Leeches attacked us within 10 mins of our bush walk like out of a horror movie! It had rained the day before but this was next level!! We are regular bush walkers so usually it takes a fair bit to bother us but we simply couldn’t go on, they were coming out of everyone’s shoes like meat out of a mincer. It was disgusting. Our kids were terrified and one had a panic attack so unfortunately we had to drive home. If you have a family and want to camp and walk, only do so in very dry weather. We also saw a red belly snake along the bush wall.

Spectacular swimming hole. Great walks and beautiful wildlife. We saw hundreds of blur tiger butterflies, catfish and green tree frogs.

Was a lovely morning walk with the kids to the waterfalls after over eating at Kenilworth backery :), lots of people on the track, easy walk down and then back up.

Decided to try and walk off a 1kg doughnut, this did the trick. Unfortunately we did not have a 4x4 with high ground clearance so we had to trek about a mile to get to Booloumba Creek, we found out later that there is another access road that would get you closer. Our walk was on a well established 4x4 track crossing creeks a few times children (7 and 9) and I (on crutcges) managed it with ease. Although a lot of trails were closed due to the fire risk, this is a place I would definitely return to to explore more.

If you haven't been....GO!! This place is amazing, Child friendly and a fairly easy walk. The pools are refreshing and fresh. Take a picnic lunch to have when you return in the picnic area. If you love taking photos, this place has it all!!

A short drive from Brisbane and a great place to escape the summer heat. Pack a picnic lunch and easily laze the day away.

Will reuire high clearance 4x4. 3 river crossings to day area. Not so easy when normal cars park in road before crossing leaves very little room to get past. Some drivers dont slow down or move over but it is mostly well attended. The river looked good. Was swimming hole walking tracks picnic areas. Will have to come back to walk to falls. Very surprised at how good it was. Well worth a visit. Caming available need to pre book. First 2 camps i believe are just for tent but there is one for camper trailers further around. Wl come back soon.

Within easy day trip reach of Brisbane, and only 10 minutes south of the interesting country town of Kenilworth, Conondale NP is a great place to visit.
It is sealed road access until about one km from the park where two crossings of Booloumba Creek are required to access the day use area some 700-800 m into the park. Probably requires 4WD: we were there for four nights camping and went in and out a few times without any problems in an AWD with the water depth bring about 200mm on a good, solid Boulder bed that is well maintained by the Park Rangers.
There are four camping areas spread over a couple of km, three suited to walk-in tent based camping adjacent to Booloumba Creek and one in a well grassed area a little back from the creek good for camper trailers and off-road vans.
We had a camper trailer and the campground was pleasant with a small but clean toilet block (flush toilets), fire pits and non-potable water taps. Plenty of bird life and the occasional goanna ((or three).
There are some good but challenging walks. One up to the fire tower on Mt Allen (6-7 km each way) and one parallel to Booloumba Creek heading upstream to the picturesque Artiste Cascades and beyond. Both walks form part of the multi-day 55km Conondale Range Great Walk suited to the hardier and more adventurous types.
You can drive a further 9km beyond the campgrounds to gain access to the Booloumba Falls as well.
Permits are required for overnight campers which are obtained online: day visitor access is free.
Being only 10-15 minutes from Kenilworth, there are plenty of other things to see and do, as well as dining options being available (and good coffee)
A good part of SE Queensland to explore.

Hi,
Thanks for the review. We're planning on camping in the next month or so and only have a 2WD car. Which camp grounds did you stay at? Do you think we will have trouble accessing camping area 4? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
We only went up for the day.
It hadn't rained for weeks so the creeks were passable by our 2WD
2 creeks.
First one had to go to the far right and the second far left.
Wouldn't have made it thro the middle.
If you intend to camp check the weather for the few days you will be there as if it rains you will be stuck in the park without a 4WD.
The swimming holes were pretty low at each one but a nice dip without walking for ages, couple of minutes park and swim.

With respect to the various walks, it would e nice to know the degree of difficulty.

We did a waterfall walk which was three Km there and back with ease. Could do the walk in thongs but safer at the site in joggers as you can climb and walk over the rocks and water.
