I grew up here visiting my family. Lucas Mansion is amazing. It was restored by family for generations to enjoy and appreciate. A beautiful home close by was owned by the benefactor of this historic treasure. My mom's cousin Ilene, her family began Pilot Freight.

Had family visiting and wanted someplace to spend some time getting into the history of NC. I had been here before and thought it would be interesting to them. Not a lot of money..we did pay for the guided tour which was well worth it

Tucked away in the NC foothills, the Hiddenite Museum will give you a brief, colorful account of the local history of the area, which still involves gem mining, altho' to a reduced degree. The nice lady who was meeting visitors was full of interesting stories about the mansion (ask about how it got it's third floor) and information about the local eateries and attractions. It's free, and has almost daily hours, so drop by when you're in the neighborhood.

My family stopped in on our monthly day trip and was very impressed with the museum and all three floors of displays. There is so much to see and do and the staff makes you feel like family. I would recommend stopping in it is worth the time.

We happened upon this while in Hiddenite and were drawn to it just because we noticed the large 2 story house and were intrigued by it. The house alone is worth a stop but the displays and exhibits add to the stop.

I’ve seen the sign on I-40 for the Hiddenite Museum and finally went to visit. Lots to see in one stop. The rotating art exhibit at this time was a photography display of beautiful flowers. The gem/mineral display amazes me at the variety found in this area. The doll collection is very extensive. I made 2 rounds of the displays and still couldn’t take it all in. Dolls of every size from all around the world, some even made of wood, porcelain, corn husks. The museum section had so many household furnishings and items from the early 1900’s, the time Diamond Jim Lucas lived there. This is also the county visitor center with a good selection of brochures. Local pottery, jewelry, crafts are available for purchase at reasonable prices.

We just happened to stop by and enjoyed our tour. Every thing that I read keeps talking about a doll collection and I did not see it but there are lots of period pieces. They are for the most part not original to the house but are of the period. The guide was knowledgeable and welcomed additional questions. There are rocks to see as well which is nice since we were in Hiddenite. Worth the visit. I have seen in publications that it is free, but there is a charge...4.00 per person, but worth it.

This is a nice local trip for family and young children. The hours are Monday-Friday 10:00 -4:30 and Saturday 10:00-3:00. Ticket office is in rear. It is for a self-guided tour of a Victorian age mansion . The building has an extensive doll collection and a quilt collection along with many period furnishings. I recommend taking the elevator to the top floor and working your way down. Throughout the year the center has special events.

The Hiddenite Arts & Heritage Center's Lucas Mansion is a unique museum of antiques and collectibles in a mansion that is both Edwardian and Victorian at the same time. It also houses an art gallery which changes often. You can take a guided tour for a small fee, or you can see most of the mansion's offerings for free on your own. It's a cool place to visit.

The mansion itself is interesting. You are able to see a number of things for free such as an area housing dolls and antique toys, an art gallery and a gem exhibit. The ladies in charge are eager to share their knowledge of the premises. It is in a quiet part of town with parking in the driveway. It takes about an hour to see it.
