What an amazing place. The number of Boabab trees was astonishing.there were very few animals about but we managed to observe a couple of jackal. Unfortunately there were a lot of flies when we were there. Well worth the effort to get there. Amazing sunset and sunrise.

The drive from Nata took 4 hours, don't take to first route. Very deep sand and ruts. No problem but exhausting.
Arrived to find the place full of rubbish and many flies that just don't leave you alone.
The long drops have clearly had no regular maintenance as there were stacks of bottles full of urine.
Just because they are long drops doesn't mean the toilet part shouldn't be clean.
Too tired and irritating by flies to enjoy the place at all.
Noisy very large group next to us. We forfeited our 2nd night, drove to Gweta, got a pitch at Planet Baobab, lovely. No flies. Road to labelled bad road on T4A, not such a bad road but terrible to navigate as the villagers have built over the tracks and cows have obliterated any sign of tracks.

Wanted to do a day drive to Kubu Island. Took ages in the trust office to pay and get access. The computers weren't working and we tried to help them. Then we drove to the lookout deck. This was in a shocking state of repair. The wood planks were rotten and it was badly designed so a tall person like in our party hit his head on a part of a jutting out roof structure as you got to the top of the staircase. The road ahead looked rocky, and this first part was so disappointing we decided not to go any further. When we got back to the office to tell them we were departing there was a new Manager that we were introduced to. We explained our experience and he was surprised, but also admitted that he had never been down the road. Only been in the office. For one of Botswana main attractions this really needs to be addressed.

We read about a place that is supposed to be magical and beautiful. Even the journey by car over the salt pans is supposed to be very mystical. We drove almost 120 km from Gweta on a very bumpy and sandy track through the bush. You only drive very short distances on the salt pans. When we arrived, we paid €20 per person per night. The campsites, twelve in total, are all on the land side and do not have a view of the salt pans. There is little shade and there are no showers. People are also happy to do without the outhouse and unfortunately the bushes turned out to be public toilets. In the morning you are woken up by helicopters flying around Kubu Island. Kubo Island has become an Instagram hotspot that is anything but magical. It is not worth a trip for a photo of a construction site. Our return journey then took us to Nata. This route was even more terrible and bumpy than the route from Gweta.

During our Epic Trans-Africa self-drive adventure in a 4L 4-Wheel Drive Land Cruiser with the Tent on the Roof we visited this place.

I had managed to squeeze in a ONE night stop to capture the Sights - Complete with my Camera Gear, Lenses Combinations, Videos Cameras, iPADs, iPODs, and Tripods, I was ready for the Photo Opp to beat the band.

I did not bargain on spending 4 hrs rescuing 3 x 30 something Knuckleheads in a 2-Front-Wheel drive White Toyota, from out on the mud flats, way off the clear heavily used and marked hard surface tracks, where they had got stuck after doing some donuts. I will refrain from profanity and vulgar language, but it is tough.

Shovel, Sand Tracks, Tow Rope, Winch, Logs and Sticks were ALL put to good use. Thank you to the Aussie who came to help too - I do not recall your name.

I did not get a Single Shot of that Sunset or Night Sky, or, for that matter, a simple Thank You. Incredible, but true. Some Folks really should stay Home.

Why did I do it ? Believe me I have asked myself that Question a hundred times. Guess I must be getting soft.

Site - Cool.
Ablutions - fine for where you are.
Catering - Self
Essential - Total self-sufficiency
Accommodation - Tent and slept like an exhausted log
Driving - Tough but not impossible (we were in the Dry Season)

In Summary - rated Excellent because the experience was just that. The Rescue Issue was not Kubbu Island's fault. Just irresponsible birdbrains.

I'm just absolutely gobsmacked that this place has such high reviews. People go to Botswana to see wildlife and they usually have to drive pretty far to the campsites, This drive took it to all new levels unforeseen for the whole world. Not only getting there really sucked, the signs lie about how many kilometers it takes to get there (72 km sign says actually 100 km!) and on the tire got awful drive there was no wildlife , but just cattle and lots of it!. I should have read the description before you attempted to get there. Seriously whose world travelers itinerary is to see a bunch of rocks and fossilized bird poop?! No thanks so I turned around and went to another campsite more to my taste. On top of that, a friend of ours went there and said there's no ablutions and the wind was so bad that they had to physically hold the tent all night long so it wouldn't blow away and there were two strangers that drove around the camp at 2:00 a.m. in a pickup truck. This is the worst campsite of all of Botswana. I don't get these people thinking it's good. It is God awful. If you want to see a bunch of cattle and drive to eternity for something that serves absolutely no point other than a lot of wind no water, ablutions ( not even those buckets you fill) and no toilet then to each his own

Klimaanlage, guter Service.

We visited 25 years ago and were amazed again about the beauty of this utterly remote place. It is surely worth a visit once in a lifetime. Very sad that elephants have damaged some of the ancient Baobab trees. The reception area was deserted, but staff came to collect our camping fee, as we had not booked. The pit toilets were amazingly clean and water in big containers are provided for flushing. There is no water or electricity available, so you have to be totally selfsufficient. Your vehicle is your lifeline here and should be in a good condition as a breakdown may result in waiting days for other vehicles to pass. Roads are only tracks but in reasonable condition this time of the year, as many vehicles have compacted the tracks. Do NOT attemt to visit in the rainy season or shortly after when pans are tsill wet, you WILL certainly get stuck !!

We have travelled all over Botswana and this was our favourite sight until now. We had the chance of being alone there. We drove there ourselves, 4WD, lousy gps but an app brought us there without a problem
