Easy path to good view of the falls. As it was raining slightly, we did not try the steep stairs down to the base of the falls.

We were in the area on 2/22/2020 and stopped for a short visit to the falls. We parked and took the half mile, up hill walk to view the falls which, of course, are spectacular. Upon our return, I noticed that at several vacant parking spaces, there appeared to be evidence of several tinted, broken car windows. As I am not familiar with the area, I suspected that someone had recently broken into a few parked cars in the parking lot. I don't know what else to think of what we saw, but at that point, I was glad to leave the area. Does anyone know of incidents like this?

A favorite among waterfall experts for a family experience. An easy uphill paved walk to a great viewing platform. If you are able take the stairs to the lower platform. it is worth the extra effort. You can take your time on the way back up.

Good any time of the year but best in the fall colors. plenty of parking. Be certain to make your money contribution. The walk up is not to bad. If you are able, wlak down to the lower viewing level.

Stopped here while driving through the area and oh my! It is an beautiful and easy 1/2 mile walk on a paved trail to the falls from the parking lot. It’s 154 steps down to the observation deck. It is a beautiful sight to see. There is plenty of parking and restrooms available as well, it’s worth the drive to see this amazing place.

Self pay National Forest site. Easy incline paved walkway to a great vantage point above the falls for great viewing. There are steps (154 if my memory holds true) with hand rails to get to the bottom viewing station. Definitely worth the effort.

The falls were a bit difficult to see due to low clouds so we walked down the stairs to the lower level where we got a beautiful view. A few stairs, but we'll worth the effort. You need three dollars cash for self paid parking.

You park, pay a $3 fee and take a very brief 1/2 mile stroll up a paved path. From there you can see the falls, but for a better view you take a flight of 154 wooden stairs down to a better observation deck. From there you get a better appreciation of the falls. For the real hikers, there is a trail off the deck that you can take to a number of locations (none near) on some tight, slick trails.

I was hoping someone could tell me how tough the walk is to the upper viewing spot. I have 2 bad knees and it says it’s paved, is it fairly level? Or will it be a Celebrex day for me? Thanks so much.

It's not a short walk, but it's probably doable for you at a slow pace without too much difficulty. The incline is very slight on the way there, and the path is paved and in very good shape. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that I don't believe there are benches along the way upon which to rest.

Hi, is there a ranger station on site to pay the parking fee if you arrive early or is it a self pay system? Is it typically crowded for sunrise or sunset? Thanks!

No Ranger station. Self Pay. We were there mid day so I can not address what sunrise and sunset would be like.

USDA Forest Service still lists Whitewater Falls as closed. Is it open or did you walk around the barricade to an area not normally open to the public?

Is the waterfall falls park closed because of fire damage?
LKNCHOWHOUND
Cornelius, NC9 831 bidrag
There is a gate across the road with a sign closed to fire damage to the stairs.
Asked the attendant at the Gorges Park Center and she said it had been closed since last November. Small fire burned to stairs and observation deck.
Park Service also has a site with status and according to it, they don't know when it will reopen
My ride planner will not locate it. What is the ADDRESS of (upper) Whitewater Falls?

Oops, I missed seeing your question till tonight. I am not sure of the exact address, but perhaps these directions will help (depending on your starting point). From Brevard, NC, head west on Hiway 64, (toward Lake Toxaway and Highlands). You will actually pass Lake Toxaway on your way. At Sapphire, turn left on NC 281 and go south about eight miles to the Whitewater Falls entrance, on your left. (If you're coming from the west on 64, the turn onto 281 will be on your right.) I hope this is helpful. (There's also a website called RomanticAsheville which has information on other waterfalls.)
Are dogs allowed? Can they walk the steps?
Walter R
Sapphire, NC5 bidrag
Yes they are however to the bottom view area it is 152 steps. Down and up. That is a lot of steps for a dogs hips.
