This place is a beautiful piece of history. We arrived just in time for the guided tour of the house and grounds and we were very glad that we did. The house is original but the two side houses were destroyed during Hurricane Katrina. The tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and very gregarious. The grounds include the main house, two side houses, a library/museum, a huge garden area, a confederate cemetery, and many walking paths throughout the grounds. The tour was of the main house only, you are able to walk through the museum/library and the rest of the grounds yourself. We spent about two hours here walking through the grounds and museum. The tour lasted approximately thirty minutes. To purchase tickets, you can purchase them online or visit the museum gift shop and purchase them there. This place is a wonderful experience. I highly recommend that you visit this home if you are in the area, you will definitely learn something new even if you are already well versed in the Civil War. Thank you Beauvoir!

We found the buildings and grounds to be attractive and well-maintained. The museum and tour were very informative and well-balanced. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

All we knew about Beauvoir before visiting was that it was a home of Confederate President Jefferson Davis. As a group of us was waiting on the house’s porch in record heat and humidity for the tour to begin, a man dressed in torn jeans, a tee shirt sporting some message, some kind of flap cap made of some sort of heavy fabric, noticeably sporting a variety of tattoos emerged through the front door and began to talk. In a bit, it became evident that he was the docent. Not exactly the stereotypical image. It didn’t take long for me to realize that Ron Clark was beyond a walking wealth of knowledge. His speaking pace rivaled that of Amtrak’s Acela’s speed. He gave us at least 60 minutes of detailed information withing 45 minutes, only stopping because he had to welcome the next tour. A master storyteller, he knew minutiae and could spout it on a moment’s notice, answering any and all questions without hesitation. He made that building and its surroundings come alive. The tale of Sarah Ann (Ellis) Dorsey, the owner who invited President Davis and his family to live on her property and subsequently willed it to him, is beyond fascinating. Why hasn’t she been given a more prominent place in American history? (We all know the answer to that.) Unfortunately for future visitors, Mr. Clark has moved on. I was assured that Beauvoir’s remaining docents are just as capable. If that’s the case, then they’re all exceptional. I feel privileged to have toured while he was there. Coincidentally, maybe Gid-incidentally, not too long before our visit, my husband and I read Robert E. Lee and Me: A Southerner’s Reckoning with the Myth of the Lost Cause by Virginia native Ty Seidule, a retired U.S. Army Brigadier General, West Point grad, and scholar who had an “aha” moment about what popular American society, especially that part from the Old South, propagated about the Lost Cause, did extensive research, and wrote a very honest, personal, readable, no-holds-barred explanation of the lies we’ve been taught, at the urging of his wife. What BG Seidule relayed made us more aware of what we experienced and gave us a counterpoint to the messages of other sights that now concentrate on slavery and the Civil Rights Movement. Mr. Clark ended his presentation with a beautifully phrased urging to learn background stories in history before reacting to things in a knee-jerk manner, close our ears and minds, accept erroneous conclusions about those who we initially think don’t hold parallel opinions to ours, thus furthering the gulfs that are dividing our wonderful country. In that vein, I urge any and all to visit Beauvoir with an open mind, fully prepared to hear things that will surprise -- and learn.

Venue refused to accept Trip Adviser credentials. Please refund! Money I paid for tickets was lost I presume. Venue said they were not getting paid by you!

The Presidential Tour at the Beauvoir estate and museum was excellent. Our tour guide Evelyn was a fantastic source of information and went out of her way to share lesser known points of interest. Plan on several hours as you will be driven (via golf cart) extensively around the property without rushing. The visit there was quite enjoyable. FYI, the tickets for the Presidential should be reserved 24 hours in advance through the website. We did not do so but Ms. Evelyn was kind enough to add us on. She will keep you interested and entertained with her southern charm and humor.

Biloxi is only a day's drive for us. Despite that, we had never been. Our three day decompression trip was really a good thing. We checked in to our hotel at Treasure Bay Hotel and Casino in late afternoon. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating. We almost immediately went to the buffet for dinner. This was a very enjoyable experience with a fine selection of excellently prepared dishes. We repeated this starting with breakfast the next morning. We went to Beauvoir to tour the place but found out a lot of interesting civil war/post war history while there! Back at Treasure Bay, we lined up for a seafood buffet of all you wanted king crab legs and whole Lobster! It was delicious! The next day we moved to the Beau Rivage for our last night. The resort complex was nice, but a little too much for us in terms of size. we are mobility challenged so the size of the casino and parking arrangements were a little daunting. For the late afternoon we had reserved a spot to go dolphin watching. That turned out to be wonderful! There were lots of dolphins surfacing and diving. To be sure, they were wild animals, not a coordinated, trained show. but lots of fun nonetheless! Three days of decompression and just relaxing! Biloxi- we will be back!

Nice opportunity to see a historic home conveniently located off highway 90. We took the tour with our kids, ages 2-10. Naturally the older ones were more interested than the younger ones, but there was enough to look at to hold the interest of most of them for the 45 minute tour.

The tour guide was passionate and enthusiastic - a gifted orator for sure. I do wish there had been more information about Jefferson Davis himself. At least 90% of the tour was centered around Sarah Dorsey, which wasn't boring, but wasn't exactly what had drawn us to the museum either. I imagine the presidential library would have been informative, but we had a limited amount of time and only took the house tour.

We did enjoy walking the grounds for a bit - on a cooler day it would be a lovely place for a picnic!

We took a lot of tours on our recent roadtrip and this was my kids' least favorite, but I don't regret going. It's great for kids to be exposed to history outside of the classroom. If you have the time, it's worth the stop.

We spent a morning on the house tour alone. Had to come back the next day to tour the grounds and Presidential Library and they didn't charge us again! History buffs will spend an entire day here. Well worth the fee and you need to allow at least 4 hours.

Civil war history is my favorite and this was a memorable location to visit. We had one of the best docents ever to lead our tour. Rob Clark REALLY enjoys the history of this home and the grounds. So much intertwined history from Jefferson Davis and the area. Nice gift shop and additional museum information in the main building. Don't miss going to the back of the property for the veterans cemetery and tomb of the unknown Confederate soldier.
