This area is a fabulous walk through history. Being able to go inside and view historic buildings as they were in the day was so interesting. The gardens were a delight and very well kept. Well worth the time checking out this fascinating area.

Great experience. We found it so fascinating to see how people lived years ago and how hard they worked. We couldn’t believe how small the houses were and how the families lived there. Just loved looking through the herb garden and all the old things of the past.
Do yourself a favour and go and have a look. Allow yourself time to read all the plaques.

An easy walk to explore pioneer times of Penola. You can visit Sharam Cottage which is extraordinary to understand was home to 15 children!
Located next to the Mary McKillop centre, I suggest you visit together.

The historic buildings in this lane are very authentic. They are well preserved and well worth a look. There is adequate information available regarding the origins of the houses and their original inhabitants. Well worth a look.

What a relief that some pieces of history are retained.
It's a wonderful stroll around the 4 houses on display. You can enter 3of them Be sure to read all the information boards - there's a lot to find out about the area, and all interesting.
You can buy plants behind Sharma's Cottage. It has an Honesty Box- please do be honest, as the cottages are free to visit. We can't bring plants back to Victoria, but still popped a few $$$ in the box.
This is a great place to stop and see.

When visiting Petticoat Lane in Penola you are immediately transported back to the Colonial times. The preservation of these dwellings to the standard presented is not only a testament to the locals efforts but educational to the many people that visit the town.

Maybe it’s just us but we thought the signposting for this was pretty poor and almost gave up. Luckily, we didn’t and it was worth the effort to find it. There is a group of houses in this street of historic interest detailing the life and times of the people who lived there. A real window into the past of the pioneering life with real homes of real people rather than recreations. An eye opener for anyone who thinks every child must have their own bedroom are the Sharam’s Cottages with two bedrooms for 15 children!! Just be careful not to intrude into any of the current homes of people living in the street!!
