Gorgeous homes - loved them both! Our guide was awesome. You could tell she enjoyed her job! She took her time explaining all the details of both houses and there was a lot to see!

We were amazed that they were almost completely booked for the day when we got there at about 10:20am. They had just opened and already they were full until our tour at 1:00pm. Suggest calling ahead and getting a reservation!

Gift shop is small but very nice and I bought several things there. Loved this stop! Recommend for anyone who appreciates fine old homes.

Three cheers for this exceptional tour for the Hackley/Hume tour. The homes are stunning and one really develops an appreciation for the craftsmanship that went into building these gorgeous homes. As an added bonus, the visitor is also welcomed into Firehouse and Depression Era museums!

I recommend this tour 100%!

Our first visit to Muskegon so we were walking the Hackley Heritage Trail and came upon the Hackley-Hume houses and had to stop. Impressive and beautiful to see these side-by-side houses with their shared barn! Built in the Queen Anne Style in the late 1880s, these houses feature turrets and gables and windows of all shapes, some with stained glass, and spindles and beautiful colors. Truly amazing to look at. We decided we had to see the interiors. So we bought our tickets, and shared our phone number (in case they needed to contact us if there is a COVID occurrence at the site). It was just the two of us, wearing masks as did our tour guide Mackenzie. She was knowledgeable and able to answer a variety of questions as we made our way through the two houses. The fireplaces, windows, woodwork, and wallpaper are all amazing. The Charles Hackley story is quite amazing, so this was a great starting point to learn about his legacy. His partner Thomas Hume built his in a less pretentious style for his family of 9. Both houses are well worth the time to visit and enjoy!

Lovely historic homes, and a very interesting tour. The architectural detail in the Hackley home in particular is astonishing, especially all the woodwork. It's interesting to see how the restoration has occurred over time -- a few areas of wall are left unrestored so you can see how they repaired the plaster and applied the stenciling. Next door, the Hume home is a bit more practical (they had 7 children) but still gorgeous.

During Covid, they are committed to only have tours with same-family members, so that strangers don't share germs with each other. Since I was alone I got a tour of my very own! This was amazing, and I got to ask a lot of questions, which the guides were very patient about answering. Shout out to Alecia and CJ for making it a wonderful experience.

Be aware that since this is the policy, you might not get a tour until later in the day. I got there a little after 11 and my tour was at 1. I don't think you can reserve ahead without showing up in person, but I may be wrong about that.

I knew they were closed but was able to park on side street by the homes. Beautiful to see and there were informational plaques out front which added to the history. Well maintained and beautiful, easy to get to.

We had a great time but for those who can't take heat there is no a/c. Wonderfully maintained Victorian mansions.

If you are into old houses, this is for you. The guided tour is extensive and intertaining. The history of the region and the two houses are well explained. The quality of the workmanship and the sheer enormity of the build is amazing. We really enjoyed our visit.

We spent two and half hours in these homes and in the neighboring Fire house museum and Depression Era house.
If you are a history buff and / or love intricate woodworking and old architecture this is well worth a visit. Located in a beautiful historic residential area. Neat to just walk the pretty streets.
