The Church and the entire Moravian area is definitely work a visit. Lots to see and even a bakery to tempt your diet. And take time to stroll through the cemetery located nearby.

This place is a beautiful sight to see in old Salem. Take the time to walk around to see this church. Beautiful to see inside if you have time.

Friends of mine are members of the Moravian Church and I"ve been to baptisms and a funeral - both of which were very moving and beautiful.
Take the opportunity when you visit to walk through the God's Acre where each person is buried according to their gender and when they passed - no privilege or distinction - very peaceful and beautiful.

If you’ve visited and toured Old Salem and learned its unique history, you will especially enjoy seeing the interior of Home Moravian Church. It is open daily with docents to explain more about the worship and teachings of this earliest Protestant denomination. A special treat is attending one of the several Christmas Eve Love Feasts held at Home Moravian Church. Music, hot coffee and a Love Feast bun (a spiced potato roll) along with the story from Luke's Gospel are featured. Everyone also receives a lighted handmade beeswax candle to hold while singing “Silent Night” in the darkened church. A lovely way for families to remind their children of “the reason for the season.”

We had difficulty finding out what the Moravians were all about until we visited the home church h. Here, a very knowledgable gentleman was able to tell us the background of the movement and its history and answered our many questions admirably.

I do not live in Winston Salem now but during the years that I did, Home Church was a sanctuary of quiet beauty. Now whenever I have the time, I walk through Old Salem and stop in at the church for a touch of what a community can be

We moved here from MN 12 years ago. After several years of looking, we found the Home Moravian Church in Old Salem. We attended many Christmas Services before we found a service that played all your old favorites (the songs you memorized as a child and stood on the steps of the church and sang for your parents).
CHRISTMAS EVE - The Christmas Eve service is magical! You must arrive early or you will not get a place to sit up close! There is more than one service so be sure to pick the service that fits the age of your children. At this service, you will hear the songs you love the most. All the songs you know by heart and have sung your entire life are played. Plus, the choir does NOT sing all the great songs, we actually get to sing the great songs too (this is my favorite part - I LOVE to hear the voices of my family as they sing Silent Night)! About the middle of the service, they pause and serve authentic Moravian coffee and bread. Then, right before we ALL SING Silent Night, they pass out candles and we light our candles together. They turn the lights way down so the entire Church is filled with the soft glow of candle light and we all sing Silent Night together! It is absolutely magical! I just cannot say enough about how perfect this service is if you LOVE an old fashioned Christmas Eve service!!!
EASTER - Easter is an experience! You arrive long before the sun rises! You gather with hundreds, and I mean hundreds (maybe over a thousand!!) of people on the street outside the Church. You enjoy a short introduction service and some music, then you walk to the Cemetery. Once at the Cemetery, you gather in a moving service about resurrection! It is a very powerful service! You have to experience it to really understand how powerful the service is.
EASTER NOTE: Dress in layers and come prepared for the weather. You will be standing outside on the cobblestone streets of Old Salem and walking the streets and then standing on the walkways in the cemetery. You will be standing the entire time - maybe 1.5 hours. Also, you begin before the sun rises. As the sun rises, the wind will pick up and the morning breeze will blow. That breeze can be chilly. Dress in layers!

Home Moravian Church is an original part of the Old Salem settlement. Morning worship and Sunday School still are held here. You will feel that you have been transported in time, but still feel the Holy Spirit as you worship.

Had a very nice introduction to the Moravian religion and it’s history. This church is worth visiting and hopefully one of the members will be there to give you the background

I can not find an address for the Church? If we find the church we would like to take a tour, do you know when they offer tours and the cost. Thanks

The church is located in Old Salem, at 529 S. Church St.
Winston-Salem, NC 27101. When you arrive in Old Salem you will want to park and visit the entire area- it isn't very large and you won't get lost on foot. Be sure to visit God's Acre cemetery as well and walk around the campus of Salem Academy/College. If you are planning to visit Winston Salem please be aware that Business 40 in that area will be closed for approximately two years for renovations. If you go to Home Moravian Church website they have a link for alternate directions. As far as guided tours, I am not sure they schedule those. Just go in and ask someone at the office and they will probably let you look around. You can definitely book a tour of the Old Salem settlement. Some attractions require tickets for entrance but you can walk around the area without a ticket. You do not have to purchase in advance and you will get a feel for what you want to do when you get there. Lunch at Salem Tavern is always good. Their traditional Moravian chicken pie is a must. Have fun!
