With Geneva on the northern shore and Watkins Glen anchoring the southern shore, it is about a 70 mile trip around the gorgeous Seneca Lake that is loaded with wineries, breweries and distilleries. We were staying in Montour Falls, a mile south of Watkins Glen, so we concentrated on the southeastern side of Seneca on an 18 mile stretch from approximately Lodi down to Watkins Glen. You will also come across so many scenic spots and beauty like Hector and Shequaga Falls. We were only there for 2 days, and we managed to hit 2 wineries and 7 breweries. Each place had their own unique character, with our favorite being 2 Goats Brewery and their incredible one and only Beef on Weck sandwich. Wagner Vineyards was a nice one stop shop with a vineyard, brewery, gift shop and restaurant/cafe in their complex. It would be nice to take a week and visit all of Seneca. It sure would also be fun to take an entire month and hit the other main Finger Lakes, Cayuga, Keuka, Canandaigua and Skaneateles Lakes

Totally enjoyed the Seneca Lake Reel Tours on the Seneca Lake. We did the 4:00 p.m. 90 minute cruise and it was great, especially since we were staying on the North of Seneca Lake. We met some local farmers on the boat which added to our great experience.

Seneca Lake has scores of wineries (as well as breweries and distilleries) and if you like wine, it shouldn't be missed. The quality of wine in the Finger Lakes has improved dramatically in the past several decades, with top notch single vineyard wines as well as excellent blends. Most popular are rieslings, but they also grow Pinots, Chardonnay, and others as well.

My husband and I were very excited to visit the wineries in the Walkins Glen area but it was such a disappointment. We expected a better experience than what we had. We visited 7 wineres along the way. We felt rushed in an out of these wineries. Prices were high for what they gave you and we felt it was not worth it! View was beautiful but that was about it.. Wines were not that great either! Such a disappointment

Grab a designated driver and hit as many wineries as you can. My favorites were Fulkerson, Lakewood, Magnus Ridge, and Toast. They all have good wines and are not expensive.

So many wineries to visit and so little time! Just about any winery you choose will give you a great experience. Many have beautiful outdoor decks with views of the lake, but all have tasty wines. Of course, don't forget to taste the Dry Riesling wherever you go.

Was first time visiting since COVID.
This used to be a wonderful, inexpensive way to spend a few days tasting wine and enjoying the vineyards.
Now, with the jacked up tasting prices of $10 to $14 and a pre-selected wine flight, which pigeon holes you into tasting strict white or strict reds, the great experience has been lost.
Ok, you have to make a profit on those tasting because you can now only serve X number of guests instead of packing them in, but what a rip off.
And NO not everyone likes being given tasting and told to go sit outside and taste away. There is inter action, no information on what I am tasting.
If I wanted to go to a wine bar I would go to a wine bar!!
And it is not a state law that tasting HAVE TO BE FLIGHTS. I was to another NY winery and they had both flights and bar tastings. GIVE THIS WINERY A BIG THANK YOU!!!!!!

Cincinnati, Ohio
There are 4 couples , 8 people and we want to visit Seneca Lake wineries and attractions and restaurants, We are coming in from Cincinnati Ohio and we can drive into Watkins Glen on the south side of the lake or fly into Harrisburg and go into the north side of the lake.
There are really no airports to go into the south side right?
Can you recommend a place for 8 to stay that would be o the trail? it can be a B&B or nice hotel/motel. Will wineries take in 8 people for a tasing?
Skrevet 5. september 2022
I can’t help with places to stay because we were at a campground. The wineries can definitely take 8 people.

Is it possible to get an Uber from Rochester airport to Watkins glen? If so, how much would be the cost?
Skrevet 20. april 2021
Planning a week here July 5-12. What is the status on wine tasting right now?
Skrevet 13. juni 2020
What with the world spinning on a tilted axis, I have no idea what the tastings might be. It is a beautiful area though, I hope you enjoy it and als get some tastings!

We will be traveling along the western shore of Seneca Lake, Would like to visit as many wineries as possible.
Skrevet 13. oktober 2019
Start on Route 414 in Watkins Glen. Get some cannoli before heading onward...many many wineries...at least 30 along 414...get map online, just Google...suggest Boundary Breaks for Cab Franc plus it's a little off the route, so a fun adventure and not crowded...Lamoreaux for excellent friendly tastings...Three Brothers, like 3 wineries in one...

My husband and I are going to be near Ithaca the first weekend of Oct. Can you bike around the Seneca Lake Wine Trail or it is best to drive? We are looking for some bike trails other than the Waterfront Trail.
Skrevet 24. september 2019
Sounds exciting! You can bike anywhere & we love to as well however, it depends on your level of comfort with narrow roads and steeper inclines. If you do opt to bike the Seneca Lake Wine trail, which is awesome and interspersed with breweries and distilleries, I would start on the west side as the roads are wider and have wide shoulders as well. For maximum enjoyment of the wine trail however, I would recommend driving and do make a point of visiting Hermann J. Wiemer vineyards first - it is a stellar experience of the finest of Finger Lakes wines. Enjoy!

My wife and I are planning a trip to finger lakes in mid October and want to be central to all these places. Want to hike and bike and eat, of, of course, wineries and music at night also
Suggestions please! Thanks so much in advance

Congratulations on choosing such scenic & eclectic area to visit; it is one of our favorites! I would recommend staying at The Harbor Hotel in Watkins Glen and don't miss hiking the gorge at Watkins Glen State Park. There are at least 19 waterfalls to weave over & under & "not to miss" photo opps. On the west side of the lake, I would highly recommend visiting Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyards/Winery first for some of Seneca Lake's finest wines in an unparalled atmosphere. Another fun spot is Magnus Ridge Winery that offers wine pairings, beer, spirits and food as well as Fox Run Winery.
On the east side make sure to stop at Atwater Winery, Red Newt Cellars & Bistro, Wagner Vineyards & Brewery, Lamoreaux Landing Wine Cellars, Boundary Breaks Vineyard, Finger Lakes Distilling & Two Goats Brewing. They are all distinctive favorites of locals & tourists.
Biking is easiest and scenic on the lower lake roads (closest to the lake and cottages with waterfront access). If you are staying for 3 days or more, I would also suggest trying an Airbnb rental - they are refreshing, lovely & plentiful along the lake. I hope you enjoy an amazing trip!

We are planning a long weekend trip the end of October with our dogs. Any recommendations on wineries that are dog friendly? Thank you!!!
Skrevet 1. september 2019
Hi there, great question! Most wineries are dog-friendly, so you should be pretty well set anywhere you stop. :)

My friends and I are considering taking two days before a business trip in Rochester to explore the finger lakes area and do some wine tasting. Should we stay near Seneca Lake or Cayuga Lake? What hotel or town should we consider to be close to the wineries? The area looks HUGE and none of us have explored this wine region before.
Skrevet 13. juni 2019
We make it a two night trip. There are so many wineries to visit and other attractions in the area. We stay in Geneva and then near Corning or Horseheads the second night. We love to visit Watkins Glenn State Park and Corning Museum of Glass if time allows.
Skrevet 14. juni 2019
My husband and I are planning a trip this August through the area and would like to do the wine trail. Which wineries can someone please recommend for dry red wines? We like dry white sometimes too, but would prefer to stay away from sweet and fruit wines. In addition to this wine trail, are there others in the Finger Lakes area that might have good dry reds to taste? Thank you.
Skrevet 14. april 2019
I agree with Paul. The wonderful thing about the Finger Lakes is the wide variety. Wagner is wonderful, check out Bully Hill too.
