We didn't camp here, we just used their day use area at the end of the short gravel road to the left as you go in. The Little Red Deer River runs through this park, and there is a very short walking trail along it, on the campground side of the park. In the summer, there's enough water in the river so that many people enjoy putting in kayaks or dinghies and enjoy a nice, safe float. I don't know how far they go, however. This area is ultra quiet, being far from any major highway or settlement, and yet has a good paved road to it. We enjoyed our little walk and saw a lot interesting birds and bugs!

Like the location, size and privacy of sites, try to stay away from the road and traffic.
Facilities need some care & attention only 2 out of 4 showers working.
Outhouses needed care and garbages emptied daily....

My family spent 4 days out at Red Lodge Provincial Park, It's along little red deer river.
The sites are well treed, bathrooms are clean. Beaches are rocky and small. Not an area to build sandcastles, more to launch yourself into the river for floating/tubing. It was quite shallow and My teens and I could walk in the river some parts as shallow as your ankle and other areas were upwards towards your neck. I'm not sure how the rest of the river is. You need to wear some type of water shoe as the bottom is rocky.
We found some fresh water clams as well.
Lots of trails to walk and birds. The kids park is a good size and newer, there is a large field around it for other sports to play and couple horse shoe pits.
We had lots of room with a 36ft 5th wheel trailer and our truck. We were in C- loop, not to crowded.

We stayed for three days in the beginning of July. We were in site C44. I thought the sites were way too close together. Its not as treed and private as the other loops. However, we had power where the other loops did not. The campground is also close to highway 587 so you can hear the traffic driving by clearly.
The park is wonderful for the kids. Big and fairly new. The walking and biking paths are very pleasant, and there is a slow moving stream behind the campground that you can swim or float in. We really enjoyed this part of the campground. The banks are mostly sand - not rocky at all when you enter the water.
Overall the campground is very quiet and peaceful - except for the ravens and crows that like to do a wake up call at the crack of dawn. We will come back and stay in the F loop.

Just 15 km from Bowden Alberta on HWY 587, this campground has been on our bucket list for a few years. Other attractions within a short drive are the Glennifer Reservoir and James River. The campground has outhouses thought but also has a newer and very clean shower house with flush toilets near the four group campsites located between loop C and D. Reservations are accepted in loops A, B and C. Loop D is first-come first-served. The sites are well-treed and fairly private. Some are extremely large and could be occupied by multiple RVs. Loop C sites have 15 or 30 amp power. The campground office stocks firewood and snacks. A campground volunteer coordinates crafts or an interpretive program on Saturday. There is a playground. As some other reviewers have mentioned, some people fish along the Little Red Deer River which borders the campsites. Most loops have some sites with direct river access. A far more common past time seems to be floating down the river on inflatables. It was common for family groups to be spread over two or three sites. However, we stayed for 10 days and they were multiple occasions when we found ourselves next to groups of 20+ staying in a single campsite. I would recommend that campground staff monitor the number of people/camping units on each site more closely. Many of the families who camp here would not do well camping in bear country as the sites were often left with garbage and food lying out 24/7.

Nice private sites with lots of trees. Nice trails along river with people fishing. Nice central playground. Fun interpretive backpacks from the staff. Easy geocache in area. Wish there was a flush toilet and place to wash dishes.

Well established campground with drinking water available! Spacious and accommodating! Our campsite was big enough to fit two trailers!

Anyone know if the campground actually flooded or if it was evacuated/closed just in case of flooding? Can't get ahold of anyone at the campground and voicemail says they will reopen June 22nd which has now passed with same voicemail message. Thanks!
Skrevet 27. juni 2022
Yes, the river is right beside the campground. It is slow moving and shallow. There are paths throughout the campground you can walk very easily to the river access area.

understand you have specified drinking water stations. However, for an RV, is there also water hookups available?
Skrevet 17. august 2016
There is a water station in the C loop you can pull your RV up to hook up and add water. Or if you get a spot close by you can run a long hose to the water faucet and fill. We did that in the C loop. I do not know if the other loops have the same set up.
