This experience was so special- Mr. Sylvester brings a deep knowledge of the history of the area but also personal history and perspective that really moved us. I can’t recommend this tour enough!

Amazing tour of civil rights and blues history starting in Jackson, MS. This is an authentic tour by the Hoover's who grew up in the Delta in the early 60's Sylvester and his wife Mary, shared their own personal lives experience with us. They brought us through Greenwood, Clarksdale and finally Memphis where we visited both blues history and civil rights sites and museums. They personalized the tour based on our interest in both civil rights and blue. We highly recommend this tour and seeing everything through the eyes of Sylvester and Mary made the tour very personal and real. We can't thank them enough for sharing their knowledge with us. It's an experience you will never forget.

Take this Tour! If you do nothing else in the area, take this tour! First, know that Sylvester is indeed vaccinated, and he will wear a mask in his van. You wear your mask, too, to protect Sylvester — he is a gem that is worthy of protection!
During this tour, Sylvester will drive you to various sites around the Greenwood area all the while, weaving the narrative of the Jim Crow south. He delivers his message with conviction and with love. He truly follows the rule to love your neighbor as yourself. He stayed in the Delta to be the light and change the area so desperately needs. We learned so much and were swept with emotions at so many of his stories. Sylvester is amazing and I feel so fortunate to have met him. I’m still thinking about this tour a week later. It has had such an impact on me. We’ve been to most all the Civil Rights places in the country. Greenwood’s narrative just tied everything together. The price is $75 per person and is worth double that. You need to call him to set up a tour date. He was prompt and picked us up at our hotel.

On our road trip through Mississippi my friends and I took Sylvester's approximately 3 hour tour which covered both the civil rights history and blues heritage of Greenwood and the Delta (especially the legendary Robert Johnson) with honesty, depth, and humor from the perspective of someone who grew up in and stayed in this heart of the Delta for the past 60 years. My companions and I learned so much. Greenwood the town is worth a stop and Sylvester's presentation is way beyond just "worthwhile". So glad we took it and we agree with comments by other reviewers who gave him a "5". Go!

Sylvester’s tour is awesome! Give him a call to set it up and stop by his store for a great and personal tour. He has many first and secondhand stories about many different people, including Robert Johnson. You visit a few Robert Johnson/Civil Rights sites, and he knows so much about so many different things in the delta

Sylvester is a lovely man and it was great to make his acquaintance! He picked up up at our hotel and took is to Baptist Town where his shop and museum are. Then off to other fascinating locations associated with Robert Johnson. We even crossed the Tallahatchie Bridge on the way to The Little Zion Church.
It's not a cheap tour but worth every $. Keep it up Sylvester!

We chanced upon this tour while planning our road trip and boy are we glad we did. Sylvester told us his story , intermingled with the birth of the Blues with Robert Johnson. A genuine and gentle man we listened and experienced what life was like for him and his family, visited historically important sites and absolutely came away humbled, shocked and enlightened. These stories need to be heard.
We've read other reviews saying Best Tour ever and highlight of our Tour.... We concur. We've told our friends and we're happy to tell you - this is a must not miss experience.

We are so grateful we discovered Sylvester Hoover's tour. Taking us around various Greenwood neighborhoods and telling us stories about his life as well as the lives of legendary blues musicians, he helped us understand the conditions that produced the blues--among them the hard, hard lives of sharecroppers in the Delta. Given that he gave us a four-hour tour, it was well worth the cost. In addition, we had the honor of spending several hours with a soulful, knowledgeable, large-hearted man. Do yourself a favor and take this tour.

My sister from Chicago had very good time Had not been to the Mississippi Delta in over 25 years they really enjoyed the experience of Mississippi DeltaThey learn so much more about the Mississippi Delta blues and civil rights history
