We have been looking forward to visiting this museum and it’s worth the trip to see, full of artefacts that show the struggle that happened in 1940, directly above the museum. It’s well laid out and tidy a credit to the owners. Food was good at decent prices too.

We visited the museum today. I really don't understand some of the negative reviews on here? We had an excellent time at the museum, and everyone we encountered from Scramble the museum cat to all the volunteers and cafe staff, were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. There is so much to see and take in, it could take months to read it all! The fact that you can't take in cameras or mobile phones, is museum policy, so if you don't like it, then don't go in. We had no problem with this rule, and it is in their leaflet, and on enough noticeboards before you go into the museum. We had our lunch in the onsite cafe. The choice of food was good, and extremely reasonable compared to some establishments. A mug of tea only £1.30, absolute bargain. The recent addition of the pilot's statue is amazing, and quite moving when you see the original photograph that it was based on. So sad to think 9 months after the photo was taken they had all perished fighting for their country. A truly excellent museum, with dedicated staff. Thank you for a most interesting visit.

Great museum with plenty to see, and well run by the dedicated volunteers. An absolute crying shame they don't allow photos to be taken inside as do all the other aviation and Battle of Britain museums we visited around southern England. I believe this detracts from the overall experience. Needs to change.

Excellent museum, interactive, well laid out, helpful staff. Cafe ok, sausage and bacon sandwiches not recommended I am afraid!

Packed with information about so many young lives. Hard to imagine what they went through. A most fitting tribute to the past. Well done all who are involved.

We visited here on a wet Sunday afternoon, and luckily most of the museum is under cover. Initially you see a lots of metal bits of aircraft, which didn’t mean a lot to me. However, in another part there were various artefacts donated by either the airmen or their families which was a fascinating view on a turbulent time in WW2.
The real USP of this museum is in telling the stories of the airmen and women who fought on both sides and what happened to them. This I felt is what really brought things home to me. It is on the site of a former RAF base and clues are all around.
You need to be aware that photos and mobiles are not allowed within the museum, although photos are permitted outside. There is also a reasonably priced cafe on site with lovely cakes! The only small criticism I would make is that most of the E descriptions of the displays are written in capital letters throughout which doesn’t make for easy reading. There is so much material here that it is very easy to spend a half day here.

really good day out, allow half a day as there is so much to see (too much if anything). Volunteers are helpful and knowledgeable. Not sure if kids would appreciate it as it is not really interactive and a lot of reading

Interesting museum on the site of an old RAF base that saw service in the Battle of Britain, it still has the damage in the roof to prove it! Be warned if you're interested in planes, history or battlefield archeology you could easily spend all day here looking at case after case of mangled bits of metal from various aircraft that crashed in the area
Don't forget o look up, as there is stuff mounted on the walls as well

There were many very moving stories and artifacts relating to those who served during ww2. Many families donated personal items from those they had lost during the War, or who had since passed away. This way, their stories will live on for all who visit to see. There is a great selection of Aircraft, weapons, uniforms along with many stories behind them. Be prepared to be moved by some of those stories. I was a little disappointed I wasn't able to take photos inside the museum, but once it was explained why, I fully understood the reason and totally respect that decision by the Museum. The Museum also has Cafe serving hot/cold drinks and snacks. Do try the homemade cakes, very nice!!!!!

As everyone else has said, the fact that you can’t bring your cell phone in with you is a bit preposterous in this day and age but it is what it is. You leave your cell phone at the desk pay to come in, there is a discount if you are a senior. First the bad - we took my mother with us who just turned 90 and she was in a wheelchair. It is extremely difficult to maneuver a wheelchair into the various sheds and display areas. Many of the entrances have steep ramps and it’s such tight quarters inside you really can’t move around too much. Also some of the display info, as others have said, are written in capital letters which is an absolute no no. Lastly, my mother in the wheelchair could not see into some of the display cases because they were either too high or at the wrong angle. Now for the good! For my husband and son who were visiting from America and are fascinated by history and WW2, they were absolutely thrilled to be here and could have spent at least two more hours going around everything. My mother thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the old newspaper clippings and advertisements and also the parachutes that had been made into clothing, and she reminisced about the air raid shelters and told us personal stories about various things that she saw in the museum. That will be my main memory from taking her here for the day. She was so funny, she kept telling everyone we bumped into that she had lived through the war and been evacuated and telling them all about the different bits and pieces in the museum. She and I were pretty bored by all the engine parts, but we all had a fantastic lunch at the smashing little café. I highly recommend the egg salad sandwich or the egg chips and ham! Very affordable and super staff in the café and you can use a credit card! I am very glad we went to the Battle of Britain memorial before we came here, as it help to make more sense of things. One great extra ones that we saw a couple of spitfires flying overhead while we were visiting. Obviously we have no photos to share! Lol
