Disappointed, no masks
sep. 2020
This park was really great, beautiful setting and nice trails. However, not one person at the playground had on a mask, since our visit it is listed as Covid-19 hotspot. Very disappointing, grandchildren could not play . Wait til 2022 to go!

Christmas Tour of House and Marketplace
des. 2018 • Par
Visited this house during the one day Christmas House Tour and Market. The house is located on beautiful grounds with a fantastic water view, which unfortunately was obscured by fog and rain on our visit. This colonial house was decorated for Christmas, with costumed guides available for questions. This is a self guided tour of two floors of the rather small house. Downstairs in the rustic basement vendors were selling various items. There were also some vendors in the Visitors Center. Unfortunately the market was not as large as I had hoped. However, the visit made for a nice afternoon and the $3 per person donation went to this very worthwhile fundraiser. A piece of history kept alive!

Nice place to take a stroll

Nice area, not much offered. Nice beach access by the park. The house itself is a little interesting. The gardens are small. There was a meeting here that accomplished nothing.
Other then that you have an old house and a nice hunk of land.

Walking trails all around the Conference House.

You can either walk, run or bike along the trails. The exhibits are always very interesting and they change often. Right now they have a Daughters of the Revolution exhibit. The Conference House sits up on a hill overlooking the Arthur Kill Waterway. Very peaceful place to sit and walk around.

A Very Historic Spot

The Billop House or Conference House is a wonderful spot to visit. Steeped in history with beautiful surroundings, you can spend an afternoon relaxing and viewing the house and grounds. Take Hylan Blvd to Tottenville at the southernmost end of the island and enjoy. Recommend.

during the american revolution, ben franklin and his team did shanghai the british while meeting here. period rooms and artifacts are in tact. biggest reservations, though, is that is located a good 75 minute bus or train ride from si ferry, and hours are erratic.. check before making the voage.

The Conference House and the surrounding site is worth exploring. Walking on the trails by the visitors center was really relaxing, right on the waterfront, even saw a friendly groundhog and this is NYC...LOL! The Conference House was a $4 admission and we got a personal tour by an older couple, main-floor, upstairs and ground-floor basement.House was built 1675 and had Revolutionary peace conference on Sept. 11, 1776. With Edward Rutledge, John Adams, Lord Howe and Benjamin Franklin attendance among others, but the conference failed. Owned & Occupied by a Torry named Captain Christopher Billopp, was called Billopp house, really a beautiful estate. Wonderful views! Must See...

A chore to get to, but a very nice tour
aug. 2017 • Alene
I used public transportation to get around New York, That worked well most of the time, but it was quite a chore to get to the extreme southern end of Staten Island. The options are basically taking the Staten Island Railroad to the end of the line and then following the rather complicated walking directions given on the Conference House's website or taking an express bus from the end of a subway line in Brooklyn and then transferring to a local bus. (The bus ends up about a block away from the building, but it takes longer.) It doesn't help that the place is open very limited hours, so you need to time things carefully.

That said, it was worth the effort to come here. The woman who gave me my tour was both knowledgeable and friendly. She did a good job of describing both life in colonial days and the specific historical importance of this particular building. I'm glad I came.
