What a marvellous piece of nature this is.
We went there twice. On our first visit, we took line A and explored the national park all the way to the temple. Tianmen temple may be a long walk, but it's certainly a beautiful one, and the temple itself is so peaceful.
The glass bridges are all paid individually. On our way down, we took the escalators through the mountain. Oh boy! that was some great engineering!
Unfortunately, the weather that day was too bad. We couldn't see the cave at all due to the mist and heavy rain, so we had to rush ourselves out.
On our second visit, we took line B, the skies were clear and we got the cable car to ourselves. We saw the cave, the stairway and also stayed back for the light show. It was totally worth it!

Although there was so much fog it was a magnificent experience.
Take the climb in the very high and very long cable car..... climb the 999 steps to this immense "door" in the mountain.... walk the glass walkway..... what to add???
The views, the landscapes, the picturesque nature of this place.... a huge emotion.

We went up unfortunately on a gloomy day and you can not see absolutely nothing of the panorama ..chenera almost surreal all immersed in fog .. it was cool to be wrapped in a white blanket while climbing in the cable car ..
It is a shame, however, that it completely ruined the “hole” that you could not see, as well as the view from the glass walkways.
Maybe it would have been nicer here than at Zhangjiajie N P...
When you do the, ticket you have to choose which way to go around .. if you climb with the long cable car then you can do the whole walk around the two sides of the mountain. Glass corridors are an extra, you can make them like jumping them. A metaystrada between the two routes c is a beautiful temple. Then there would be an even higher area in between, I think with another cable car, but we didn't go..
Then on the left of where you come from the long cable car there are the escalators that first lead right under the hole, from here you can either do the 999 steps down or take another set of escalators..

Tehe view is magnificent. However, if you have knee pain, it's going to be hell. Going up and down so many stairs can be hard on the knees. That day, I walked more than 10,000 steps. Quite a workout.

Our tour guide bought the tickets for cable car and escalators. The waiting area has a big and lovely sandstone painting.
It was raining and misty when we reached part of the top, but we were lucky to see the sights of the foggy mountain like a chinese painting. We took the cable car, escalators, went through the cave, walked on the glass walkways and pass by the charming scenery of the forest. There are a few stalls selling food and drinks. Once we arrived at the base, we can see the famous arch of Heaven's Gate but was not clear due to the rain and fog.
We came out to the other entrance where the venue of the Tianmen Fox Fairy Show is and we went that very night.

Beautiful place! Took the longest cable car from town up to the mountain. It was misty on top but I didn’t mind as it was a different vibe (in a good way). Interesting to be standing under the huge hole, and walking down the 999 steps was rather interesting.

There are two main tickets lines A & C, Line A takes you directly from the Cable way station in Zhangjiajie to the top of the mountain (And return), for Line C (which we had taken) you first take a Bus shuttle from the downtown Cable way station which takes you to the base of Tianmenshan and its from there you take the cable cart up to the base of Heavens Door, you then need to walk up the stairway or pay extra for the elevator up to the cave opening than take further 5 sets of escalators to reach the very top of the mountain.
If you're on a tight schedule, don't intend to walk much or traveling with elderly, I highly recommend buying Line A tickets. But unlike Line C you don't get to see Heavens Door unless you personally make yourself down from the top. We also tried waiting for the light show but we didn't do enough research regarding this to our knowledge the lights turn on after 7-7.30pm but the park closes before and we waited till 6.30pm.
Lots of restaurants at the top and all prices decently, the great thing was that it can be fully completed in 6 hours by longer route Line C. Highly recommended.

Hi, when and how long will the cable car maintained in this December to January? Is the duration fixed?
If it is under maintenance, can we a tourist visit the mountain?
Skrevet 28. oktober 2019
I am afraid I don't know the answer. Please contact some relevant agent.

Hi, is it possible to take the cable car both up and down? I’d probably get sick if I take that bus down. Thanks!
Skrevet 23. oktober 2019
We are just back from a 10 days trip to Very Beautiful Hokkaido. Yes, you could take the return via a cable car from Tianmen Mountain - but you probably need to take a reverse route / back track to get back to the cable car station. Remember, the cable car station is not here, but the other side of the mountain. Book your tickets in advance from the starting point. It may be troublesome & very tiring to backtrack, if you already walk the 999 steps down Tianmen Mountain, now its another 999 steps up the very steep mountain, unless again, you booked the lifts & rides all at the same time. We in our 60's could not manage these climbs, let alone some members in the late 70's. But to take in the views, stopping for photography, up close with the waterfalls & the faces of the tourist who managed these challenging climbs, the tendency of tiredness were all forgotten., when victory of achievement of some sort - to reaching the top of the climb. Enjoy but remember check very carefully & book in advance.

I will be visiting Tianmen mountain during morning time - taking the cable car up and escalator down. Which loop on the top do you recommend doing first: EAST or WEST? What's the difference - Is one more scenic than the other?

If I have limited time, would you recommend visiting the Tianmen mountain in Zhangjiajie OR the Avatar mountains in Wulingyuan area? Which is more spectacular?
Skrevet 22. juli 2019
I recommend going to the Avatar mountains first and then the Tianmen Mountains.

Skrevet 15. mai 2019
Where does the day tour start from? How long does it take?
Skrevet 20. april 2019
We took the cable car up ,about 30 minutes once you get into the car. As for how long does it take to walk around depends on the crowds. Use the escalator both ways. Save your knees, going up the stairs is a two edged sword.
Skrevet 17. august 2019
How easy is it to get a taxi here and back
Skrevet 12. april 2019
Try to go with a group. As this is a very popular tourist attraction, a taxi might prove expensive . People charge more when they know you have limited to no choice.
