Disappointing when we got here as it’s undergoing a massive renovation. It’s still worth a look at the grounds.

House was built in 1797 as a cattle keepers house. Now under a $2,000,000 restoration by The Town of East Hampton. Hopefully it will be ready for visitation by 2021.

What a lovely small museum. The curator of the Montauk Native American Museum was inviting and very gracious. The collection is wonderful and a must see!

We stumbled on the Montauk Native American Museum and are so glad we did. This is place is a valuable homage to the original Americans, who are ofter remembered only in Hollywood stereotypes and the names of places from which they have beed displaced. The manager of this small space is smart, informed, informative and this for him is a labor of love. Visit, learn enjoy.

Our three grandchildren were out for the weekend and we were out and about town on an overcast day. We visited the Montauk Indian Museum just to check it out. Little did we know that this small house would open our eyes to our local history. The kids were fascinated by the beautiful murals and Larry Cook, the curator was as patient and informative as he could possibly have been. Asking and answering questions, fueling their imagination with stories of wooly mammoths and giant beavers and just being a great guy. We had a wonderful visit and don’t forget to check out the wigwam outside!

We were staying in Montauk for a week - and have been for several years. This trip we decided we were overdue for a visit to the Indian Museum. So we planned to be there Thursday at Noon when it opened. We walked up to the entrance and were met by the owner who introduced himself. He welcomed us into his gorgeous museum and asked us to sit with him while he introduced himself and told us a bit about his background. The museum is beautiful! In one room he has glad case displays, wall murals, a gorgeous painting of a Native American. The artifacts were collected from various sites in Montauk as well as the North Shore Lawrence was pleasant, very knowledgable and interesting to talk to. I highly recommend this museum for anyone who wants to learn more about Indians who were indigenous to Long Island. Until next year! We'll see you again.

My mother and I decided to go for a walk around Shadmoor State Park and then check out this museum after our walk. We were honored to have found a real authentic arrowhead on a dirt path! When we brought it to the museum Lawrence was very helpful and enthusiastic about our discovery! It was so meant to be! My mother and I enjoyed our visit and enjoyed learning about Lawrence’s journey. The museum was small, clean, informative, and welcoming. Highly recommend anyone to stop and enjoy this space, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Lovely books and t-shirts for sale too! There was no admission, but We were more than happy to donate to this space in the hopes that it will continue to inspire others to hunt for treasure and educate others in the reality of what used to be here before colonization.

The director escavated the Indian arrow heads himself. He's a true conservationist. He's a retired firefighter who also helped with rescue efforts after 9/11

I couldn't improve on the review offered by my eight-year old child:

"The Montauk Historical Society's American Indian Museum is very poor. The artifacts are not even from Native American times. There are just a couple of beads on a string and some pieces of stone and wood. The person running it is very rude, especially to children."

Seriously, this sums it up nicely. Don't waste your money (the admission charge is preposterous). It's sad that the wonderful Montauk Historical Society have associated themselves with the self-righteous, hectoring charlatan who ostensibly curates this (tiny) space. Save your dollars for the truly lovely Montauk Point Lighthouse, whose staff are knowledgeable, attentive and charming.

We enjoyed coming here over the weekend. What a great day out with the entire family! There is so much to see and then you can make a day of it with all the other sites available in Montauk.
