet them and just enjoy them. You can then go next door to the Burgundy Brook restaurant and enjoy some of the best down-home food you will ever tast, everything is home made, and the portions are huge, (Try Breakfast), Get day for the whole family. Easy to get to, off the pike in Palmer on Rt 181. Give a go, you won't be disappointed and you will be helping these wonderful animals, free admission they do accept donations.

They are not there to ride however they have carriage rides, volunteers are welcomed to care for horses. They are all rescue horses, retired working horses. Non profit so even $10 is very much appreciated and it goes towards the horses care. Well worth a stop, there is information on fences explaining what they do. Most of the horses are very affectionate. Just make sure and check with someone when you stop. Obviously don't go into fenced areas and wander unsupervised. My daughter loves to go and visit, feed, and if someone is there to supervise, brush them.

In Palmer, MA, not far from the Connecticut border and closer to Springfield Ma, is a place called Blue Star Equiculture. This place is a draft horse (you know those incredibly large and beautiful horses, like the Clydesdales, that pull wagons and give carriage rides in all major cites) rescue. I had known about this place for about 5 years and finally made the trip to MA just to visit them. I was welcomed with open arms by the owner/director Pam Rickenbach, her fiance (and right hand man) Paul Moshimer and all the people that love these animals and volunteer daily. This rescue is one place that openly invites visitors - anytime - to stop in and "Meet The Herd." I got to meet and have my picture taken with Tex, the 3rd tallest horse in the world and introduced to and even brushed a couple of the magnificent huge horses there. I learned about each horses' past, some quite sad and some happy, and learned some of the ideals of Blue Star. "Humans Helping Horses, Helping Humans" and "Horses Paved the Way" They are all about how we can all give back to the earth. If you want to be awed by the beauty of Tex and Merlin and Mario (orange, white and black drafts) you really should take some time to visit. A few hours is sufficient but I went back every day for 3 days. It will be an experience you won't soon forget. I could say more but I think it would be better if you go and once you have become enthralled with the place and its inhabitants you will see for yourself what I mean. This is their fb page: https://www.facebook.com/equiculture . They do have a website but they are reconstructing it now. I sincerely hope that all those who will be traveling to the NE take an hour or so and visit, you will not be disappointed.
