The morning we visited, there was zero view. Visibility was a couple of meters. We were truly among the clouds and it was utterly spectacular. Plenty of birdlife and a pleasant stroll around the loop track.
Next time, hopefully we will actually be able to enjoy the view.

We were surprised at how high we were and being amongst the clouds, whilst obscuring the view gave us a fabulous experience anyway with magical atmosphere. Viewpoints are an easy walk from the car park.

The views are spectacular seem to go on forever, it was a cold morning when we visited so if its winter dress warmly and if you do the walk wear sensible shoes, well worth the visit.

Even with the haze of smoke the point lookout is worth the dirt road drive in. There are picnic areas and lovely viewing platforms. Take any of the little day walks including the one out to weeping rock to see the beech forest.

Point Lookout is a little off the beaten track from the Waterfall Way but certainly well worth the visit.
I had not been here in over 30 years so it was great to revisit this stunning area. There are lots of walks in the national park as well as a nice camping ground with basic facilities.
We drove to the top which is over 1500m above sea level. There was a drop in 5 degrees so remember to take a jacket. We walked out the wheelchair friendly path out to the lookout. From here you can see right out towards the East over the untouched wilderness of the New England National Park. Love the view over this stunning area. If our knees were a little better we would have loved to go for the walk down to the valley below into the rich Gondwana rainforest.
We continued along the loop back to the car park. Here there is a nice stone building with a fireplace and picnic tables.

The road is not good good in wet weather as it is not sealed and could get very muddy, but in normal weather is just a bit bumby but very worthwhile. The views are magnificent and easily accessible with a short walk through the bush from car park.

My friend and I were driving through this area, and she is not able to negotiate uneven terrain. But that isn’t a problem at Point Lookout because the short walk from the car park has a well maintained easy track. Even though the weather was almost raining, the view was stunning!

Having cooked snags and damper on fire-places at over 5,100ft altitude with firewood kindly provided, we did the usual lookouts before doing the more challenging walk to "Weeping Rock". You don't have to do the full circuit form the upper car-park. Just dump the cars a few hundred metres short of the Point Lookout car-park (sharp left-hand bend on the right) and follow the track and signs. You need to be fit and nimble as you follow the steep track alongside the high cliffs - all of them 'weeping water' before you get to the "Weeping Rock" itself. Our kids drank from the trickling water and balanced along fallen moss-covered trees. Couldn't help but wonder when the next part of the rock-face would come crashing down...! Didn't do the full circuit back to Point lookout but will do next time. Just a stunning part of total wilderness and being safe!

Visited Point Lookout for the second year in a row, staying at the 10 bed 'The Residence' Last year it was foggy and damp but this year we could see all the way to the sea. The general consensus was that we preferred the wet and foggy - very special atmosphere that was a very different experience for our Queensland family.
