Its best to keep off the busy main roads and stick to the scenic back streets, and if you do its a pretty village.
There's lots of options from strolling gently around the village and poking in the cafes, pubs or odd shop, or you can stroll to Peak Cavern or take the walk up to the castle. Or you can walk into the very scenic Cave Dale which starts right in the village, or walk 10 minutes to Speedwell Cavern and Winnats Pass. You can do longer walks from Castleton too (like the Mam Tor Ridge or even Kinder Scout).
Lots to do without needing the car or transport.

Unbelievably scenic, literally a chocolate box town! We were so impressed with Castleton and will definitely be back again!

A lovely village in the heart of the Peak District. We followed a Geocache trail which took us to five different locations. It was a great way of seeing things we would normally have missed.

We've popped here a few times and have always had a nice little walk around the village. Plenty of parking when we visited, although i can imagine the car parks being full during peak season times, Plenty of places to get food and drink. Shops are ok, and the staff have been helpful in the ones we have been into. Plenty of walks from here too. All depends how far you want to walk and whether you want flat paths or go into the hills for some rambling.

A short walk, just over a mile around the village but lots of views and many coffee shops, bars etc along the way should you need a break.

Excellent for families... really beautiful village to visit, have a nice meal and relax.
I do recommend the Rose Cottage for your meal. (Specially their Tea Garden)

On the day we didn't climb we walked from Hope to Castleton and all its many attractions including Peak Cavern. We had been there before so not this time. Lovely little shops and food outlets and very popular with tourists. The pubs welcome muddy boots and dogs!

Beautiful place. But rude residents. We made an honest mistake of not seeing a sign that limited number of people in a shop (it wasn't on the door but just to the side). Person was so horrible and scathing that I actually wanted to leave the place immediately. We decided not to and had a lovely walk up towards Mam Tor.
So great place, but disgusting residents - which was amazing since we had recently come out of lockdown. I thought they would want the cash influx.

Beautiful picturesque little village. We come here every year to see the Christmas trees lit up. The best night to go is when they first turn the lights on as there is a lot more going on and the shops stay open later etc. We went on another night that was very quiet and everything was closed as we went late but still loved half an hour walking round and taking some photos. Great place to visit in general with a few interesting shops, caves nearby, cheap parking, visitor centre, toilets and lots of pubs.

You can do the Castletown Walk. At the start is car park. Alternatively use that as a base to explore the area.

Try walking up to the caves at the start of Winnard Pass. Not too strenuous.
Mam For far too windy.
Try going up to the castle.

Hi can you ytell mee if the walk from thevinformation to castleton to see the sights and Christmas decorations is possible for a poorly hip patient. I presume there is adequatecparking at the centre .please it really would help to get this information

There is a bit of parking. Given the ups & down I would suggest it might be a struggle. But with plenty of stops it could be managed.
Is there any walks in the area that would be manageable with a pushchair? Thanks!

The whole village is quite manageable by pushchair if you stick to the main paths
