Fabulous house and grounds -- pity the house wasn't open.
I recommend the 1:00 talk on the terrace
Worth a walk to the chapel and burial ground.

English countryside splendour
okt. 2021 • Familie
A visit to the National Trust Cliveden is well worth the entrance fee, we visited on a Sunday and it was busy. Plenty of walks, big steps to get to the boathouse, take the free tour if available to learn the history and how it ended up in NT control. Chapel when open is rich opulence.

Majority aof places not reopening till next year
aug. 2021 • Par
Well joined the national Trust a couple of months ago, hoping to go a number of places I wished I'd checked before majority of the attractions I wanted to visit are closed and are not open until next year when my membership runs out pointless joing so I'm cancelling I'm afraid.

One of my favourite places
okt. 2021 • Familie
I’ve been here twice now. The second time I invited my parents, as I was so amazed last time. They were equally as amazed! Everything here is beautiful and so well kept. There is a lot to see and do, so you can make a great day of it. I like the fact you can go for a long walk, which you don’t always find with national trust sites.
It’s an hour drive for us, but if I had the time I would drive here once a week, it’s that perfect.
We ate lunch at the cafe too. The food was lovely. I find NT trust cafes on the pricey everywhere you go (but I understand why) here’s no different. If I did have to critique the NT site it would be that due to the sheer size of the site and it’s popularity it could definitely do with another cafe or more coffee/cake kiosks. There are however plentiful picnic benches around in lovely settings.

Beautiful gardens
sep. 2021
We spent a lovely sunny September day at National Trust Clivedon. There is so much to see, some of it quite hidden so make sure that you get a map from the information kiosk in the car park.

We spoke to the lady in the information kiosk about boat trips. She advised us to just walk down to the River. Be warned, there are a LOT of steps down to the River Thames from Clivedon! We walked down to the river only to be told that the next boat trip was fully booked. There were vacancies on the 1o/c trip however so we booked and paid (£11.50pp). So pre-book a boat trip online and make your life easier!

You pass the Fountain of Love between the car park and Clivedon house (which is only open to residents currently). The Cockerell Pavillion is an attractive clock tower (the hotel spa is in here).

Back to the amazing gardens on the Clivedon Estate! The Parterre is stunning with vibrant colours viewed from the terrace or close up. The stunning Long Garden takes your breath away with colourful seasonal beds and clever topiary birds and sculptures. The rose garden was a little past it’s best but still pretty and smelt wonderful. The oriental Water Garden again was a bit late in the season but there were a few water lilies left. It was a lush and green area. The maze is also here and the Dolls House (which sounded exciting but was just a cafe that is closed next to the children’s play area).

The little chapel is situated at the edge of the Parterre overlooking the River Thames and is now a mausoleum for members of the Astor family. Near the chapel is the memorial garden (with tricky steps down into it) which is really well kept and tucked away. It is quite moving. We could not visit the tortoise fountain as there was tree cutting in progress and access denied. There is lots more to see and woodland walks. The Amphitheatre was a disappointment, just a circle of grass! The signs could be better I feel.

We really enjoyed our day. We took a picnic and just had a hot drink in the Orangery cafe. We walked for miles! It was worth the £15 each entrance fee.
There is a shop and small garden centre at the car park and also an ice cream stall.

FANTASTIC GROUNDS BUT POOR CATERING FACILITIES
sep. 2021
It is some years since I last visited Cliveden and had forgotten how extensive the grounds are. The gardens were still in full colour and we enjoyed strolling around then later walked down to the river, watching the pleasure craft going up and down the Thames.

The unfortunate reason I feel unable to give the day a full 5* rating is the diabolical shambles in the cafe area. What on earth possessed the National Trust to organise it in such a way that I had to queue up for 35 minutes for a very average quiche and salad? Yes, it was a sunny day but half the food had sold out by 1 pm and the process was that once you had placed your order, you shuffled along to a table (absolutely no social distancing possible, even for the most nervous of characters) and waited for your hot drink and food to be brought out from the kitchen.

Had we realised just how chaotic the catering was going to be, we would have stopped off to buy some sandwiches and have a picnic in the grounds. We had been on holiday and were heading home after our visit but a diversion into a local supermarket would have been a far better idea - and no doubt less expensive too.

Take a picnic and stay all day!
aug. 2021 • Par
Wish we’d taken a picnic and stayed all day! Whilst we couldn’t go in the hotel / house, the gardens were plenty to keep us busy for a few hours. Very informative talk from John on the South Terrace. Cafe had loads of options for lunch and it never felt too busy.
