Birthplace of Australian Modernism
aug. 2021 • Venner
Much as we reject the notion, art goes in cycles. Heide was the birthplace of Australian Modernism, and among its foremost exponents were Sidney Nolan and Albert Tucker, both associated with Heidi. Heidi is a truly fascinating place, well worth a visit.

Extraordinary
apr. 2021 • Venner
A fantastic surprise this Art museum is right on our doorstep. I’ve seen the signs from the highway but never visited. Today we had a beautiful Autumn day in Melbourne and we started by exploring the gorgeous ground of Heidi.
We then ventured inside to view two collections on display. The first, was a more general display but featuring some really interesting displays using a variety of artistic mediums particularly paint and sculpture. The second separately housed display focused on the contribution that women have made to the arts. This was brilliant and in addition to the display you get to see the historic home in which it is curated.
The on site cafe is also worth a visit.

Birthplace of Australian Modern art
jan. 2021
Heidi is on the banks of the Yarra River. The home of John and Sunday Reed, which is available for inspection, was part artists' colony and part social center. The Museum has expanded and contains many works by modernists such as Sidney Nolan and Albert Tucker, two icons of Australian Modern art who were fostered by the Reeds. The Museum is quite large, but many people come to visit the Reed's home, conscious of its central role in Australia's cultural history.

Gallery with a lot of history
aug. 2020
You can almost hear the ghosts of artists who lived at Heidi. John and Sunday Reed established Heidi as a refuge for modern artists. Among the most promient was Sidney Nolan, one of Australia's best-known modernist artists. The gallery has expanded in recent years. It is on the Yarra River, just 15 minutes by car from the Melboure CBD. By the way, the park is a good place for children to play..

Interesting Museum

No doubt inspired by the Heidelberg School. Interesting works, and nice location. Tricky to get to by public transport though. Can get pretty crowded as well.

Beautiful wedding at Heide
mar. 2020 • Venner
I recently hosted my sisters wedding at Heide and it was a stunning location for the ceremony and reception. Simon, Jo and Bam from Heide all worked fantastically to make the day go without a hitch. They were accommodating and attentive to every detail. Food and service throughout were fantastic and I can’t thank them enough for making it a memorable day for my sister, her husband and their guests.

Moving with the times
mar. 2020
Heidi was created by John and Sunday Reed as a haven for creative artists. The Museum opened in 1981, mainly showing the Australian Modsernist artists, most of whom they knew personally, such as Sidney Nolan and Albert Tucker. In recent years, the Museum has began collecting living artists, as well as filling gaps in the Modeenist collection. The Museum has been showing neglected artists such as Joy Hester. Most recent acqusitions could be described as Contemporary art. New pieces have been commissioned for the sculpture park.. While "Modern" and "Contemporary" art are sometimes viewed as antipathetic, Heidi is keeping up-to-date as it expands its collection.

Mind Blowing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our 1st Virtual Reality Exhibition. A MUST while in Melbourne. The property’s History too. Go!!!
feb. 2020 • Par
Where do I start. Just go. You won’t regret it. From the beautifully presented property grounds and history behind the generous family who lived here and chose to dedicate this artistic haven for the public to explore. The art that hangs and pictures of many famous artists who’d visit.... this property is a treasure cove. Then there is the mind blowsg virtual reality exhibition by NZ born artist Jess Johnson and meeting the lovely ladies who run the museum and looked after my daughter and I so kindly. Oh gosh let’s not forget the Cafe with deliciously healthy meals... Go!! It will blow your mind the minute you put on the virtual reality goggles to be taken on a journey into the creative mind of Jess Johnson... she painstakingly must have spent unimaginable hours creating all these VR experiences that opened our minds to how future entertainment can be. My daughter and I will count this experience during our 72 hour escape to Melbourne, as the highlight and speaking point of our trip.

Superb garden setting for a lively museum
feb. 2020
We spent a most enjoyable three hours here today. Some really exciting exhibitions. We really loved the Tucker paintings. The AV exhibits were interesting, but the wait on them proved too much of a disincentive.

The gardens are lovely. And lunch outdoors in the restaurant really good.

Some quite nice things to see if you are nearby anyway.

Wouldn't go out of my way to go here. Nothing here really commanded my attention. Also the virtual reality art was non-accessible due to long lines of people waiting to interact with the art work using the VR stuff. When we went, a Saturday, there was a market out the back that was also not great but had quite nice curry and samosas available there.
