Short walk from the parking lot to the creek side trail overshadowed by cliffs and tall yellow pines. Trail has a mild incline and continues back country with a panorama of views.

Stopped for a hike before I had to fly home. I'm so glad I squeezed this in. What a treasure. I would call this moderately challenging, but even a mile out and back will reveal incredible scenery.

Lovely location but be prepared to hike some inclines - it is not a flat easy trail. But I did go a short ways and enjoyed it - there are usually plenty of people and ones with dogs so the didn't see any wildlife

The trail was so beautiful to hike! There are places to go down to the water but it is freezing! The trail isn’t too hard but is long. We will return

My wife and I decided to take a hike up the kootenai creek trail on a sunday afternoon, what a beautiful trail. You hike alongside the creek which was awesome. We hiked about 4 miles in before heading back as it was getting late. Weather was great and no mosquitoes!! It was a moderate hike but nothing extreme, narrow in spots but not to many people on the trail no issues with getting around anyone else. Lots of shade on the way up and plenty of spots to take some great pics. I would highly recommend this hike if you happen to be heading down the Bitterroot Valley. Its just the north side of Stevensville.

We happened upon this trail quite by accident as we were driving from Seattle, WA to Missoula, MT.

When we stopped, we found that there are two trails: one to the swinging bridge and one to the falls. Since we had limited time we could only hike one trail, so we chose to hike the one to the bridge. It was a beautiful, cool morning and a lovely walk although there were many rocks on the path to avoid. I cannot imagine this being a good trail to bike. The swinging bridge was fun!

At the trail head, there was a very nice snack bar with a delightful young lady staffing it.

I've run this trail numerous times. Good tree cover during hot days with a few nice spots to sit by the creek.

Moderate incline. Watch for possible horse traffic. Dogs enjoy the walk as well. Several places to stop and enjoy the scenery.

One of the best things about the Kootenai Creek trail is that if you can walk upright, even for short distances, you will not be disappointed. Within 300 or 400 yards of the trailhead lot, you are immersed into the comforting roar and awesome visuals of Kootenai Creek, running just beside and below the pathway. The farther you hike, the more varied the scenery from overhanging cliffs to grassy meadows to raging waterchutes to mellower pools to shadowy cool tree cover to stark rockfalls and with a huge variety of flora of all manner in the mix. The trail has a few stretches in the first few miles that can be a little foot-tricky, so be sure to wear appropriate footgear. The trail meanders up and down from the creek level, and in early June the melt had the water blasting down the canyon, meaning little opportunity for wading or watering the pet - so bring plenty of water along. Frankly, if you don't love hiking this trail, you won't ever be a hiker. It's gorgeous, invigorating, resplendent, soothing and inspiring all in one package. Do it. Do it now.
