You can see the line of cars lining up for the tunnel to Canada (a lot of cars), the river, the RenCen, and lots of people approaching the riverwalk. There was a great festival in the park as we walked by, plenty of room for a music stage and many vendors. I didn't go in, but it looked like a good party. On Monday, pretty quiet but a nice overlook of the entrance to the riverwalk.

I love Hart Plaza. I'm a native Detroiter born and raised from the 1970's thru adulthood. As a teenager, Hart Plaza was always one of the summer highlights we looked forward to when just about every single weekend there was a different festival being held. The vendors, the food, the music, the people. It was very enjoyable. We'd hang out, meet new people and enjoy the weather. This of course was before gentrification began and there was no fee to enter Hart Plaza. No gate surrounding it either. You could enter and exit from all angles, I even once witnessed a man jump into the Detroit River for a little swim LOL. It used to be so crowded there and watching the fireworks at Hart Plaza was even more crowded. Things are different now. There's a beautiful River Walk to enjoy. There's also an ugly, imposing chain fence surrounding the entire Plaza, giving it a prison-like feel IMO. One way in, one way out. Doesn't make me feel safe if I needed to escape some tragic thing happening (ppl are unhinged these days). I'd love to see the city have a carnival each summer at Hart Plaza too. If Detroit is going to be able to compete with other major tourist cities, Hart Plaza could definitely be the starting point of interest.

Hart Plaza is a must-see when visiting downtown Detroit. The Plaza has numerous sites to see: works of art like Noguchi's Pylon and the Labor Monument by David Barr and Sergio DeGiusti, a statue and historic marker honoring Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac (founder of Detroit) and his voyageurs; an historic marker remembering the site of the incorporation of Ford Motor Company; the Horace Dodge Memorial Fountain by Noguchi. From the center of the plaza, view the downtown skyline. From the riverwalk, view the Detroit River and the Windsor, Ontario, Canada skyline. From the Plaza, you can access the Detroit Riverwalk to walk for more sites. And if you're lucky, you might catch a freighter passing by! Always an awesome sight.
The Plaza has seen better days, and has changed much through the years, it still is home to numerous festivals each summer as well as Movement (Detroit's internationally known Electronic Music Festival) in May and the Detroit Jazz Festival (established in 1976 and is still the world's largest free jazz festival).

Hart Plaza opened in 1975 and is named after the late senator Phillip Hart. It’s along the Detroit River and hosts an annual jazz festival and many concerts and festivals.
It’s nice in the summer when they turn the donut shaped fountain on.
Adjacent to the Joe Louis “fist” monument.

Die Hart Plaza darf man beim einem Detroitbesuch nicht verpassen. Es gibt einiges zu erkunden und man hat auch einen schönen Blick auf Kanada.

Hart Plaza is a pretty big square just by the Detroit Riverwalk.
It offers great downtown and river views. Also there're several great monuments around it - to Ford, Cadillac and the magnificent Underground railroad sculpture.

The good news is the setting: Hart Plaza offers excellent views of the River and Windsor, Ontario. The bad news is the design of this large public space, which is essentially all concrete. Still, it is good space for fairs and other events.

The park on the water front is being updated and looks like it will be really nice when done . Still good place to take pics!

Hart Plaza is located near the Detroit River. The views are nice, and it frequently hosts festivals and other public events. While it is not especially well designed, the setting alone makes it worth a visit.

This is a good example of the negative consequences of taking out green space in a city and replacing it with cement. No one wants to congregate there! Nice view of the river and Canada, but that's not enough to overcome the sorrow of a big, ugly concrete plaza. Skip it.

Where's the easiest place to park to get here?

Hello. This was answered a while ago by tev9999 and it should still apply. "You might want to park in the Greektown Casino garage. Parking is free if you go in the casino to validate your ticket. Plenty of good restaurants right by the casino. You can then walk south on Beaubien to the Ren Cen, which is connected to Hart Plaza by the river walk. There are a few restaurants on Beaubien including Niki's Pizza, Loco's (Mexican), the Detroiter Bar (good burgers) and Tom's Oyster Bar (seafood).
From Hart Plaza, if you don't want to keep walking, hop on the people mover in the financial district and it will take you right back to the casino."
If you want to keep walking, head north on Woodward up to Campus Martius. From there you can find a great Coney Dog just to the west at Lafayette Coney Island (on Lafayette). If you still have time you can keep heading north on Woodward to the Stadium area with the Fox Theater, Hockeytown Cafe, Cheli's Chili and several other places. If you want to head back to Greektown from Campus Martius, bear northeast on Monroe. Stop at the Old Shillelagh for a Guinness, and you are right back at the casino.
How much is it to enter Hart Plaza for the Ribs and R&B festival?
