Lovely walks through the woods and some spectacular views. Would have been much improved if there were maps of the area as I got lost a few times.
Can’t call this place dog friendly as there are no dog waste bins. Completely ridiculous and would probably put me off going again with my 2 big dogs.
The cafe (Wizard?) is also not dog friendly with the surly waitress very reluctant to fetch my order all of 10 yards to my table (I would have struggled carrying it with the dogs), she said they’d shout when it was ready through their little tannoy system 🙄.

Beautiful area lots of wonderful walks and plenty of cafes and restaurants .we visited tge edge where you can see all over the Cheshire plains I do think there should be s map at the top that explains the area more because we followed a dirt track road through the woods to pass by the beautiful rock formations and a well ,which were very interesting but we would have missed them only for a couple explaining where they had been in passing .. tiny steps led us down to a road which took us to a little national Trust area where there was a great walk to take your dogs .we stopped at the bulls head pub and was well greeted by smiling faces and a warm welcome which was needed after our long walk ..this area needs more than one day to explore it really is worth a visit .

another place spoilt after falling into the ever grasping hands of the national trust . Have been visiting this place since childhood but havn't been for a while . Arrived to discover the lovely old cafe once full of rustic charm was now N.T. previously there was a car park for it for those who just wanted to pop in for a coffee . This was padlocked shut in order to force you to use the car park for those visiting to walk the woods .
Why ? because the charge here is a minimum of £4.00 for 3 hours even if you just want to use the cafe for half an hour . So you pay your £4.00 for the privilege of buying coffee and cake priced far higher than you find in John Lewis store cafe .
As usual the oh so right on woke policies of the trust means that the staff are all under the age of them having to be paid the full minimum wage other than the manageress . Plenty of older people being thrown on the scrap heap in todays ageist society would benefit from these kind of jobs but despite their virtue signalling the trust appear to operate such an ageist agenda only using older staff in the role of unpaid volunteers whilst at the same time exploiting the young .
We hadn't intended to walk our dog here as we were taking her to a trail we know and prefer further along heading towards congleton . However we gave her the opportunity of a toilet break which she as it happened needed . We bagged up and looked around for the dog bins which where once there but were noticing people coming back to their cars carrying theirs with them . We stopped one such couple who told us there now isn't a single one on the whole heritage site !
The cafe used to be a lovely old place full of character and charm complete with an original ancient old smokey open fire where you could grab a breakfast bacon butty like Mum used to make . If you wanted to walk before you partook of it you'd pop in and explain you were parked on their free car park but were coming back for breakfast and get a " sure no problem " now its another squeeze every penny and provide as little as possible National Trust site .

Lovely forest walk for the two of us and our cocker spaniel. The area seems extensive but wasn’t well signposted and despite using GPS we happened upon it largely by accident. How lucky for us. We walked for a couple of hours, taking the forest trail which was as promised up and down and a bit muddy but so worth it. The Wizard’s Tearoom was a lovely place which made the trip especially enjoyable. A place you callus return to again and again.

I’d like to go up to the top today but am with someone who can’t really do ‘uphill’ walking. The NT says it’s an ‘easy’ walk but how easy actually is it?

Hi. This is gradual incline, with some steeper areas. Would guess that you would need to base your decision on how much stress your friend would be under. Is it physical or breathing difficulties? Not good for wheelchairs.

Hi,
I am wondering how long this walk will take?
Also, where is the best starting point as I am not familiar with the area?
Thank you

Park in the National Trust car park. It can get full on a nice day at the weekend.
There are various lengths of walk but the one we do most often usually takes 45 minutes

The national trust website directs people to get a bus from point 1 to 2 on the map, is this necessary or is there another way of completing the walk without getting a bus.

I am unsure what the two points are from and to. We just walked the path from car park to the edge. It’s not far. There are a few walks but not more than a few miles

How much is the car parking for non-NT members?

There's loads of parking bays on the road up to there so you don't have to pay at them.. Head through Alderney edge then turn left before the premier inn up the hill and then when you reach the enter acne loads of places on the left.. Hope this helps!?
