First visit Deep Creek Conservation park

863755038

Just spent 3 nights camped at Tapanappa camp ground in Deep Creek Conservation park. This was our 1st visit & we booked our campsite (#8) at Tapanappa based on information from the park website. Tapanappa has 17 sites, all with concrete bordered fire pits. The downside of the fire pits is that they are HUGE and being positioned in the middle of the site take up far too much room. But, don’t despair, Rangers are gradually removing them and replacing with smaller, better contained steel drum type fire pits, offset from the centre of the site. This has already been done at an alternative campsite, Stringybark. Firewood is not available at any campsite, it’s strictly BYO.
Tapanappa has 4 long drop toilets (in 2 sets of 2) which are well maintained and cleaned by the Rangers. Internet access at Tapanappa is a 1 bar irregular service….don’t rely on it. Sites at Tapanappa provide some shade & shelter from the wind.

Stringybark is a much more sheltered campsite and hot showers are available within 1 amenities block (2 female toilets, 1 male & a camp kitchen sink. A short walk to the Ranger headquarters will get you 4 bar internet reception. Sites at Stringybark are much more sheltered, but that can come at the cost of recharging via solar if needed.

Trig point campsite is similar to Tapanappa, but has no internet access at all. The current road into Trig is passable for 2WD, but quite muddy with lots of potholes.

We also drove down to Blow Hole cove. This is strictly a 4WD track requiring low range gearing to descend & re-ascend. It’s very rocky and 4WD high clearance is a necessity (no lift kit necessary).
This is NOT a track for 2WD or AWD. If you get stuck and require a tow, be prepared to fork out around $500.
Overall a great place to visit, with very friendly and helpful Rangers.

Embarrassing to be a South Aussie and never to have visited here before. The Park consists of a series of must see incentives that cannot be completed in a day. Ruins, waterfalls, hikes. Theres hikes of all lengths and severity and it was a popular day for tourists. Take ample provisions. Excellent facilities. We look forward to returning soon.

The dirt road in and out of Deep Creek Conservation Park was good in June when we did a day trip. Paid $10 on arrival for the day - money well spend as the track was well maintained as were the camp grounds etc. We did not camp but looked at the Trig Camp site - which has 17 camp sites, all with fire pits - take your own wood and kinderling. 2 toilets and water tanks. Looks like a great place to camp. Some lovely open areas to sit and watch the sea. We walked the Boat Harbour Circuit Hike from Pages Lookout to Boat Harbour Beach Lookout and returned the same way. Very gentle up and down walk - nothing was steep, all very gentle down and up. Good views of the ocean and great perspective both ways so not boring to return the same way. The flora changes as you head up the valley, going gently down, cross a stream and then gently up. Saw one kangaroo in the bush - plenty on the drive in - lots of birds. Two eagles were hunting, soaring while we sat in the car to have lunch - was amazing animal display. We had some rain while walking but had our rain jackets so not a problem. Was nice to watch the clouds roll in from the sea. 8n the whale season you can see whale from the lookouts etc. Good range of walks from 1 to 5 levels.

Spent four nights camping at Trig camp ground situated deep within the Deep Creek Conservation Park. This camp site has no power, no water and drop toilets so be prepared. Fire pits at each site available to use when no fire restrictions exist. Our group stayed on campsites 22, 23 and 24. Ample room for four tents, gazebo and three cars and trailer. Not suitable for caravans but camper trailers and pop-tops are well suited for the environment. These sites were well protected from the elements with Black it’s and trees all around. Across the road was a grass patch area for the kangaroos. A short drive approx. 7-8km was Blow Hole beach, accessible only by 4WD. The waterfall hike (6km return) is also nearby and well suited for fit and experienced hikers. I would highly recommend taking hiking sticks for the trek as it becomes quite steep as descending the gully. Allow 2 - 2 1/2 hours return. Overall a great weekend away for families with your children or teenagers.

This park is an absolute must for walkers and lovers of native wildlife. It can be rugged and remote and lacks mobile phone coverage so take a paper map with you. Do not miss this park if you are in the area. It has some spectacular views across Backstairs Passage to Kangaroo Island.

Lovely drive up the country road to get to Deep Creek Conservation Park where you will be greeted by kangaroos in their natural habitat. The plus point is the view. In the background you will see the beautiful coastline of Fleurieu Peninsula. If you like going off beaten tracks, photographing picturesque landscapes, and being away from hustle bustle of life, then this is the place to go to.

What a wonderful place to experience the outdoors. With tracks that take you to some amazing places, giving you a great views and an amazing experience. Some of the tracks can be be a little tough but take your time and enjoy the beautiful scenery and hidden hideaways.

I loved jogging the hiking trails in the cliffs along the coast line.... great coastal views.
However in a few instances the sign posts were lacking and without a iphone & GPS could have been tricky.
