This is a hike not for the beginner hiker. As someone in late 60's you have to be in good shape and be prepared to be out on the mountain for at least 8 hours. We hiked counter clockwise from Diana's Bath. We went up the Moat Trail and found about 1 1/2 miles of rock slab to climb which luckily was dry. It's a steady climb through pine forests from Diana's Bath until you hit the rock. The views even mid way up the mountain are exceptional and worth the hike. Plan to enjoy the summit. We took the Red Ridge Trail down (3.6 miles) which was very different than going up. Here there was a lot of boulders to climb down, loose rock and scree. There was a couple of water crossings that were easy and place for the dog to cool off.

Love this hike! Started at Pasaconaway Road, spotted a car at Diana’s bath, about an 8 hour walk with enough upping and downing to require you be in good shape. Trail affords a variety of terrains, keeps it interesting (fair bit of ledge in some places which would be too interesting for my taste on wet days.) Many places along the traverse with 270 or 360 degree views, spectacular on a clear fall day. Recommend layers (COLD winds above the tree line, needed base+shirt+fleece+wind proof shell and hat and gloves) and sticks for the way down. In a few spots blazes were sparse, we had to explore/backtrack to find the trail twice but only for a few minutes. Recommend this hike!

Hiked to top from parking area labeled “Diana’s Baths” just off the Kancamangus Highway. Followed Moat Mountain Trail. Starts off with gentle grade and wide path with excellent footing. About 4 miles to top of North Moat. Trails gets steep toward top but does not involve scrambling. Lots of blueberry bushes loaded with berries. Great view from top in all directions. One of the best in the White Mountains. We continued along trail toward Middle Moat. Lots of steep descents down walls. Not technical - I saw two small dogs do it. After about a mile of descent we branched off on left down Red Ridge Trail. Beautiful walk down mostly exposed ledge with excellent views and blueberries. Easy walking down to parking lot. Total miles: about 10. Total time: 3 hours up to North Moat and about 4 hours back down to parking lot.

Taking the trails offers more than 1 path to go on for however long or short a hike that you want to take. We went at the end of June and were really glad to have taken our mosquito netted jackets. The bugs were bad.

I would take the time if I were you for the views of Moat Mountain. When in North Conway or the Conway area there are many trails and mountains to hike and this is another beauty. Not to difficult and the view is worth the trail hike!

Great hike! Lots of steep to this climb, but the view from the top is so worth it! Of course Mt. Washington had some clouds obscuring it, but the rest of the range was beautiful. Take your time on this climb, there are two very steep sections, followed by a little less steep, then a steep section to the summit. Great day of hiking,

Plenty of parking at the trail head. The trail starts out pretty mellow. It gets more strenuous as you gain elevation. Awesome 360 views from the top and some along the way. Be prepared for a few rocky scrambles. Bring your poles if you like.

Moat Mountain has a great atmosphere, with good selection of craft beers. Unfortunately, the chicken wings were some of the worst I've had, and pizza was subpar. Would go again to try BBQ, I guess that's there specialty.

My whole family loved their dinner tonight. Awesome steak, honey mustard chicken, sliders and nachos. You can always tell a good restaurant when it serves salad with real leafy greens instead of iceberg. Portions are huge. Loved this place!
