Thoroughly enjoyed this visit. Cross between a house tour and art gallery as it represents house an artist and his family lived. Not so heavy on the history, but enough to get a sense - and these were improtant early figures in the Taos art scene. The house itself (which 'grew' organically as owners purchased adjacent 'rooms') feels wonderfully liveable - at least I would be perfectly at home there, even today. You're pretty muchon your own to wander through, but the desk person will engage and answer questions. Expansive gift shop if you wish to part with serious money. (Most expensive magnet I've ever bought - foolish) Well worth a stop. Same street as the rather less engaging Harwood.

Any time I can visit an artist’s home, I’m all over it. This one was particularly interesting. The adobe home, a series of connecting rooms, was purchased and expanded over several years as other families moved on and the Blumenschein’s could buy that space and incorporate it into their own home. Art by E.L. Blumenschein, his wife, Mary Greene Blumenschein, and their daughter, Helen Greene Blumenschein, is on display throughout the home as are personal belongings and furniture. This is a unique opportunity to see an authentic, historic adobe home as well as some great art. There is a gift shop, but I don’t think there are any rest rooms.

One of the most beautiful and interesting places in Taos. The house, from the late 1800s/early 1900s, sprawls around its plot every which way, making it fun to roam around, and features lovely furnishings and artwork from several decades (we have a framed print of one of the paintings in our family room). The house is about two blocks from the Old Town square on a street of galleries. Part of what you should come to Taos to see.

It is the family home of Ernest and Mary Blumenschein and their daughter, Helen. All of whom were the accomplished artists. It is very interesting to see how they lived and socialized. We were blown away by the Mary’s art. She was every bit as accomplished an artist as any member of the male only Taos Society of Artists. In fact she was the second American woman to win a Gold Medal at the Paris Salon (the first was Mary Cassat). Unfortunately, once in Taos, her work became secondary to promoting her husbands art. The large collection of her work, alone, makes the visit worthwhile.

This museum helped me make sense of the art scene in Taos and the magic that has drawn so many artists there. After walking around the plaza area and visiting several galleries, including the colorful and popular Inger Jirby Gallery across the street, we walked through the rooms of the Blumenschein house and learned about the lives of Blumenschein and his family, and about the origin of the art colony. It all traces back to an accident in a horse-drawn wagon back in 1898! Blumenschein is a fascinating man of many talents, including violin, tennis and bridge. The house is beautifully and simply furnished. You can see several paintings by both Ernest and by his wife Mary. Check out Ernest's painting of the fish on the outside of a door to the courtyard. Apparently, he was a good fisherman too, and proud of it!

I was amazed at the size of all the building in Taos. Each road and street was one where my Grandparents walked and befriended the Artist who lived there in the early 1920's My Dad was born in what is now a restaurant etc. Most important we were able to give back to the community paintings which have been gifted to our family years before. We even toured the Pueblos which are pictured often and are still lived in now!

This small home converted into a museum has original furnishings and an array of quality, local art. It is a really good introduction to the Taos art scene.

A blast from the past walking through this lovely preserved setting. Original furniture and artwork to enjoy and a knowledgeable docent to answer your questions.

This was a very interesting peek into the century old home and artist world of Taos that has led to the present day reputation of the ambience of Taos.

This was a wonderful experience--where the Taos Artist Society began which is historically interesting, but the art is less present than the home itself which is expertly cared for, and restored and full of the feeling of these lives lived in another time. Good attention to matierial culture--the ancient floorboards, the old adobe walls, the cozy rooms and furniture, the books and objects, were quite evocative. There is one room which feels more recently renovated, which is the painting studio --they have recent Taos artist works in there which was too bad becasue I would have like to see that room shown as it was, but basically I very much enjoyed this home.
