Came in a rainy day, mostly inside things to see. So much to read and discover. The letters and informative writing by each person brings it alive and was the highlight for me.

Visited today, fabulous and very moving displays. One of the volunteers, Dave Hetz , spent a lot of time with us, explaining some of the displays and generally making it a very personal experience.
Such an emotive place to visit, stories from both sides told exceptionally well. Well done for the work they do. And good tea and cake plus greetings from the team cat Scramble.

Last visited the museum over 10 years ago and had been meaning to visit for a number of years made more difficult by moving out of the County.
I was not disappointed. I took my wife along with me who had not been before and like myself is interested in this era of history.
This museum is a must for all Battle of Britain aficionados. It has a very comprehensive collection of memorabilia collected over the years from many crash sites of both British and German aircraft and each with a story behind the display. Many full sized aircraft on display are replicas with their own history having been made for the epic Battle of Britain film some of which was filmed at the former RAF base. The bits with Christopher Plummer and Michael Caine.
Outside there are both real and replicas to see plus the new bronze sculptures of a famous photo taken at Hawkinge during that pivotal summer.
There’s a well stocked shop and a super cafe with a nice menu for a great cuppa and a bacon sandwich. Plenty of helpful volunteers on hand to answer any questions you have.
Photography is not allowed inside the museum but outside is permitted with permission from the staff.
Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

I have visited all of the similar WW2 aircraft museums in Britain, and Hawkinge is by far the best! An incredible array of not only BoB artifacts, but also Home Front, ARP, Civil Defence, V1 and V2 and so much more. Dave and his team clearly work extremely hard to keep Britain’s Darkest and Finest history period alive! My recommendation would be to arrive early and be prepared to spend some time here, as there is so much to see and read.

Fascinating museum displaying artefacts and exhibits from a unique period of time in British history. Allow about three hours to absorb the information detailed for the exhibits, from both the Allied and Axis sides of the Battle of Britain.
Very friendly staff (all volunteers) and you can enjoy some delicious food from the on-site canteen.
Overall, a fascinating and enjoyable experience that I highly recommend visiting.

We were met by friendly staff, who explained the best way around the museum. This is obviously a labour of love for everyone involved. There is so much to see. (Be prepared to leave phone/camera locked securely at the front desk, as photography is not allowed - there are a lot of personal items on show)
The attention to detail in the displays is second to none, and it was interesting to see the information and artefacts from enemy planes too.
The cafe was excellent, with staff going above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our food...which was well cooked and delicious.
All in all, I would thoroughly recommend a visit for young and old to get an insight into one of the most iconic events in British history.

There are a lot of these little aviation museums in Kent. This one is similar to the two up at Manston, near Ramsgate. It is absolutely crammed full of the stories of the men who lost their lives in the Battle of Britain. Working mostly in reverse, starting with the digging out of a field, the wrecked engine of a crashed plane (on display) and then piecing together the back story of the pilot and his Time in the Air Force. Most only 19 to 23yrs old when they died. All very moving. There is a shop and a nice Cafe and also some real Aircraft to look at. Follow it up with a visit to The Battle of Britain Memorial a few miles away.

This museum is like a Tardis . Jam packed full of history from the BOB . To be honest if you read every single historical info it really would take more than a day here . The volunteers and staff are so attentive . They really are passionate and proud of this hidden gem in Kent . It’s definitely must for the aviation geek . Also for anyone that wants to understand what it was like to live thru the Battle of Britain . For both sides . We will never forget our heroes

I’m fortunate enough to have been taken to various museums from a very early age (aged 6) pertaining to the Battle of Britain due to my fathers research and his eventual publication of 12 books on the both the Battle of Britain and the air war throughout the Second World War(albeit from a Luftwaffe perspective). Having been too and experienced many museums on the Battle of Britain it is my opinion that Hawkinge is by far the best.
Why?
The attention to detail in the exhibits is tremendous. The knowledge of those employed there and those that also volunteer is also exceptional. The lay out of the museum is first class and it manages to create and capture the essence of the battle that was raging above our islands skies in 1940.
I beleive that I’m somewhat privileged, in as much that as a young boy I was able to meet and talk to several German (yes German) fighter pilots who flew in the battle, I could name several that stayed at our house in Liverpool, who were lovely people and had nothing but time and interest for those British people like Dave Brocklehurst who were more than prepared to also give their side of the story. This alone makes this museum something special. Don’t get me wrong I’m glad we defeated the threat of invasion, however, this museum also presents another side of the story.
The curator of this museum is a MBE and quite rightly so. In his company I feel both humbled and privileged as he has an unique ability of being able to view the Battle of Britain from both sides, rather than that of an angry Brit glad that we defeated the Nazi threat.
That’s something special which can’t be reached nor coached. Hence why Dave Brocklehurst has an MBE.
On summing up this museum, it’s a hard thing for me to put into words, however I’ll try.
From spending a lot of hours there. There is no bias. There is no blame. The museum gives an honest account of those involved and tells the story from both sides without prejudice . I’ve met more than 3 members of the luftwaffe who’s machines and artifacts now reside within hawkinge museum, having known those pilots, would they be proud (albeit they were German), Absolulelty.

This museum is a jewel! So much to see, read and inbibe. You could spend easily a full day here and learn about the valiant combatants and their aircraft. You won't find a more comprehensive history of the BoB than here.
