If you love cycling and want a safe but visually stimulating ride---then this is for you. It was designed keeping cyclists in mind.

a 34 mile loop that take you to lake Meade, if you go CW you ride the three sisters hills. it takes several hours to ride, lots of hills and great views. bring plenty of water. one can ride portions of the loop or take it CCW to bolder city. the entire trail is paved and no vehicles. not for beginners.

You don't have to do the entire loop (about 35 miles) to have a great time. I started out going clockwise from the Lake Mead entry station and did and out and back of about 8 miles. Not very much activity the day I rode and great views of Lake Mead and the surrounding mountains & desert. You can access the loop at multiple locations depending upon where you are coming from and if you are in good physical condition take the railway tunnel trail to the Dam. Awesome.

The River Mountain Loop Trail, all 34 miles of it, including 16.7 miles in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, is Nevada's first endeavor of its kind. Constructed through the combined efforts of many of the state's resource management agencies, private land partners and citizens, this non-motorized trail provides locals and out-of-state visitors with an outdoor loop trail offering scenic views, plentiful wildlife and the vast beauty of the Mojave Desert. Completed in 2012, it is a popular destination for hikers and road cyclists, even horseback riders. Located at 2800 Great Basin Highway near Henderson, the Loop Trail surrounds the River Mountains connecting Lake Mead Recreation Area, Hoover Dam, Henderson, Boulder City and the rest of the Las Vegas Valley. The River Mountains are particularly interesting because two extinct volcanoes have been identified as the source of lava discovered in the area that is 12 to 15 million years old. One is located north of Boulder City while the other, called Lava Butte, is in the northern part of the River Mountains.

Has many trail heads. Has views of Lake Mead. Transverses Henderson and Boulder City. Take it to the Railroad Pass Casino, Bootleg Canyon (to hike) or to the Nevada Southern Railway in Boulder City and ride a Rail Bike. A cart, where you use your feet and ride ON the rail road tracks.

Close by hiking in Henderson. Was windy the day we went, so dress accordingly. Trails were not marked well. We wanted to go up to a top place to see vista, but never found a way up. No trail map posted at trailhead.

We started our ride near Lake Las Vegas. I belive we were on the Lake Mead Parkway, then crossed under the highway and hooked up to the River Mountains Loop. We did this clockwise. I was dreading the 3 sisters and to be honest I found that portion easier (again clockwise) than from Alan Bible Center/Lake Mead to Bootleg Canyon. This section was an ongoing climb for several miles. Anyhow lived to tell the story and looks like we are doing this ride again in a couple days. What a wonderful trail looping through the desert. I always thought the desert was flat....OMG I was so wrong.

Amazing views, challenging terrain, tools and bike work stations, away from vehicle traffic. No better place to ride.

This is a 34 mile loop trail that is all pathed and no traffic. there are many trailheads, most people ride it CW and there are the famous 3 Sisters (hills). once you do all 3 sisters there is a rather easy Mother-in-law to do. at this point is it downhill from Lake Las Vegas down to Lake Mead, then back up. it is not for beginners.

We are planning to visit the trail by July 8th. Being aware of the heat and other dangers, would this trail be still fully accessible? What are some, or the most recommended, items to bring?
Skrevet 28. juni 2015
This should be full accessible, once you start on the trail, there are limited places to bail out for shade or cold drinks.
I would recommend that you go very early in the morning with the heat, take plenty of water, probably double what you would normally take, I start out with 200 ounces. Be off the trail before it hits 105, that's the limit for me.
You should be aware of sources of water and stores close to the trail, the ones I frequent are Rail Road Pass (inside), the Equestrian Trailhead, the store/gas station by the Heminway Park, just past St. Judes, then there is store down by the lake/camping area just past the Lake Meade Entrance-Boulder Beach-Lake Meade Village Campground GPS N 36° 2’ 16.7” W 114° 48’ 7.2”
Check out the River Mountain LOOP Trail website you can see water on the map, though it is a little hard to see.
Have a great time! :)
