Amazing campground with great views. I was so pleased when I arrived and saw the park. It was so much better than I expected, and I had high hopes! The store was new and clean. The boat ramp was well thought out and was easy to use. Our campsite had Amazing views of the river and even its own peninsula.

Although the park overall and the campsites are the best but they take no pride or to say any care in the restrooms and showers. The neglect and with no attention for at least the first two days of our stay it was so bad the after several complaints a crew finally came and had to power wash and scrub ever room. Absolutely no attention after that. Filthy and no paper. The excuse of we can’t find any workers is a cop out. Everything else is staffed. Worst 10 days stay here in the last 37 consecutive years coming here.

We were recommend Wellesley State Park by friends, as an ideal camping location for the 1000 islands. Unfortunately for us though, this wasn’t the relaxing break we’d hoped for.
This particular park is absolutely ideal for families or large party groups, but if you’re a couple who just want to relax and enjoy the outdoors - this isn’t the place for you.
Whilst the campground area itself is huge, there’s far too many sites crammed together and there’s absolutely no privacy. There’s also not enough amenities to keep up with the influx of people. The bathrooms/showers on our loop weren’t connected to the water supply yet, so everyone from our section was using the next loops.
There are no trash cans/dumpsters at any loops (everyone is required to drive to the main refuse area) and only 1 sink per area for dish washing. Quiet hours didn’t seem to exist, people were running generators and playing loud music at all times of the day/night.
On a positive note, everywhere was dog friendly (including the Nature Centre) but not everyone respected the rules and quite a few campers had their dogs off leash.
We’d originally booked for 3 nights but decided to leave a day early as the extra night wasn’t worth the stay.

Very nice park, great RV locations in the Fox loop. Full hookup. Quiet park close to Alexandria Bay and Clayton as well as Canada.

It was very beautiful. There are plenty of places to relax and eat your picnic or sites for your camper or tent. Very clean and spacious. Loved it. Plan to return next summer

It’s a lovely park. The playgrounds are nice, the Nature Center is exceptional. The campsites on C-Loop are a bit closer than we are used to in State Parks, and not very shady on our site C-46.
The shower near our site needs some maintenance. The low flow head was broken and basically was an open pipe. The push button only kept the stream on for a few seconds. But, the restroom was clean.
We swam at the beach near the marina, which had nice facilities, including a campstore. There were outside showers to rinse off, but not inside showers to actually clean and change back into clean, dry clothes.
My major complaint is the camp store selling kids snorkeling masks that cover nose and eyes, but the Park lifeguards telling us after we bought the item, they are prohibited in the swimming area. Wait, what? I just spent $12 on the mask and you won’t let my kid use it? Not my fault says the lifeguard, I don’t make the rules. So I take the mask back to the store and ask for a refund. The clerk there says, not her fault, and that all refunds have to go to an offsite store called “Nut-N-Fancy”. So I take the mask a couple of miles over there and they refuse to refund the mask, because the mask has been opened. No amount of civil discussion could convince the couple that run the store that it was in their interest to refund the mask. It escalated yo the point that I very nearly got into a fight with the fat old man that owns the store over an item that he probably bought for $5 and sells to unsuspecting customers for $12.
Why would the NY State Park system allow their concessionaire to sell an item at their swim area that can’t be used at that swim area? Why are masks prohibited, but goggles are not? It makes no sense.
Basically, this event really soured me on the park.

This is a huge campground and as far as we could find, almost all of the camp sites were in the sun. The one that we stayed at was large and there was a nice playground a short walk away. We did not take advantage of any of the hiking trails as we only stayed for four days. The beach is on the St. Lawrence River but is very small. It seems that most people go here for boating, fishing and kayaking. We stayed there when the climate was very hot and humid and with our campsite in the sun, it was uncomfortable. There is a nature center that we could not see because we were too late. The hours were only 9:00 to 3:00. Upon driving around the campground, it seems like there are a variety of activities for children. Mostly I gave it 4 stars because we were in the sun and it was not what I anticipated based on the campsite photo. It’s very difficult to get campsites at New York State Campgrounds. People must book them far in advance.

We drove thru the park when visiting the area in mid-May. Due to the time of year, there weren't many campers, but it certainly is a large park. I don't believe the Nature Center was open yet ~ but our drive-thru was primarily a "scouting mission."
One reviewer mentioned geocaching ~ an activity we do ~ so we'll keep it in mind for the future.

In July, it was 55 degrees. Not too shabby when you’re trying to dodge the heat and humidity. From the Nature Center, you may hike 1.3 miles on well-maintained trails to view the glacial potholes. One is 6 feet deep. The other is 15 feet deep. Bring water and snacks. Park at the Nature Center, use the bathroom, and begin your hike.

I did a lot of research and thought I found a great site. Unfortunately, a lot of other people like that site and the surrounding areas. So, several groups of people just made themselves at home and then wandered right through our site. We asked nicely for some space. Then, not as nicely. I called the office and they were nice, but basically said they couldn’t do anything except give us another site. Since, we would’ve had to break camp anyway, we decided to just leave. I wouldn’t go back to that campground ever, for any reason. I’ve never encountered so many self entitled, self centered, rude people. And apparently the families that visit don’t believe in adult supervision, as at least half of these groups were young people. And all of them incredibly rude.

Can rv trailers ( 22 ft) go on loop D or C , or are they just tent sites?

C for sure (coyote) but be prepared for very high density camping. We changed our site to Heron loop after looking at coyote loop. There were so many extra trucks parked on both sides of road that we knew it would be tough getting our trailer into our reserved site. The outside of loop c is better spaced (sites 1-10). Heron is another world. More spacious and quiet.

They have a fantastic hands on nature center, perfect for kids. Also, if you go back to the main intersection and turn right, you will come into TI park, wonderful ice cream parlor..

You would have to check with the park authorities on their regulations. That being said, I believe the that the most important issue with running a generator would be the noise generated that may impact other campers whom have specifically selected an non hydro site so that they can camp using wood or other means of lighting and cooking...

I have heard that the Thousand Island bridge is quite slow during the summer. How much time would it take me to go from Alexandria Bay to the Wellesley Island State Park during the summer?

When we visited the area last July (around Fourth of July, actually), there was very little traffic. So I would not count on being delayed by traffic.

We have reserved sites 70 and 71 for our upcoming trip and I am wondering are these really sutiable for 30+ foot travel trailers? From the pics I saw online, 71 especially looks very close to the road and by no means 40 ft deep as the reserveamerica site describes!
